MassliveNineteen University of Massachusetts students agreed to be arrested Wednesday night, capping the third day of the Whitmore Administration Building sit-in by students demanding the university divest from fossil fuels.

More than 230 students occupied Whitmore halls before campus officials ordered them to leave just ahead of the building’s scheduled 6 p.m. closing. Students from Divest UMass, the organizing group, say they will continue the protest until the five-campus UMass system agrees to complete fossil fuel divestment.

The students were quiet until staff and faculty left the building at 5 p.m., at which point the students erupted into chanting and singing. They sang things such as “Stand up, fight back” and “If we don’t get it, shut it down.”

Divest UMass had demanded that UMass officials commit to divesting from the top 200 publicly traded fossil fuel companies by 5 p.m. Wednesday.

“If they do not give us a decision by the end of the business day at 5 p.m., we will continue with our escalation,” Divest UMass spokesman Filipe Carvalho said.

unnamed-19

All except the 19 volunteers peacefully left the building just after 6 p.m. once police issued the dispersal order, then continued the rally outside, chanting “Fossil fuels have got to go, hey, hey, ho, ho.” More than 150 students were gathered on the knoll and grass outside of Whitmore.

Fifteen were arrested Tuesday and arraigned in Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown on Wednesday.

Approximately 200 protesters left the building voluntarily when police issued a dispersal notice about 5:45 p.m. As they left, a group of 50 people lined the entrance to the building and chanted to show support.

HAHHAHAHHAHAHHA. Gotta love hippies and college student with a cause. They are a never ending source of humor. Hey ding-dongs, if you wanna protest something that actually matters, you should be down at the athletics department demanding that UMass Basketball fire Derek Kellogg. Because that guy SUCKS. A winning UMass basketball team would make your school a million times better than some windmills and solar panels.

Skinny jeans on men. Just no.

Seriously though, they can’t even see their own hypocrisy. And it isn’t even a protest. It’s just a bunch of people who haven’t showered in 72 hours sitting in a hallway using free wifi. Oh yea, and all those lap tops they’re using were manufactured by children in Chinese sweatshops that emit more carbon emissions than American companies are legally allowed to produce. Same with the iPhones they’re using. And it was cold out yesterday, but we have hippies in Whitmore wearing t-shirts and eating pizza. What do you think is keeping them warm? Oh yea, fossil fuels. How do you think these kids from Beverly, West Boylston, Upton, and a variety of other places got to Amherst in the first place? Oh yea, car. Then there’s the plastic water bottles they’re drinking out of which came from fossil fuels. Oh yea, and all the clothing and food they’re eating? Those were transported in trucks.

Here’s a couple of the morons who were arrested which we found in the UMass Police Logs:

Abigail Nash, riding a John Deere tractor. Gee whiz, that thing must run on hippie juice and good vibes.

Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 10.35.43 AM

Kayleigh Boucher, shown here in Paris. Hmmmm, I wonder if she canoed to Paris. Oh wait, she probably took a plane, powered and manufactured with fossil fuels.

Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 10.35.21 AM

Alright, Michelle here might be legit. And she’s a junior smokeshow, so she can protest with me any day of the week. I’d have no problem pretending to care about whatever it is she’s protesting about just to get a chance to a little “divesting” with her.

The best part about this whole thing is that if UMass did agree to stop using fossil fuels they would be forced into using alternative forms of energy that are vastly more expensive. Then tuition and fees would go through the roof and these same idiots would be whining about free college. Because everything is free in their simple little minds.

Gotta love the “demands” that come along with these protests too. Hey geniuses, only terrorists and first wives get to make demands. Because they are dangerous and possess the power to fuck your world up. But no one is listening to the demands of this nudnik:

Screen Shot 2016-04-14 at 9.30.56 AM

Good God. I can smell him from Worcester.

Here’s what they should’ve done to these idiots – turn off the lights and the wifi. They would’ve been out of there by 5:15.

Here they are in court:

Oh sweet baby Jesus. What a bunch of ragtags.

The judge was hilarious too:

“Judge Estes at one point looked out at the gathering of students in the courtroom gallery. “You know,” he said, “when I read the papers and drove over here today, I was expecting a bunch of bikes out front.” Chuckles sounded around the courtroom, including from the students.

Boom. Roasted.

The problem is that there’s really no consequences for this, so what’s the point of arresting them? If a UMass student were arrested for underage consumption of alcohol at the Blarney Blowout, or writing “Trump 2016” in chalk, they’d be kicked out of school. But these kids are going to be treated like heroes because their professors were the ones who put them up to this. Several of them even participated in this sit in. They just weren’t willing to get arrested with them because they have real jobs and understand the concept of consequences. But every single one of these students should be expelled, no questions asked. They were man and woman enough to break the law by trespassing on private property, and now they they need to be man and woman enough to deal with the consequences.

Anyway, this is NOT what UMass is all about. These kids are all just losers. The vast majority of UMass students are normal, clean looking people who are there to get an education and a real job. This is not what the future looks like. It’s an aberration. I mean, just look at some of these dopes:

These are the kids who were never invited to any parties. They were there before Turtleboy was at UMass, while we were there, and they’ll be there long after this. And while they’re wasting the best four years of their life, the rest of us were getting plastered and making out with people who don’t love us. And it was awesome. Sucks to be you hippies.

We urge you to support the Turtleboy Sponsors by doing business with them. Without them none of this is possible. Click on any of them to check out their sites or Facebook pages.

Invest in BIG OIL, little oil, Natgas, Fracking. Time to invest is when prices are low not when they are high. Just a few short years ago so many were whining about $4 gallon gasoline and $4.5 gallon heating oil. Memories are so so short. Show me a single solar company making a profit. Fact is emerging market population getting bigger every day and they are going to want to drive and fly. Demographics, can’t stop it despite some progressives insistence that social security is sound when it fact it is a mathematical certainty that it is not.

Funny thing is, investments or not, UMass Amherst replaced their central power and heat plant with a beast of a gas turbine (uses natural gas about 80% of the time), which reduced their fossil fuel usage by nearly 30%. Investing in energy companies IS investing in clean/renewable energy as well. The same companies that make their livings with fossil fuels today, will be the energy companies who make their livings with hydrogen fuel cells, natural gas, and other fuel sources in the future, or they’ll be extinct at some point. These privileged turds should get showers, jobs, and start taking real classes. The real world is going to kick their skinny jeaned assholes really quick.

When people talk “investing” in alternative energy they mean subsidizing stuff that is NOT economically viable. The goal should be combining efficiency with sources of abundant energy such as natural gas. Sure supplement it with good insulation and even solar if you must. Of course not in the liberals backyard. But drill and let natural gas flow! cheap clean and plentiful.

      April 15, 2016 at 12:17 am

No. When I talk about”investing” I mean spending money directly on research and infrastructure. Both will create jobs and stimulate growth.

Secondly it is extremely economically viable and becoming more so by the day. Th more we invest in research and infrastructure the more economicaly viable it becomes.

You must be reading research articles the right wing is feeding you from 5 years ago.

Lastly, as someone who works in the industry, China is killing us in the market right now. This stuff is going to explode, and if your that willing to ignore it based on outdated information and propaganda then I dont know what to tell you. It really doesnt make sense that all you people who want to “make America great again” are so willi g to sacrifi e American greatness and innovation for political affiliation.

Now, I have solar panels in my back yard and a wood burning stove which are nice to offset my fuel and electric bill, but neither of the two are going to replace fuel or electric on a large scale. Because a few solar panels lower by bills I’m not going to divest in stocks that make me money relayed to fossil fuels or anything else for that matter.

With that said, you accuse people around here of believing old right wing propaganda. Maybe you should educate yourself on the Green Loan Program, that Department of Energy, an agency that works under the current President stocked with his own political hacks, that has even done an audit and found it’s an abject failure. Only to the tune of 2.2 Billion. Nothing to see here folks.

I’m gonna sound like a huge hippie but whatever. There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t be investing more money into clean energy and alternate energy sources. These kids weren’t protesting the use of fossil fuels, rather the investment in the industry. I personally don’t think we should give up on the fossil fuel industry but investing in alternate energy sources will do a plethora of great things. For starters it will create an enormous amount of technical and service jobs, which I don’t think anyone can complain about. Whether or not you believe that climate change is a thing, moving towards energy independence as a country will only benefit us. If the US has the capability to produce all the energy it uses, we wont have to worry about keeping our Oil safe in the middle east which is excellent for foreign relations. Investment in alternative energy will also bring the cost down, making it easier for business to switch over where they can, saving money which will inherently create growth and jobs.

Lastly wouldn’t everyone want America to be the leader of the world when it comes to innovation.

If your against alternative energy sources as a whole then in my honest opinion, you are an idiot who has been brainwashed by right wing media and politicians. They are using you to keep their pockets lined with money from the Oil industry. They really don’t care about you at all.

    • JayC
      April 14, 2016 at 5:03 pm

They are just typical liberals who make decisions based on feelings instead of facts. If the stocks related to fossil fuels or other “sins” are doing well and allowing the schools endowment, pension fund, or whatever account to make gains than I am all for it. I really don’t care how much a stock offends someone’s delicate sensibilities, if it is making money these days, all the better.

If the school board caves like a bunch of fairies and decides to divest from stocks that are making money for ones of less value or opportunity than the pay of all the useless hack administrators who are the highest paid employees in the state should be decreased according to the loss in income.

      • Trump's boy penis
        April 14, 2016 at 5:16 pm

I think it is you who is the one basing this off of “Feelings”. I stated FACTS.

Investing in alternative energy sources WILL create jobs.

Investing in alternative energy sources WILL bring the cost of said sources down and WILL increase the efficiency of said sources.

Increasing the efficiency and lowering the cost WILL allow companies to switch over, which WILL in turn allow them to grow and create more JOBS.

Reducing dependency on fossil fuels WILL make America safer, by reducing the necessity of protecting fossil fuels in regions across the world.

Everything I am saying is based off of FACTS. If you are to ignorant to see these, then you my friend are brainwashed by the “Anti-climate change” atmosphere in right wing politics.

The funny thing is, I don’t even need to argue with you idiots on the grounds of climate change existing or not. If you don’t want the US to invest in alternative energy sources for the reasons stated above, you sir are UN-AMERICAN, as you do not want America to be the leading innovator in an industry that is going to take off whether we like it or not. You want the communist Chinese to beat us to all the innovation rather than it taking place here.

Except Oil has dropped over 50% in the last year or so, so by investing in “big oil” they have probably cost themselves quite a bit of money. Stupid Facts. Don’t let them get in the way of your argument.

When I was in college (in the ’70’s) we would not have left our dorm looking like that – even if it was a fire drill.

You just can’t take an unkempt, beta male, in their queer skinny jeans seriously, no matter their cause or how loud they yell. They should be booted from school and sent back to mommy and daddy’s basement, but you know that won’t happen.

This was hilarious. We need cheap natural gas now and more infrastructure to transport it. If the endowments are smart, which they are, now is the time to invest more heavily in the energy companies. Another great thing about the energy industry, excellent jobs we need more of. These cupcakes can’t have it both ways.

They should be more concerned about professors that are killing them with high tuition because of their salaries. Example #1. They could head over to Elizabeth Warren’s house and march out front. But they won’t. She plays these children for fools.

  • Bowen Hardcase

Funny thing is, I don’t think they actually want the schools to stop using fossil fuels or even reduce what they use, they just want them to not invest any school money in the oil companies. Like they think that the school is indirectly supporting big oil because some of their money is invested with those companies. You’d think that asking the school to cut back on use would be more sensible and have more of an impact…

    • JayC
      April 14, 2016 at 3:57 pm

Maybe the school should turn the heat down to about 55 or 60 next winter and test their commitment eliminating reliance on fossil fuel. Bet they would have a protest to turn up the heat and claim being forced to be cold is barbaric (and racist too, can’t forget to throw that in).
