Source: “One Community Open to All” has been a familiar slogan in Melrose since the 1990s, when the newly formed Human Rights Commission instituted it in an effort to foster inclusiveness and cohesion. Now the accompanying logo, which combines a dove and an open hand to symbolize peace and friendship, will be getting an update, thanks to a contest sponsored by the HRC, Melrose Arts, the Melrose High School Visual Arts Department, Mayor Robert Dolan, and the recently formed group Melrose Organizes for Real Equality.

Dolan said the recent debate over the possibility of Melrose becoming a sanctuary city convinced him the motto is still on people’s minds.

“It was civil, it was well done, there were even a few laughs,” he said. Publicizing the slogan more widely through the contest for a new logo could spread the message further, he added, “really making it a unifying force in the city, regardless of your political party.”

The place to repair schisms along racial, religious, and other lines is the local level, LaFrance said.

“Clearly now it’s more important than ever,” he said. “Melrose has a long history of coming together in times like this, and finding a common voice. This is a clever and creative way in which residents can get involved in doing that again, and reaffirming that value.”

“We are thrilled to cosponsor the contest,” said Naima Ahrabar of MORE, formed last fall in the wake of the presidential election.

Hmmmm….So this came around right after the Presidential election, but it’s not a political thing? Yup, that sounds believable.

I know that we say we’re not racist at Turtleboy Sports. But this Turtleboy really, really hates white people. We are the absolute worst. Especially upper middle class white people with a bad case of white guilt, who have purposely chosen to live in places like Melrose where almost everyone is white.

Seriously, what are we doing here? This is a community that is extremely expensive to live in. Home values are so high that they have effectively priced out minority populations. That’s like the definition of systematic racism. But it’s cool though because all the white people are drawing pictures of white hands shaking hands with brown hands, so they’re totally inclusive now.

The ironic part about this is that the slogan for Melrose is “One Community Open to All.” Of course what they really mean is, “One community open to wealthy SJW elitists who can afford to live here.” Don’t get me wrong, these people would love nothing more than token brown and black people to move into their neighborhood so they can show how diverse they are on Instaface. But the problem is that THEY are the reasons home prices have skyrocketed over the years. THEY are the reason so many people of color simply cannot live in Melrose with them. And THEY are the ones fleeing the minority-laden urban areas for the white nationalist suburbs. But it’s OK because they pretend to care about Ramadan

Hold workshops about how locals can check their white privilege

“Celebrate” the non-existent diversity of their 92% white town by drawing murals

And they march in parades and put the Indian lady up front because she counts!!

Everyone pat yourselves on the back!!

Lauren with the pink pussy hat fixed racism!! Yay!!!

I’m clearly doing it wrong. Webster is like 97% white, but it’s a fucking dump that nobody wants to live in.

Melrose is culturally bias since they are a dry city, therefore Melrose doesn’t support cultural diversity.

If they want some diversity, why not have the good people of the town buy up some houses and bring people in from Great Brook Valley and let them live in these houses. But they will never do this. They talk about it so they can feel good about themselves, because for some reason, a few people are suffering from white guilt and cannot sleep at night.

Oh please, “minorities can’t afford” to live in… Melrose? You make it sound like Melrose is some hoity-toity town like Lincoln or Marston’s Mills or Chestnut Hill in Newton, but it’s not. Melrose is a mid-priced community located north of Boston between Medford/Stoneham and Saugus, and North of Malden, and not much different. Or maybe you’re hoping all the little problems you have out there in Metrowest will pick up and move here.

PS Larry Elder often cites stats that on average, married black couples earn more each year than married white couples. But that kind of busts up the “poor me” narrative, doesn’t it– oh look, a squirrel!

“Home values are so high that they have effectively priced out minority populations. That’s like the definition of systematic racism.”

Hey dude… not all white people can afford to live there. AND other races can have money too, you know, and move there if they so choose.

Don’t lump all members of one race together. That is the exact definition of racism.

T&G’s Williamson lives in Auburn. Ladyslipper Lane. Over half the emps at the T&G live outside Worcester. Heck Augustus won’t live in Worcester.

Worcester is proof that diversity makes for terrible places to live.
