So this article in the Telegram today honoring former Worcester State professor Joshua Aisiku and his family, elicited an email from a turtle rider. He received a key to the city from Mayor Joe Petty, because Joe Petty will literally give anyone who sounds diverse or ethnic a key to the city so he can pretend to embrace diversity. Of course we know that diversity applies to everything except for Jumpin Joe’s neighborhood, friends, and supporters. Here’s a small excerpt:

The patriarch of the family, Joshua Unuigboje Aisiku, retired from WSU in 2009 and accepted a position as founding president of a new private university, Chrisland Millennium University in Nigeria. Worcester’s Mayor Joseph M. Petty handed each family member a key to the city and thanked them for everything they’ve done.

Here’s the email we received this morning about it:

Dear Turtleboy,

I have been a teacher for 16 years in the Worcester Public Schools. In the linked article you will see that a man named Joshua Aisiku is being heralded by State Senator Harriet Chandler and the Mayor for all the work he has done for the community.

Don’t be fooled though. Dr. Aisiku is the worst teacher I’ve ever had. I’m sure other teachers can attest to this, since you are required to take his classes at Worcester State if you pursue your mandated post-baccalaureate program there. If you took classes there before 2010, then chances are you sat in one of his classes.

The first time I had him as a teacher he came into class wearing tribal gear. Then he started talking and it was impossible to understand a word he was saying because his accent was indiscernible. Other times he just didn’t show up for class. I’d estimate that 25% of the time the class gave up and left after he didn’t show up for the first half an hour. One time he came an hour late but no one was there. He took points off of everyone’s grade for being absent from class.

Teachers are extremely busy as it is. When I was in his class for the first time I had 125 students, including over 20 who were on individual ed plans. This meant that I basically had no life as I was constantly up to my ears in a never ending sea of paperwork, planning, and correcting. Did I mention I have a family that needs me during the three hour classes?

So when you take these classes, the professors generally take it easy on you because they know that you have a million other things going on and we’re all adults. They let you know what the requirements are at the beginning as well as when papers and projects are due so you can plan around your busy lifestyle. If you do what is required of you then they give you an A or B, since anything below a B- is considered a failing grade. And since we have to pay nearly $1,000 for each of these classes, it’s really important that we pass. Not only is it expensive and time consuming, it’s also required for licensure.

Dr. Aisiku didn’t understand this. He was unclear and gave you projects that took hours and hours of nonexistent free time to complete. Then when you passed it in he graded you insanely hard and took off points for things he did not tell you that you needed to include. As a result lots of students ended his class with a 78 and would fail the class.

That’s what pissed me off about this guy. He viewed adults as if they were children. I understand holding students to a high standard and I think it’s a great thing. But the guy was teaching us about educational methods and he’s never taught a day in a public school his entire life.

He also was required to sit in on your classroom at work and observe your pedagogical methods. The problem that happened when he observed me was that he had a bad habit of falling asleep and snoring. One time in one of my lower level classes a student who was a constant behavior problem threw a spitball at him while I was writing something on the board. It woke him up and he was startled. He then took points off of my evaluation because he said that I did not have control of my classroom.

Anyway, the whole time I had him in class all I could think was “this guy has a job because a bunch of PC administrators thought that adding diversity would make them better people.” But they hired a man who can’t teach adults, teaching teachers how to teach kids in an American culture that he is clearly unfamiliar with. Just wanted to let you know that this guy is a fraud.

Interesting. After we got this email we looked Joshua Aisiku up on Ratemyprofessors.com. The comments seem to confirm the emailers assertions:

Spends more time on anecdotes than actual teaching. accent is incredibly hard to understand. most learning is obtained from independent reading.

How this guy collects a pay check when the class is self taught is beyond me!

Anyway, we’ve never had any dealings with this guy, so who is Turtleboy to judge? But then again, neither has Joe Petty. He just saw a guy in tribal-ware with an ethnic sounding last name and thought to himself, “this would be another great opportunity for a multicultural photo shoot that I can use to please Jim McGovern. Better give him a key to the city.”

The bottom line is that if one person said this, it could be taken as sour grapes. But when pretty much everyone who’s ever had his class says he sucks, and he worked at a school that continues to employ a convicted criminal (Sonya Conner), then you’d be stupid to assume there is no truth to it.

And I’ll bet that anyone pointing to these reviews will be called racist. And the reviewers are racists. Everyone who disagrees is racist.

You couldn’t get his resume off of Linkedin? Bet that’s an interesting work of fiction.

Unbelievable and disgusting. It’s too bad that these teachers are held hostage to this guy. Otherwise if they could drop that class, you know that no one would be left and Professor numbnuts would show up when he pleases to nobody. I had Profs like that in college. Fucking insane.

The sins committed in the name of “Diversity” will return to haunt us all. Disgusting.
