Attention turtle riders: I have reached my breaking point with Facebook. As much trouble as they cause us, we need Facebook to grow because it’s where all the people are. We follow their stupid rules and get taken down anyway because mobs of idiots mass report us for porn or bullying or whatever, and since no one reviews these reports, if you do it enough times Facebook AI flags your page as problematic and takes you down. In the last 30 days we’ve had dozens of posts taken down, and four of our admin accounts suspended for 30 days. We also lost Turtleboy Sports Returns, which had 31,000 followers. Here’s a brief collection of stuff from just the last 30 days.
Like I said, I’d love to just blow Facebook off, but the fact of the matter is there are a lot of really dumb turtle riders out there who message us and say, “Hey you guys should start a website,” or “I haven’t seen you guys on Facebook recently, are you still blogging?” If that is you, I secretly hate you with every ounce of my being and I’m too polite to tell you that directly because you’re a fan.
My point is, Facebook has trained millions of people, without even realizing it, to believe that if it doesn’t appear in their Facebook page then it doesn’t exist. Gone are the days when people go directly to their favorite websites. Social media has programmed us to go to them first, and then they will act as the gatekeepers to decide what you see, and we don’t have the power to change that. No one should ever possess that amount of power over the dissemination of information, but yet here they are. We have an app, an email list, and over 8 million people last year went directly to our site. But without Facebook, blogs don’t get shared, they don’t spread, and we don’t grow. It is a necessary evil.
At this point our track record for real news is pretty well established. Look at all the stories we’ve investigated in the Turtleboy Investigates category. Obviously the State Police stories have been the biggest, but none of them would’ve been picked up by the media if we didn’t write about them first. And all of them have elicited some type of reform to resolve the problem we highlighted. This is the essence of journalism, and why a free press exists in the first place.
We’ve contacted numerous media outlets about this, particularly conservatives because they’re more likely to pick up on a story like this. But Market Watch, the NewBostonPost, and the New Bedford Guide are the only media outlets who have written about it. The Boston Herald’s Michael Graham said he was going to write about us because he was a fan, but never did. So did the Daily Caller. The Turtlegram and Gazette, Masslive, Worcester Magazine, the Boston Globe, and countless other outlets that have cited our work, or used their platform to criticize us, have all remained silent. That’s because they want us to stay down, because independent media is a threat to their existence.
At this point I consider these media outlets are enemies. If they’re not willing to write about this it’s because they won’t understand what it feels like until it happens to them. THEN they will write about it, and these issues can begin to get fixed. The media should be uniting to stop censorship on social media. Instead they cheer it on because they think it couldn’t happen to them. That’s where you all come in.
We’ve created a Facebook group that dedicated turtle riders can join, for the sole purpose of mass reporting the shit out of pages that we direct you to mass report. The only way the media will write about this if it happens to them. And as you’ve seen from our enemies, it’s not that hard to take down any page you don’t like. Look at how dedicated these losers are to silencing us:
Facebook allows you to anonymously report a page, but these people were cocky enough to openly brag about taking us down. They probably report us hundreds of times before an algorithm is triggered and we get flagged.
This is the kind of dedication it’s going to take in order to take down other pages. If you’re not down for it, that’s cool. But we formed this group for the sole purpose of mass reporting pages we choose. We will assign 5-6 admins who will direct you at targeted pages. We’ll start with conservative pages, since they’re the ones who should be writing about this stuff but aren’t. We will give you tips on how to report, and what to report for. Typically bullying, hate speech, sexual violence, and spam are the most effective. Understand that most of the time you will fail when you report a page. As one commenter pointed out:
The thing I am astounded with is how you get “suspended” frequently or have articles removed. Yet, I and many others reported a fake page and it still remains, FB says it doesn’t violate their standards.
That’s because if you reported a post once it’s probably not going to get taken down, since a human being most definitely did NOT review your report. You have to be as dedicated as the people trying to take us down. It’s time to give these media companies a taste of what it’s like to be Turtleboy. If you’re not with us, you’re against us. And we will burn everything.
If you like free speech and want to support what we’re doing, feel free to donate to the Turtle fund:
Hello Turtle Riders. As you know if you follow Turtleboy we are constantly getting censored and banned by Facebook for what are clearly not violations of their terms of service. Twitter has done the same, and trolls mass reported our blog to Google AdSense thousands of times, leading to demonitization. We can get by and survive, but we could really use your help. Please consider donating by hitting the PayPal button above if you’d like support free speech and what we do in the face of Silicon Valley censorship.
