Was on the Facebook machine today and came across this from the New York Post:

Oh for fuck’s sake. So this woman Meghann Foye wrote this article in the New York Post, whining about how she doesn’t get time off from work but people with kids do. Here’s a couple excerpts:

Meghann Foye, 38, was jealous of co-workers clocking out for maternity leave, and decided she needed a break of her own. Here, the author of the novel “Meternity” (Mira, out now), tells The Post’s Anna Davies why she believes every woman deserves mandated “me time.”

You’re right, everyone does deserve “me time.” It’s called not having kids. I remember when I used to have friends and hobbies. It was pretty cool being able to go out whenever I wanted, plan vacations on a whim, and even exercise whenever I wanted to. Then Turtleboy Jr. came along and shit got real. Because once you have kids, “me time” is the 15 minutes you spend in the bathroom pretending to take a shit until Mrs. Turtleboy knocks on the door and asks what’s taking you so long in there.

Here’s Meghann Foye saving Paris:

The thought of the Turtleboy family ever going to Paris makes me cringe. Because the thought of taking Turtleboy Jr. on an international flight sounds like a special kind of hell. That and the fact that it’s logistically impossible. It’s cool though, because we kind of love him. We just realized that we don’t have the ability to do stuff like go to Paris because we chose to have kids. But please Meghann, tell me more about how you don’t have any “me time” for yourself.

It seemed that parenthood was the only path that provided a modicum of flexibility. There’s something about saying “I need to go pick up my child” as a reason to leave the office on time that has far more gravitas than, say, “My best friend just got ghosted by her OkCupid date and needs a margarita” — but both sides are valid.

No, they’re actually not both valid Meghann. One of them involves a child standing by themselves, waiting for a ride home so they can eat, sleep, and stay alive for another day. The other involves you hanging out with your friend who is sharing her latest story in a long list of never ending men who won’t commit to her because she’s such a miserable hag. The child needs the adult. The adult needs a vibrator.

While both men and women would benefit from a “meternity” leave after a decade or so in the workforce, the concept is one that would be especially advantageous for women. Burnout syndrome is well-documented in both sexes, but recent research suggests that women may experience it at greater rates; researchers postulate that it’s because women (moms and non-moms alike) feel overloaded by the roles they have to take on at work and at home.

Hold on a second. I thought men and women were equal? Now you’re telling me that men  have magical superpowers that enables them not get burned out? But, I thought the gender wage gap was because of sexism? Turns out Meghann here has decided that all women are unable to maintain focus at their job like men can.

Bottom line: Women are bad at putting ourselves first. But when you have a child, you learn how to self-advocate to put the needs of your family first. A well-crafted “meternity” can give you the same skills — and taking one shouldn’t disqualify you from taking maternity leave later.

What the fuck? This is real? Hey moron, a maternity leave is not a vacation. There is no “me” in maternity. Giving birth is not exactly fun, and neither is sleeping two hours at a time and constantly cleaning up human feces. I think it’s safe that say that most women would find it a lot more pleasant to be going to work and advancing professionally then being in charge of making sure a human being doesn’t die 24 hours a day.

As for me, I did eventually give notice at my job and take a “meternity” of my own. I may not have been changing diapers, but I grappled with self-doubt for the year and a half that I spent away from the corporate world. And I grieved the loss of my dad, who had just died after a long illness. But a “meternity” done right should be challenging. It should be about digging into your whole life and emerging from it more confident in who you are.

Translation – I wanted to take a vacation, so I used a family tragedy as an excuse to “find myself.” I’m a self-entitled product of the “me” generation who thinks that I have some sort of God given right to happiness.

Here’s another thing she failed to point out – women don’t get paid on maternity leave in America. We’re like one of the only civilized countries that still does that. So basically new mothers are sitting at home getting drooled on for free while Meghann is sitting in her cubicle getting paid.

I will say this though. If you’re in a workplace you shouldn’t be adding extra work onto your coworkers plates so that you can go to your kid’s baseball game. That’s just not fair. Part of having a kid is making a sacrifice. There’s certain things that have to get done, and you shouldn’t get preferential treatment in the workplace because you made the choice to reproduce.

But the bottom line is that no one would EVER say this 50 years ago. You’d be too embarrassed to because you come across like a whining Gen X-er. Welcome to life as an adult. If she wants to take some time off for “reflection” and “meternity leave” then she should just leave the job entirely, or reflect on how entitled and whiny losers like her have become.

She can have her Meternity Leave if she stuffs a watermelon up her withering birthcanal, squeezes it back out and babysits my kids for the next 18 years.

There, there Turtle. Don’t get your shell in a bunch. Look at it like this: at least she hasn’t reproduced. We win!

First of all her parents named her “Meghann.” WTF, who spells it like that? She was destined to grow up like a entitled whiny brat from the start. Good going mom and dad.

I bet she’s one of those women who expect her husband to help clean and cook too. Women today are fucking nuts! I would never ask my husband to do my job just as much as he won’t ask me to plunge a toilet full of shit. Pick a role, and stick with it.

I work for myself, so I guess the private practice part is right in a way, huh? I almost ran into someone I did NOT want to see. I actually turned the corner so hard and pressed the elevator button so much I’m sure my finger is broken, and maybe an ankle…lol. How was my day? Hmmm… I guess praying for 9pm to get here so I can drink some beer and hide in a corner should explain it! 🙂

The only time single women without kids, should have a paid leave. Is when they’re really young and hot. To give them time, to better and refine their already hot look. Maybe up to 35 in some rare cases. Ninety percent would be under 25 of course !

Poor Meghann, how has she made it this far in life? She is more than likely the one you come across in the supermarket who asks if she can check out before you because she only has 5 items and she’s running late for her yoga class.

Novel or not this happens in the real world. I was subject to this in my office and I will not comment any further because there is no way I can either way without looking like a sexist douchebag so I’ll just leave it as it does exist. And a novel, for what it’s worth, does have some degree of realism. Just sayin.’
