SourceHow would you feel if Faneuil Hall was renamed? Boston religious leaders gathered on Wednesday at the historic building to condemn the violence in Charlottesville. That is when Kevin Peterson, founder of the New Democracy Coalition, suggested it.

“Here in this very place on this very ground, we see an embarrassment to the community of color in Boston, an embarrassment to white people of good mind and good spirit in Boston because this place is named after a man who engaged in the sale of human flesh and we should be quite frankly embarrassed by that. I’ve called on the mayor in recent months to look into renaming this building,” said Peterson.

“It’s an embarrassment to this city to remain focusing on this place as a place of celebration and as a place of which we should have some civic pride with this name attached to it.”

He proposed that the building is renamed after Crispus Attucks, a black man, who was the first person killed in the Boston Massacre. Boston’s famous Faneuil Hall was donated to the city by Peter Faneuil, a merchant in the area during the 1700s. He both owned and traded slaves.

And so it begins. Who’s up next on the “history that never happened” chopping block? George Washington and Thomas Jefferson owned slaves. They both have monuments in Washington DC. Time to organize a mob and take those dickheads down!!

After that we’ll go after Abe Lincoln. Historians believe that he only emancipated the slaves in 1863 (a year and a half after the Civil War started) because it gave him a military advantage by encouraging slave revolt in the south. He also wanted to pardon confederates after the war was over, even though they supported slavery!!

Franklin Roosevelt is hardly innocent either. Democrats back then relied upon the racist southern states and pandered to them for votes, just as Trump does with the KKK today. What did he do to end segregation? Nothing. Any sort of memorial to FDR must come down too.

And don’t even get me started on Planned Parenthood. They were founded by a racist who who believed that black people should basically be exterminated through eugenics. We chopping those down too, or nah?

And while we’re at it, why stop at statues and buildings? America is named after a European explorer. Why is the land that we live on named after a white supremacist who thought his culture was superior to the natives who inhabited the land already? Shouldn’t we rename it after the Natives who were here first? Or maybe we should just take our white and black asses back to where our ancestors came from. It’s not really our country. If history is immoral we have to pretend like it never happened.

The fact of the matter is that morals change over time. Today we all accept that slavery is a terrible thing. But back in the day they didn’t. They honestly believed that racial superiority was a legitimate, scientific fact. They learned it in schools. They were taught it at home. They saw nothing wrong with. As bonkers as that sounds, most people today would’ve participated in this system if they were born into it. What’s gonna happen 200 years from now? At the rate we’re going EVERYTHING is going to be hate speech by then. There’s gonna be nothing left to dismantle.

Look, I’m all for taking down statues of confederate generals on public land. They belong in museums. Because it’s stupid to pretend that it didn’t happen, but it doesn’t mean it should be celebrated. The confederacy was just a bunch of traitors. They fired first at Fort Sumter so Lincoln had to unleash General Sherman and his thunder rod on them until they begged for mercy. Oh, and they lost. In America we don’t put up statues for losers and traitors. Unless you’re a Colts fan.

The most egregious part about this is that the dude paid for the hall. It was a gift to the people of Boston, free of charge. It’s his for eternity. And quite frankly I would imagine it was an expensive gift too. If they change it I hope he comes back from the dead and bitch slaps the shit out of this stupid pastor who thinks he’s making a difference but is really just making a fool of himself.

Another tax cheating “pastor” trying to rewrite history, kinda like Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin. Two centuries from now historians will look back on this era as to when the totalitarian Democrats tried to destroy America and its freedoms.

if we took down monuments for every person who did something offensive we’d have a very undecorated earth.Humans all have good and bad in them. i do not support slavery. i do not think it should be celebrated. but it should be studied and understood.

keep in mind that in colonial (read; in the times where countries got rich by taking over and enslaving smaller, weaker countries with inferior weapons regardless of race) it was also acceptable to treat for men to arrange marriages without the woman’s consent, beat children and kill homosexuals and anyone who was thought to be a witch.

Is this the same Kevin Peterson who had the restraining orders, rape charges, and child support issues? His bogus nonprofit not being registered got him dropped from one of Menino’s bullshit task forces.

Before Malcolm X took up the civil rights cause he was a pimp, the ultimate modern day slave trader, yet there’s a street in Boston named after him. If the good “pastor” wants to extend his logic, maybe we should look into re naming a street named after a pimp.

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but your Vietnam analogy to TB’s logic is spot on. I think TB must have got beat up by a southerner during Spring break or something. Might explain his liberal views on the Civil War.

PETER FANUEUIL donated it. HE owned it. That’s why it’s FANEUIL Hall. However, if they want to put a Krispus Kreme Donuts in there, I’m fine with that. LOL

I get the whole Robert E. Lee thing. I really do. However, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James Polk, and Zachary Taylor all owned slaves. Thomas Jefferson, who wrote, “All men are created equal…,” knew slavery was wrong but apparently not for him.
Among others… Vice President Andrew Johnson, Ulysses S. Grant, and Benjamin Franklin owned slaves. Grant later said it was a “stain to the union,” but had them nonetheless.
Slaves helped build the White House. Should we remove it?
I think history should be preserved…even if it is dreadful and wrong.

Robert E. Lee was the most decorated soldier in the U.S. Army. He was a man of unimpeachable integrity. Lincoln offered him command of the Union Army, but Lee refused only because his loyalty was to Virginia. Lee opposed both secession and slavery. And yet to the historically illiterate left, a man who opposed both slavery and secession has come to symbolize both slavery and secession. Instead of truthfully confronting American history, the left-wing media and the Democratic Party are trying to pin the blame for slavery on those who don’t deserve it. To me there’s a bigger story here – the left’s attempt to blame slavery entirely on the American South. This is a big lie, because number one, most Southerners did not own slaves, nor did most Confederate soldiers. Number two, the Northern Democrats in the preceding 40 years before the Civil War aggressively protected slavery. And they worked in cahoots with Southern Democrats. The fight over slavery wasn’t between North and South. It was between a pro-slavery Democratic Party and the anti-slavery Republicans. This entire controversy, and the larger effort to remove Confederate memorials all over the South, is an attempt to cunningly conceal the Democrats’ historic role in protecting slavery as an institution.

The bigger story is this is all just a distraction. Keep us divided and fighting each other so that big government and liberal, “superior” policies can control more of our lives. The Democrats have only survived the last 70 years as a political party because of these tactics – they’ve just stopped hiding their totalitarianistic ideology now that they have Trump as an excuse.

It won’t win them any elections, but they can all feel better about themselves after they’ve acted out their latent fascist fantasies.

I know that these days history is a rapidly evolving paradigm. So let me see if I properly understand this all. The current version of the history of slavery is that white people traveled to Africa by boat, hid in the bushes with nets to capture Africans and then transported them back to America and elsewhere to serve as slaves. A boat full of white people were able to accomplish this with no interference or any sanction from the natives. Stole them per say from their homeland? There was no trade involved and the slaves own ancestors that may or may not have traded them bare absolutely no responsibility at all. But somehow hundreds of years later history has to be erased because it should have never happened.

Just keep up this nonsense and you will only create more neo-Nazis.

Religious “leaders” should stay out of these arguments unless they want to lose their tax-exempt status, although I feel that since religion is a business, they should pay taxes on their profits.

Turtleboy always shows his ignorance when he talks about the south/confederacy. I often wonder when the light bulb will turn on and he will realize he was taught history of the south by the very SJW’s he can’t stand. This is a purging of our culture and history, and it usually prefaces a civil war. Times haven’t changed much, northerners still think they know best and what’s right for the south.

I always wondered why if you join a club, then decide to leave the club and form your own, which you are forced back into the original club at gunpoint, that makes you a traitor? Doesn’t a traitor sell you out to your enemies or join the other side in a war? TB needs to understand the words he is using.

Never forget that Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton are reverends, too. Those great, pious men of god.
