Sad story out of Malden where a mother of seven was killed by her abusive boyfriend:

A Massachusetts man will be in court Thursday after the body of his 31-year-old girlfriend was found in their home. The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office said police received a call Wednesday morning for an unresponsive female at a Lebanon Street home. Police located the woman at the home and found her strangled to death. The victim has been identified by the district attorney’s office as Leah Penny. Her boyfriend, Ryan Power, has been charged with murder in connection with her death. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday. Friends said the victim had several children and was living in the home with Power, 32, of Malden. Police said Power left the house Tuesday night after an altercation with the victim. “I didn’t know the folks, but I have seen a lot of people there, like a lot of police activity,” Stanley Buonagurio said. “Like for months.”

Tragic story, but it gets a lot worse. Here’s 5 things to know about this shitbag who murdered the mother of his children.

1. She has six girls and one boy, and referred to Ryan Power has her “amazing boyfriend” on Facebook.

2. According to his Facebook Ryan Power was employed as a HVAC sheet metal installer.

3. He is originally from Malden, but met her in North Carolina where she is originally from. They moved back to Malden in 2015 and she has posted on Facebook about how she wishes she never left, largely due to financial troubles. In order to make money she tried selling baby clothes on Facebook yard sale pages.

4.  She was previously married, and according to her she was well taken care of when she was. However, since moving to Malden she frequently posts about needing help and the lack of family support.

5. She says she did not have a good relationship with her family, but she was close with Ryan Power’s mother, who was the one who discovered her body in her Malden home and attempted to perform CPR.

6. Despite what Leah posted about her family, her father Marty seemed to care for her. What appears to be Marty’s other daughter Carmin, died in 2014, and Leah commented on his Facebook post about her passing. They interacted friendly on his Facebook page, she supported the teams he coached, and he appears to be deeply devout.

7. Leah blamed herself for making Ryan Power upset, and blamed her daughter being taken from her as the cause of it. According to her posts, DCF was frequently involved in her life.

8. Friends from North Carolina say they had warned her about getting away from her abusive boyfriend, but that if she left him she feared she would have nowhere to go.  Ryan Power was arrested on May 30 for a domestic incident involving Leah Reynolds, before murdering her with a dog leash as she attempted to stop him from strangling her.

9. Ryan and Leah frequently joked about getting married on Facebook and carried on like they were in love.

10. The two youngest appear to have been living with them, and he is the father of both of them. The two kids were found upstairs in their cribs by Ryan’s mother. He carried on like a loving Dad on Facebook. Nothing is clear about where the other children are, but they are a lot older, and likely still reside in North Carolina.

Needless to say this whole thing is cryptic and disturbing. The poor woman obviously felt trapped and had no one to turn to. Many of her Facebook posts were a cry for help. But she, like many women before her, was caught in a never-ending cycle of physical and emotional abuse. So if you know someone who is in a situation similar to this, maybe share this blog with them and reach out to help before another tragedy strikes.

wow people need to get some real facts. Example #1 From North Carolina okay why come to MA? What was their past there that they came to MA and NO it was just because of His ties to MA. Example #2 She has Seven Children.. Only Two belonged to him.. Where are the fathers to the other FIVE kids? FIVE kids! and TWO have two under the age of 5..People what does that say about her vanity?. Example #3 Restraining order UMMmm didn’t they live in the same HOME at his MOTHERS house? REALLY… I am not saying she deserved what happened I am heartbroken for BOTH families ESPECIALLY the Children. Children are not even thought of in times like this. HOWEVER, from what I can tell she wasn’t a saint by any means and neither was him. But BOTH are to blame for this misfortune. NOT one over the other so PLEASE stop judging people for ONE sided facts. WE all know the media always takes the women said but this is something that CLEARLY screams they didn’t have a healthy relationship.

Leah and had I dated for a bit after she left Matt down here in nc. She was perfectly fine. But I had to move out of state for a few months for my job and when I came back she was gone. Couldn’t get a hold of her or anything. Then a couple of years ago I find her online and try to send a message on Facebook only to be told she was murdered by a piece of trash. I was heart broken to find that out. She only had one child when she was in nc.

You guys are so far off it’s a shame. She’s been one of my best friends since 3rd grade. Instead of going by social media posts, you should have all your facts correct. She didn’t blame herself, he wrote that post, not her. We all have the proof on that. Second… her family loved her unconditionally. Especially her parents & her siblings. She was an amazing mother and put those babies 1st above all else. RYAN POWER IS A SAD SICK LITTLE MAN AND I HOPE HE GETS NO PEACE EVER AGAIN. I HOPE HE NEVER SLEEPS AGAIN. I HOPE SOMEONE PUTS A DOG LEASH AROUND HIS NECK AND KILLS HIM TOO. TURTLEBOY… YOURE JUST AS SICK FOR POSTING THIS. #JusticeForLeah

Reading this article gave me the goosebumps. Domestic abuse is truly a vicious cycle and is so hard to get out of. Though it may seem easy to leave your abuser from an outsider’s point of view, this type of neglect really does “rewire” the brain into thinking you deserve nothing better. On average, people in a domestic abuse situation typically try to leave their abuser seven times before successfully leaving for good. But unfortunately, many of the abused don’t make it to see that day. If you are reading this and are currently involved in an abusive relationship, please realize that you deserve so, so much more than this. I am living proof – there is life after the cycle of abuse. I have been free of my abuser for almost four years and have never been happier. There were many occurrences, though, where I thought my abuser wouldn’t let me live to see daylight. Prayers and so much love for all involved.

Unfortunately, Massachusetts handles domestic violence terribly. If you’re a woman in MA being abused and you report it to anyone DCF immediately removes your children within 24 hour’s. Don’ get me wrong. No child should see violence, but the immediate DCF removal gives the victim no leverage in her struggle with the abuser. People are quick to blame police, but it’s not their fault either. The way the law is written they can only do so much. If you ask any law enforcement many of them know who in their area is being abused and are just as frustrated. There is a secret network set up that involves secret (as secret as online can get I guess ) that work with domestic violence victim’s. They work with law enforcement, biker’s and the other’s shall remain nameless. So yeah, that big scary tattooed guy on the Harley helps women and children (sans police)
Abuser’s isolate victim’s. They verbally and physically beat them down on a daily basis. It’s torture. I hope this story sheds some light on how often this happens. The abuser is usually the guy everyone love’s. The guy nobody expected. Praying for her children.

I am her mother and I assure you that I have been here for her unconditionally. I am grieving and you go from one side of the story and hurt a grieving mother and her children. I hope you are happy saying her family wasn’t here for her because I will spend the rest of my life here on earth missing her.

Very tragic and sad. I feel badly for her family and yet, thankful that her father has faith. I hope that will help him move through the days ahead and eventually find some sort of peace.
God be with her children and help them to grow and remember their Mom.
