I’m not a fan of taking a knee during the anthem, I didn’t like when Kaepernick started and I didn’t like Sunday when dozens more players participated. Did I watch the game, you bet I did. Does being against the take a knee protest make me a jackbooted Trump supporter? Nope. I don’t like it because it’s not doing anything about the race issues it was intended to address. It is doing a great job dividing the country, however.
The flag and anthem are symbols – thankfully there are men and women in this country willing to die for what those symbols represent. Taking a knee is also a symbol – but without action – real action – behind it it’s meaningless. Is there a magic number of players that are needed to kneel during the anthem and all race issues will just disappear? Anyone have Kaep’s number or maybe the Bennett boys? There must be, right, why else is it still going on?
If people want to protest the NFL and accomplish nothing over players who are also accomplishing nothing by kneeling – knock yourselves out. All you’re doing is making yourselves feel better.
“What did you do during the raise awareness war, daddy?”
“For 2 minutes, one day a week for 16 weeks, I kneeled”
“Wow, did you get a medal Daddy?”
“I sure did, it’s a participation medal.”
Listen, I don’t take a knee during the anthem and I’ve moved the discussion on race just as far as these nudniks have.
When this first started, and apparently as it continues today, it was about bringing attention to an issue – ok – so you have our attention – what are you going to do with it? You’re either lazy bastards who are waiting for someone else to come along and fix the problem – typical liberal/snowflake behavior. Or you’re a bunch of assholes who have no interest in fixing anything – you only want to stir things up and continue to sow divisiveness in this country.
The large majority of people in this country are against racism – you’re not exactly a revolutionary for taking that stand – but you are a bit of dick for continuing these protests without a way to move forward.
Kaepernick can’t get a job in the league, and that could be because he has shown zero leadership, but he has an opportunity to do more than just be a football player – he could affect real change be doing something with the giant platform he’s been given. But he hasn’t.
Anyone of those other guys could step up. But they haven’t
That should tell you something.
I can’t let any discussion about the NFL happen without bringing up the utter hypocrisy of the league and the issue of privilege – black privilege™ that is.
When Tim Tebow kneeled in prayer, it was called polarizing. When players wanted to wear stickers in memory of the 5 police officers that were killed in Dallas, they couldn’t. Commemorating 9/11? Not in this NFL. Protesting the flag? Sure thing – can we get you anything? Maybe a national TV camera trained on you the whole time? A weekly press conference to raise awareness, perhaps?
If you want to kneel during the anthem or boycott the league – go right ahead. I’ll be sitting on my couch, watching the game and doing just as much as either of those 2 groups – but I’ll be doing it with an ice-cold beer and a plate of wings in my hand.
