Turtleboy has been kind of hard on Dianne Williamson lately because of our dispute about fake Facebook pages making outrageous posts. Long storyBut the dust has settled and we wanna give credit where credit is due. Dianne wrote this fantastic column the other day which deserves credit. It’s the story of Arthur “Arty” Parent, a 65 year old man that died alone in Worcester a few months ago. Dianne was the only one at his funeral that wasn’t working. Basically in a nutshell, the guy was a miserable old man who burned every bridge possible with his kids, siblings, and parents. She interviews a couple of the family members, including his son who he abandoned at a young age.

I thought the column was riveting and wanted to give Dianne her due credit. What I like about Dianne is that she has a tendency to write these columns that make you think. You might not always agree with her, but if she’s making you think critically then she’s doing her job as a columnist. What I liked about this column was it made you think about how some people, through a series of selfish, and poor life decisions, can go such separate ways. Was Arty Parent a scumbag and a deadbeat dad? Absolutely. But at one point he was an innocent child, and somewhere along the line he decided to only care about himself. As a result he died alone in his apartment with no friends or family, and no one showed up for his funeral because they didn’t even know about it.

Turtleboy finds that interesting.

Her coworker Clive McFarlane on other hand, is only capable of writing about race, and he does it in the most boring way possible.  He tries to be too smart and use words that no normal person uses. More importantly, he never, ever finds stories like this that challenge you. But for whatever reason Karen Webber and company have let Clive put his trash out week after week while Dianne has been censored. This is why the Telegram and Gazette is losing hundreds of subscribers per year.

Anyway, there has been nothing but angry comments on the column itself, which is why we wanted to give her credit. Because if we’re gonna shit on you when you do things we don’t agree with, it would be hypocritical for us not to defend you when you do something we enjoy. Here’s some of the commentary:

Look, I get that this is a sensitive issue, but if you read the column it’s clear as day that she’s not trying to make you empathize with Arty Parent. To me the column emphasized how short life is, and how important it is to not to take your family for granted. Because at the end of the day, they’re all you got. Arty Parent disrespected his family his entire life and as a direct result of this, no one loved him. And that’s just shitty. To me this column didn’t “give him the spotlight,” or try to “make us feel bad for this guy.” Because I don’t feel bad for Arty Parent. All it did was tell a story, and the moral of this particular story is that if you’re a scumbag and you don’t take care of your kids, then no one is gonna come to your funeral.

Good stuff Dianne. We are friends again.

Make me think? Im thinking about having a party because there is one less worthless pos in Worcester that my hard earned tax dollars will no longer support. Based on all I read I kinda wish he shed his mortal coil sooner. Hes a deadbeat dad, they are a dime a dozen, and the fact that Diane ran this story and clearly upset the family who through no fault of their own are related to this sack of shit angers me greatly so no… this craptastic column that TB thinks is reason to give Diane YET ANOTHER reprieve is just another reason not to support Diane, the T&G, and maybe refer TB to a psychiatrist to get his head examined.

Why are you so far up Diane’s ass btw? Seems like no matter how bad she fucks up she worms her way back to your good graces… and through columns like this? Dafuq is wrong with you?

Ill tell what this article made me critically think of… My lawyer and my last will and testament because I am making damn sure that when I die my obituary does not run in this shitass rag. My hatred for the T&G is so great that even in the afterlife I refuse to give these pig fuckers a single quarter, dime, or one red cent.

    Disagree TB.

Dianne is well known for only telling one side of the story – particularly when the other side has facts that pretty much reveal the bias and slant she is trying to project. Like the teen girl sexter from Auburn story. Lot more to that story too. Just didn’t fit Dianne’s agenda.

I’m on the fence with Dianne Williamson. She will come out with a column brilliantly written and spot on topic and two weeks later lay an egg. It’s difficult to judge her politically which is probably one of her strengths.

However, in an attempt to appease everyone on both sides of the political spectrum is at best a total waste of time and at worst unreliable and without journalistic credibility in my insignificant opinion.

I do not like Clive McFarlane at all but at least he is continuously biased and racist so you know what you are going to get with that asshole.

Sounds like Arty got JUST what he deserved ……. From what I read he was a selfish, mean, arrogant, irresponsible, jerk that abandoned his family & his obligations. There are repercussions for actions.

This played out exactly how it should have. He died alone & miserable. Chaulk one down for Karma

Wow the apple doesnt fall far from his fathers tree, eh?

You know, Arty Parent’s relations were upset with the article because it stirred up feelings; anger, rejection, neglect, broken hope. People will do anything to keep from dealing with and processing their pain, including becoming people like Arty Parent. Of course they are going to be mad at Dianne for making them face what they want to hide from.

I hope that broken family can use the emotions the article stirred up, not to mire themselves deeper into the bitterness and pain that man brought into their lives, but to heal from it.

It can be difficult to be a kind loving person, especially when so many people walk around numbing their pain and fear with anger or in some situations drugs and alcohol.

Bless Dianne and bless Arty Parent’s family. May they find in his passing the healing he denied them in life.

Maybe It was the moral not the subject of the story although you wonder what had happened and did feel sorry for him. Now we know and I don’t feel so sorry. Like his niece said, “you reap what you sow”.

Speaking of knowing, I was with some pals at the worcester home show this weekend and we had stopped next to the T&G booth. and I overhear part of this conversation, “so, why would you cancel your subscription?”, first you have Spanky McFarlane writing and columns and charge subscribers for inaudible” and you don’t tell them you>

I burst out in chuckle; TurtleBoy Strikes Again… Oh the dirty look i got.
