Tonight is the college football national championship between Clemson and Alabama. I’m gonna keep this really simple and get right to the point – the players are insane if they play this game. Think about it. Right now they have the NCAA by the balls if they want to. All they have to do is get together and agree that they’re not playing unless everyone’s getting paid for this. Because no matter what happens tonight, both schools make $6 million. Clemson coach Dabo Sweeney is making over $3 million this year, and Bama coach Nick Saban is making $7 million. Oh yea, and the strength and conditioning coach at Bama is making $600,000. Literally everyone is making bank except for the players.

So is they all got together and refused to play, the NCAA would have no choice but to give them a piece of the pie. There’s millions and millions of dollars on the line. The players have all the power right now and they’re insane if they don’t use it.

But of course we all know that ain’t gonna happen. They’ll continue to play and make money for someone else, and 5-10% of them will play in the NFL. The rest will have to use their college “degrees,” which they more than likely didn’t earn since they were put into easy classes and given tutors to make sure they pass. This should get them a nice gig as a cook at Perkins, and they can think back about that time they made all those other people all that money.

Turtleboy isn’t the only one saying this either. Tom Brady’s agent Don Yee says they shouldn’t, and he wrote this whole thing explaining why. And if the guy who guided Tom Brady through Deflategate says they should do it, then they should probably listen. Turtleboy doesn’t agree with his premise that it’s a racial thing – mostly black players making money for mostly white coaches and college executives. After all, many of these athletes are being given an opportunity that their peers who don’t have their physical talents would never receive. Plus, the players don’t have a gun to their head and they don’t have to accept these scholarships and play for free.

But it doesn’t change the fact that right now they have more power than they ever will for the rest of their lives.

Fuck Alabama. Go Clemson.

They would gain nothing, except lowering their draft stock. It could possibly improve things for future players, but not them. And I wonder why an agent would want players to get paid..weak take tb

No pay for college athletes. If anything, lower the costs for the entire “General” student population with the revenues the College brings in from sports.

For the 90-95% that aren’t getting into the NFL, they are getting a free 4 year education which is worth at least $100K to $150K. If they choose to take easy courses or useless majors because they are focusing on sports exclusively, then too bad. These players have been coddled their whole lives, the sooner they realize the odds of getting into professional sports, the better.

Then they can get a non-skilled low paying job ….. or be a burden on society.
