The video below is making the rounds on Facebook and other places. It’s from the Hagerstown, MD Police body cameras. It shows the officers struggling to subdue a 15 year old girl, handcuffing her and ultimately needing to use pepper spray.

Of course the apologists and excuse makers are out in force defending this girl’s actions and placing the blame squarely on the police. Here what I’ve been able to learn. She was riding her bike and collided with a car; there was a report that she was unconscious for 30 seconds and the car’s driver kept her there until the police arrived. The video looks to pick up right about there.

The police have responsibility to find out what happened, assign responsibility if warranted and determine if anyone needs medical care. This girl wanted no part of hanging around – could be because she was at fault, or, as some people have stated, she was found with pot on her and didn’t want her parents finding out. Regardless of why she was leaving, the police had every right to stop her and as she became more belligerent and combative they had to use the methods they did to get the situation under control.

Of course there are many opinions on the matter – let’s take a look at a few:

Oh Marsha, Marsha, Marsha – what should they have done? Let her ride off on her bike? She wasn’t about to tell her parents what happened so they wouldn’t have known to seek treatment. Two hours later she has a brain bleed and dies – it’s the cops fault for letting her leave.

screen-shot-2016-09-27-at-12-01-26-pm

And that different approach would have been what exactly? That’s was immensely unhelpful – thanks for stopping by.

As long as you’re being reasonable.

screen-shot-2016-09-27-at-12-02-04-pm

They kind of are – otherwise we’d have far more situation like this and chaos would be the norm.

I don’t think you know what the word ‘usually’ means. But you do seem to grasp the concept of hyperbole.

screen-shot-2016-09-27-at-12-02-14-pm

Right, the only problem are the cops.

screen-shot-2016-09-27-at-12-02-20-pm

Oh hey Corey – do you have a split personality? You know who else can’t tell if someone’s good or bad by looking at them – the cops. And she’s not ‘a little girl’ – little girls don’t act like that. She’s a 15 year old who’s disrespectful and bratty and got exactly what she deserved. Douche.

screen-shot-2016-09-27-at-12-02-25-pm

Hi – maybe you and Brenda can go halfsies on a dictionary.

screen-shot-2016-09-27-at-12-02-30-pm

I’m the kind of a-hole that thinks when you still don’t comply – she wouldn’t put her feet in the car – you get what’s coming next.

screen-shot-2016-09-27-at-12-02-34-pm

A little out of control? It took 4 cops to get her to the point where they could put her in the car and she still wouldn’t comply. She wouldn’t put her feet in the car – after being told repeatedly to do it. At that point it was easy to see she wasn’t going to budge so she wins a face full of pepper spray.

screen-shot-2016-09-27-at-12-02-39-pm

Ok – I’m right there with in dismissing people who can’t spell or use proper punctuation but they had every reason to detain her. She was involved in an accident, she may have been injured, and she is underage and per parent need to be notified about both of those things.

I think I’m in love!

Of course the parents have retained a lawyer who immediately released a video from a by-stander, which of course doesn’t have the entire interaction (the same parents who couldn’t come to the accident scene where their kid was hit by a car because they were watching a football game).  They’re demanding ‘accountability’ – how about starting with your child. She was confrontational from the start and was the cause of the escalating situation.

The parents and the girl are saying she acted like that because she was dizzy and confused and just wanted to go home. Really? Seems pretty convenient to claim that something was wrong when she never mentioned it to the cops. She looked OK when they walked over to her on her bike – she walked away without so much as a sway or wobble. She actually refused treatment. Oh, and the cops wanted to contact her parents but she said they’d be mad. Mad about what, exactly? If you were the innocent victim in the accident I don’t think there’s much for your parents to be upset about. Or is that more ‘confusion’?

If my kid was acting like that then they deserve what they get and I’d have no problem with how the police handled it. Look, at some point you have to realize you’re beat and just stop – but she’s a petulant little brat who was determined to be the biggest pain in the ass for those cops. She was the bad ass until shit got real and then she freaked out. They had more patience than I would have had in that situation and I think they should be commended.

And all those people with the ‘should have been handled differently’ comments – give me a break – under the same circumstances you would have been a frustrated, crying puddle who would have pepper sprayed her the minute she gave you a hard time. This is the type of crap these cops put up with day in and day out and the fact that they’re not knocking heads around speaks to their training and professionalism.

Are there bad cops? Sure. But there are also a lot of good, hard working ones who don’t need people second guessing them who have no clue about the job. The Police Chief is standing by his officers and I hope the Mayor does the same thing and doesn’t bend over and write a check to make it all go away. The video might be uncomfortable to watch, especially if you have a kid, but that doesn’t mean the cops were wrong.

According to fox5dc dot com (respectfully)
    . . . . . . . .
“HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Body-camera video released by police shows an incident in which officers pepper-sprayed a 15-year-old girl after HER BICYCLE ALLEGEDLY HIT A CAR in Hagerstown. Authorities say the girl had refused to cooperate with police trying to question her about the accident and find a parent to authorize her refusal to receive medical treatment from paramedics on the scene.

The 15-year-old girl faces charges of disorderly conduct, second degree assault, possession of marijuana and failure to obey a traffic device. The incident has prompted disagreement about whether the officers acted properly.”
    . . . . . . . .

So basically….. She had weed. That’s why she was she didn’t want to stick around. And I from the wording above, SHE hit the car; the car did not hit her.

I’ll wager that she treats her parents with the same dismal lack of respect. Her folks should study this lesson in authority.

Ha! That savage little twat is lucky she didn’t catch a beating.

Her parents should have smacked her around plenty, so she wouldn’t act like that with the police. Had she cooperated o guarantee they wouldn’t have given two shits about the dime bag she had.
