Apparently Kansas fans are pretty pissed off at local Worcester boob and Jayhawks starting point guard Naadir Tharpe. He had a pretty disappointing season, and Kansas was knocked out of the tournament in the second round by 10th seeded Stanford. So fans were none too pleased when this photo of Tharpe went viral…

Screen-Shot-2014-03-31-at-10-1.27.10-AM

Safe to say that this is the first time Tharpe nailed a 3 this March. Seriously, I would hope he could do a lot better. Turns out this woman is married and is a school nurse, but that’s besides the point.

Two questions:

1) Is this a selfie? If so then his wing span is insane.

2) What’s the problem here?

Kansas isn’t in season anymore. Sure, they lost, but Tharpe is over 21. I’m not sure why his pants are off, but that’s besides the point. Why can’t he got drop dead drunk and make really bad decisions? I mean, he’s not a professional athlete right? He’s just another college student right? That’s the justification for not paying college athletes. So then why does anyone get mad when a college kid acts like a college kid? This is what college kids do – get drunk, take selflies, and make really bad decisions.

Professional dooshnozzle, and Kansas coach Bill Self had this to say about the photo:

“Obviously, we are aware and had it brought to our attention this weekend. Certainly extremely disappointed with what transpired and the judgment that went along with it. To say anything else publicly would be something that would be inappropriate at this time. It will be handled internally. It will be addressed, and it will be handled internally.”

So why is Bill Self disappointed? Oh yea, because he’s from KANSAS. These parts of the country still teach creationism and can’t believe when people don’t act like puritans at all times. Billf Self righteous bullshit basically.

image-67

Self gets paid millions of dollars to coach a bunch of kids who generate the revenue for his salary, and they don’t get paid. If you still believe that paying for their “education” is adequate compensation then I have some property down in Cape Cod I’d like to sell you. Normal college students don’t have to work 40 hour weeks watching videos, going to meetings, practicing, traveling and playing in high profile games, on TOP OF taking a normal course load of an undergraduate. Normal college students don’t have people sensationalizing the fact that they got drunk and made out with a white girl who doesn’t love them. Normal college students aren’t held to an imaginary moral code that players like Tharpe are.

Here’s what some of the fans who enjoy Tharpe’s free labor have to say about their point guard:

“Personally, I hope the disciplinary action that comes is swift and severe.”

Punishment for what? Enjoying his life? Violating the Mann Act? Apparently he should receive a “severe” punishment for this. Chop his God damn hand off!!! That’ll keep him from taking anymore selflies!!!!

“It seems like Self has a problem with recruiting point guards who make bad decisions off the court, “

Do you understand what I would do for a point guard who made “bad off the court decisions” like this, to play at UMass? Anything. Newslfash to you self-righteous Jayhawk fans – every player you’ve ever rooted for is likely a scumbag off the court. Even Kirk Hinrich? ESPECIALLY Kirk Hinrich. Oh yea, and Paul Pierce was a Jayhawk and he got stabbed in the face. Who gets stabbed in the face? Probably an arrogant 22 year old dooshnozzle who tells gangsters with knives that “You can’t hurt this pretty face” as Pierce is alleged to have said.

“You get beat and knocked out of the tournament and not even 24 hours later you are in an instagram or whatever partying as if it is no big deal.”

So I guess the only acceptable reaction from Tharpe was to put his face in his pillow and cry himself to sleep. Maybe if he took a selfie of that then Jayhawk fans would be a little bit more supportive.

Bill+Self+Naadir+Tharpe+South+Florida+v+Kansas+hjVhoEq6J1hl

Look, Bill Self and Kansas fans can try to be morally outraged over this, but the fact of the matter is that this is a great recruiting tool. Imagine you’re trying to get some prospect that’s deciding between KU and BYU. All Self has to do is show the kid this photo, and then remind him that Brandon Davies was kicked off the team at BYU for having consensual sex with his girlfriend because it violated the “honor code.”

TurtleBoy Sports is a family blog, so normally we frown on behavior like this. But this is a Worcester guy, and we protect our own – even if they’re sellouts who went to St. Peter Marian. If people in Kansas are shocked by pictures like this, imagine what would happen to them if they went to the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Their heads would literally explode. This is why it’s so much better living up here. People who get morally outraged about pictures like this are laughed at and dismissed as nutjobs, as they should be.

Feel free to share your thoughts to keep the conversation going.

OMG, so fucking shocking, a drunk naked pic with a pretty girl. I thought he was some super celibate hero of the community. I’ll tell y’all a secret, he’s a dumb, self-centered douche. Oh, and he’s passing on his sub-par nig genes to white folk. At least it’s only the whites that are dumb enough to get with him that are being diluted; just speeding up the racial integration that will just make blacks smarter, more patient and caring, while very slowly making whites more violent, whiny liberals with a victim dissociation disorder. Fucking blacks always stealing what they desire (shit sometimes just stealing to steal with no intention of manipulating anything in their favor other than the power high), instead of working and earning and in turn growing. Now this is just a good majority of blacks I’m talking about, I couldn’t possibly be racist, my president is black. Sub-par race these blacks are, but it makes sense seeing as how they are the first humans, others races, especially whites, have had a lot more time to evolve further and grow in all aspects of life.

Let’s clear something else up – KU isn’t looking at a kid who’s ALSO considering BYU.

Wow. To the op I bet if mister Tharpe dropped by your place and took some selfies with your woman (provided your into women and not men). I’d wager your stance and perception. Of certain morality’s would change. Provided both paties are in the wrong it’s still WRONG, and it’s because the woman was married not white….

first off he did not graduate from MY HIGH SCHOOL! he only attended SPM in Jr high and is freshman year until he was picked up by a private school in NY. And second calling SPM a sell out school is so far off it is not even laughable. You need to be accepted into SPM only after you pass an entrance exam. SO even if he did graduate from SPM he deserved it like everyone else.(well not everyone, some payed their way into the school) but knowing him and giving him and his cousin a ride home after football practice most days of the week, they did not come from a family of money and earned their way into our excellent program. What other HS in Worcester can say they have a 99% graduation rate with over 60% of students going to schools (just to name a few) Georgetown, Yale, Harvard, Boston College, Stanford, Dartmouth. Ooo Idk none, Holy Name(Holy Shame) is a public school you pay for and St Johns, they are the sell out school, where money and power is your only way into that school.

People of Kansas aren’t “morally outraged.” The majority of Kansas fans couldn’t care less about this photo. But the fact of the matter is that Tharpe used terrible judgement when he posted this photo to SOCIAL MEDIA. It’s not the fact that he was drunk and in a state of undress with a married woman, but that he thought that he should share this photo with the world. You act as if all Kansans are ultra-conservative bible-thumping Christians, which is not the case at all. Lawrence, Kansas is actual an extremely liberal city. It all comes down to the fact that Tharpes decision to share this photo was idiotic at best.

How liberal can it be if it still frowns upon being pantsless with a married woman? I bet they were cool with Bill Clinton and Gary Hart doing it.

  • April 3, 2014 at 12:09 pm

I guess I am dumbfounded that whether one is from Massachusetts or Kansas that obvious immorality should be touted as the right thing to do and any who see it as it really is are called such names. Anyone, including the author who believes what Tharpe did is the right thing to do and that people should not call it what it is, both immoral and stupid are the problem here is either an idiot or demented.

I think why Self might be so mad is the fact it was a local high school nurse in the picture. She is 38 and WAS married, doubt she is now, and has since resigned from her job.

    • April 2, 2014 at 5:44 pm

Why does bill self give a shit about a school nurse? Is he a marriage counselor?

    • Joey G
      April 2, 2014 at 8:50 pm

Did Bill Self pay for the boob job??? That would really tie all of this together.

Hear me out: Bill Self starts an affair with a married school nurse because he likes the idea of her wearing the cute little nurse’s hat. To woo her, he buys her new boobies. After her surgery, she realizes she can do better than Bill Self and has a thing for Worcester guys like Coach Mulcahy, me, and Naadir Tharpe. So after I spurned her advances because I prefer guidance counselors to school nurses, she moved on and ends up hanging out with a pantsless Naadir Tharpe, who foolishly photographs himself with the nurse and her new boobs. Self sees the picture and completely loses his mind because he lost out on this girl to a pantsless Naadir Tharpe. Tharpe ends up off the team and playing for Pete Bell at Western University in two years.

      It all fits now.

xenophobia (noun)- fear of the unfamiliar. from greek “xenos” meaning strange; foreign and “phobos” meaning fear. this has nothing to do with xenophobia. turtleboy and naadir are cut from the same worcester cloth. therefore. not foreign.

      April 2, 2014 at 2:07 pm

The similarities hardly end there. I have seen Turtleboy wandering around without pants a hundred times at least. Like this one time in Baltimore when Turtleboy and one of his staff guys streaked the elevator just as it was closing and the people just saw Turtleboy’s naked ass run by. That was pretty awesome. Then one time this other girl on Martha’s Vineyard inexplicably got mooned, possibly by Turtleboy.

Also, Turtleboy likes to look at naked school nurses. Like this one time we had Nurse Klopper in school and Turtleboy used to spy on her while she was taking off her nurses outfit to pee. Also, since she was kind of a whore who passed out in her car, he would watch her change out of the Jack Daniels soaked clothes she wore the night before.

Then this one time Turtleboy took a massive dump in the corner of the St. Peter-Marian gym and got chased out by Father Flanigan. Naadir also did that this one time during his sophomore year, and that is the secret story of how he got thrown out of SPM. So you see, there is no xenophobia here, just a lot of similarities from two naked, dumping, nurse-touching Worcester knuckleheads.

Wow! Talk about a blogger unintentionally portraying himself as a xenophobic idiot.

    • April 1, 2014 at 10:28 pm

Do you understand what xenophobia is? I’m not even kidding though…like, this is as far from xenophobic as you can possibly get. Please seek help.

If this is really a family blog, then you would probably show a little outrage that somewhere in town his girlfriend and their two-week-old baby were spending the night without him. The disappointment from Self and Kansas is that this is just another knucklehead decision from a kid who has now spent multiple years putting together a string of such decisions both off the court and on.

I’m not sure what set the author off. No one I’ve heard in Kansas has expressed moral outrage. Surprise, yes. Shaking their head at how dumb those to were, yes, especially her. It’s more like WTF, Dude, this is just stupid–doing a selfie of yourself doing a school nurse AND sending it out. That’s an electronic ‘high five’ to his friends now heard ’round the world. He won’t have many ramifications, but she sure will. But in the end that’s their deal, I guess. It’s not moral outrage, but like it or not, he is a public figure and is to set an example, age notwithstanding.

The author’s own prejudicial view of Kansas is based on pure misconception. Oh sure, we have wing nut conservatives, and we acknowledge that, but the fact of the matter is the state population on average is itself fairly progressive and certainly much freer than Massachusetts in many ways. It offsets their message at home and largely keeps them in check. Get to know Kansas sometime. You will find it is many things you didn’t know. In fact, I’ll bet you didn’t know the state constitution not only preserves free speech, but goes further and actually preserves the pursuit of happiness in those words. (So I guess Tharpe got that part right.) It’s a concept that is something found in the Declaration of Independence, but not even the U.S. Constitution. When I was in college the people who came from the east coast an other places to go to school here didn’t go back there–not a one, they stayed here or went to states nearby for their job. That speaks volumes right there.

The other thing I would point out is no one is under the misconception this is about anything other than qualifying to play professional sports for a lot of these guys. The diatribe on the college end of it doesn’t hunt. If we agree on anything it is that charade should stop and college basketball should operate in two tiers where by a school either elects to operate with restrictions as a true academically inclined sports program, or opt into a form of pro system as a minor league farm team of the NBA under the college banner. Tier I teams would not play with Tier II, nor in a national tournament with them–which has driven a lot of this. Wouldn’t that be in the nature of the same recognition of what the Olympics ultimately did?

I live in Kansas too, and you couldn’t be more wrong. The vast majority of the population are waaaaay right wing, just look at election results. I spent 4 years on the West coast and moved back for family reasons, and it ain’t even close politically; don’t get me started on the racism. The only reason I’m on this site is because my neighbor told me how terrible the picture is, so I googled it.

All that said, he’s a college kid having a good time. Good for himSucks to be her husband though.

Like it or not, he is a role model… and role models have responsibilities to the kids and to the community. See how stupid that sounds? That is what some people really think.

Listen, I misplaced my pants once or twice in college. If you go to UMass, you will lose your pants. It’s simple Science. Tharpe is from Worcester, which is kind of the same thing, and he misplaced his pants. I think we should really be wondering about that school nurse having a boob job. Is she misappropriating school funds or selling cotton balls and tongue depressors on the black market? Is she charging kids to go to the school nurse and look at her fake boobies?
