Whenever you think Worcester sucks always remember that it could be much, much worse – you could live in Springfield – a magical place that makes it easier for kids from Longmeadow and Agawam to get high. There’s been an ongoing pissing match in Springfield between city councilor Orlando Ramos and Police Sergeant John Delaney. It is Sergeant Delaney’s job to be some sort of liaison with the press. So when something bad happens he’s the the one who speaks for the department.

So why doesn’t Councilor Ramos like him? Because Sgt. Delaney’s got too much of a sense of humor. So he wrote a letter condemning Sgt. Delaney’s press releases, including the following:

Let’s look at each of the four bullet points and see if this is something worth getting mad about….

  • On December 1 a car got shot up. The victim (driver) called police long afterwards, and parts of his story didn’t make sense. Sgt. Delaney said the story had a lot of holes in it.

God forbid a police officer ever question the word of a man whose story about a car covered in bullet holes doesn’t make sense. Cops should believe everything they are told by people with bullet holes in their car. Especially when they live in Springfield. Because innocent people get their car shot up for no reason all the time.

  • In 2011 a Springfield man names Tamik Kirkland, who was incarcerated at minimum security state prison in Shirley, broke out (left without saying goodbye), and hunted down the man who had shot his mother while he was in jail. People were critical of the police for not alerting prison staff that Tamik’s mother was killed, because had they done so he wouldn’t have been able to escape so easily. Sgt. Delaney’s response to this was, “She did not have a sign around her neck that said Tamik Kirkland is my son.”

Wait…what’s the problem here? He didn’t realize that the woman who got shot was related to a guy in prison in Shirley. So he made a facetious comment about it. This is a big deal in Springfield? This is what they have to worry about? Cops with sass? Sure, there’s like a billion shooting in Springfield every year. But the biggest issue the city is facing is this cop who isn’t afraid to make you look dumb when you ask him stupid questions.

  • In June of 2015 a man named Anthony Serrano was killed in what officer’s believed was a gang related shooting. Sgt. Delaney brought up the fact that Mr. Serrano had been arrested for violent and drug related crimes multiple times previously, and said that Mr. Serrano was “well-known to the department. His record speaks for itself.”

Turtleboy’s gang-banging days are long gone, but if I recall the code of the street was that this sort of stuff happened to you if you were in the game. Naturally then it makes perfect sense for this city councilor to be butthurt that a police officer pointed out the fact that gang activity and a life of crime has a tendency to lead to a tragic demise. God forbid someone mention that.

  • In early November of 2015 an 18 year old Springfield man was shot and killed after leaving a party. Sgt. Delaney pointed out that the victim was “coffining” beforehand. Apparently coffining is a new thing where you cross your arums like you’re in a coffin, and fall down on top of someone’s car with the intent to cause destruction.

Yup, let’s just ignore the set of events that lead up to people’s murders. Instead of addressing a cultural problem that is leading to 18 year old kids getting shot, let’s blame the police for identifying the dangerous things they were doing before getting shot. That makes PERFECT sense.

Soooo, what’s the problem here? Oh I get it, Orlando Ramos is Springfield’s version of Sarai Rivera.

10408097_10203790149153895_2283781731923693376_n

Sarai and her followers blame a boy on a turtle, and Orlando and crew blame a witty cop who delivers the news they don’t wanna hear.

The bottom line is Orlando Ramos is just looking for a reason to shit on cops. Business as usual for politicians these days. Why mention that gang activity sometimes leads to getting shot? That’s way too factual for Orlando’s liking. Because the truth is hate speech and hurts people’s feelings. Just another example of a gutless politician who would rather blame the police for telling it like it is, instead of addressing HUGE problems in the community that continue to be taboo topics of conversation.

Please add Southbridge to the contestants for worst place to live in MA. Springfield and Lawrence probably are worse, but I have to say there aren’t many places I like less than Southbridge (the eye of the Commonwealth is what is says on their sign, I say the asshole of the commonwealth). And this jackass councilor is elected by.the Hood rats that he’s reppin in Springfield. He just doin his job looking out for his constituencies

The first point Ramos made is strange. That is the first instinct of anyone intelligent, to surmise the most likely possibility of an act of violence was perpetrated by someone that knew the victim. Homicide investigators do it all the time. They ask the spouse first, and they don’t take it as an insult, they simply can’t rule anything out and can’t leave anything to chance.

He’s just doing his job. Albeit, in a sassy way, so I can see why someone might take offense when it is a dead relative, but freedom of speech is just that. The guy certainly isn’t lying or making anything up.
