Hey guess what happened today in Worcester? If you said a girl fight at North High, well, I guess I need to ask harder questions. Because that’s exactly what happened. Again. This reminded me of an act I saw this weekend at the Worcester Comedy Fest. One of the comedians used to be the in-house suspension teacher at Worcester South High School – Orlando Baxter. He did a bit on the lack of training teachers have in breaking up girl fights in particular:

That man right there is the next big thing. South High, Holy Cross grad. Worcester through and through. And he’s 100% correct too. What is a male teacher supposed to do when a girl fight happens? Because American girls simply don’t fight like Australian girls.

There are no rules when American girls fight. There’s really not much fighting at all. It’s just a bunch of hair-pulling and kicks to the ovaries. How is a male teacher at North supposed to handle that? Because guys might think twice before hitting a teacher. But girls? Girls aren’t wired that way. Every woman out there reading this has at one point in their life been on a mission where the strongest force of nature possible could not stop them.

Not only is it more dangerous to break up a girl fight, there’s also a million more liabilities. Sorry, it’s 2015. You don’t touch a female student while she’s in heat like that. Not if you value your job. Cops can do it. Not teachers though. They didn’t sign up for that.

That’s why it’s great that cops are finally gonna be patrolling the halls. Apparently according to some people that the Telegram interviewed, this is a bad thing though:

Sophomore Angel Soto, 18, said, in a word, the idea of police surveillance was “weird.”

“We’re just students and stuff, and having cameras all over the schools that are basically going directly to the police station is kind of weird,” he said. “What are we going to do in school? Kill somebody? That’s different. … We wanted security but damn, they’re like, enforcing all these things.”

Hold on, hold on. Back up a minute. Beep, beep, beep….

Did they just say 18 year old sophomore??!!! Did I read that correctly? So a grown man, who will IDEALLY be 20 years old when he graduates, doesn’t like the idea of police surveillance in school. Excellent. That’s all I needed to here. That means it’s already working.

My favorite part of the quote was this:

“We wanted security but damn, they’re like, enforcing all these things.”

Yes Angel. They are enforcing all these “things” called “rules.” I know, it’s weird. You’re not actually allowed to punch teachers in the face. Melinda Boone let it go, but the fun’s over now.

Then there was this gem:

Mr. Soto, with junior Johan Avreu, 17, and sophomore Hector Ramos, 16, said he has some concerns about the changes. Mr. Ramos said he feels with these new plans in place, he may not be able to speak with teachers or confront them verbally the way he’d like to. He said seeing several members of the Police Department inside the school Tuesday was unnerving, too.

“You can’t just stay quiet,” he said. “If you say something, (now) you’re going to be the bad one.”

Poor kid. Now that North has all these fancy “plans” he’s not going to be able to “confront teachers verbally the way he’d like.” Poor fucking kid. Really breaks my heart to read that. Because when I think back to school, one of the things I am glad I was allowed to do was confront my teachers verbally the way I’d like to.

Yes Hector, when you say “something” now, you would generally be considered the “bad one” if that “something” involves a verbal confrontation with a teacher. Because you may not realize this, but you’re not on the teacher’s level. They’re in charge. You’re not. You don’t get a say in anything. Ever. You don’t actually matter. I’m not quite sure where you got the impression that school is some sort of democracy where your opinions on discipline were at all relevant, but that’s not actually how schools are supposed to function.

Apparently though he “can’t just stay quiet.” Because students at North have the right to disrupt the learning environment as they see freely.

Outside the school Tuesday afternoon, Justis M. Colon, 14, said he questioned police using cameras to keep an eye on students inside the building.

“If I’m at school just talking to my friends, I don’t want a police officer to come stop me for no apparent reason,” he said. “It’s just dumb.”

See, that right there is the problem. This kid is 14 years old and he’s already been taught to distrust the police. That’s why cops in this school are a good thing. Justis is impressionable and has time to learn that the police are here to protect him by weeding out the bad guys. As long as Justis follows the rules of the school and the laws of our society the police will NEVER bother him for “no apparent reason.” Because right now he’s been led to believe by the Ferguson protesters, that young kids of color are arbitrarily harassed by the police for no reason. They’re not. Kids of all colors who break the rules and laws of society are the ones police go after.

Senior Leith Larson, 17, said this is exactly what he hoped for. He started a petition for students to support officer presence in schools on Jan. 23, when 599 students were absent from a school of about 1,350. Some students said they skipped because they heard a rumor someone planned to carry out a school shooting that day. Student Derrick Ayarza, 18, spread the word on Twitter that week and encouraged his friends not to show up, he said, to keep everyone safe.

Mr. Larson said he refuses to let the minority of students who fight at school interfere with his education. He’s the commanding officer of the school’s Junior ROTC group and plans to join the U.S. Navy after graduating. He said he wrapped up his petition on March 2, with 454 student and 80 teacher signatures in all.

“If we get the bad kids out, we could be a blue ribbon school,” he said. “It’s that 2 percent of (kids) that make it bad.”

I just wanna go on record to say that this kid is the man. He really is. Every time I read a story about North he’s like the official spokesperson for law and order. Ya got that? Law and order isn’t coming from principal Lisa Dyer or Melinda Boone. It’s coming from a high school senior who’s going into the Navy next year. Kids like this are all the proof you need that North High and the Worcester Public Schools in general, are filled with talented, hard-working students. They have a right to a safe and distraction-free learning environment.

And of course the ACLU had to chime in. They are after all, the most useless organization, led by local cop and teacher hater Chris Robarge:

Screen Shot 2015-03-05 at 12.48.43 AM

Here’s what he had to say:

“At the end of the day, it’s a school, not a juvenile detention center,” Mr. Robarge said. “That’s how prisons work.”

Yea, North High is just like a prison. Except kids aren’t locked in cells. They’re getting an education. They can wear what they want. And oh yea, they get to leave at 1:45. Besides that though it’s just like a prison.

But hey, if he feels like this is turning North High into a “prison,” then I’m sure once we can weed out the students who act like prisoners, we will stop treating North High like a “prison.” Everyone wins.

Mr. Robarge, who is based in Worcester, said a study conducted by the ACLU shows police presence in schools does not reduce crime.

So an incompetent and biased organization that has an axe to grind with police, did a “study” that ended up showing that police presence doesn’t reduce crime? Shocking verdict. Perhaps it’s because when police are in schools they actually break up fights and force schools to record the suspensions, instead of fudging the stats like Melinda Boone does? No, that can’t be it.

In Springfield, he said, the ACLU found arrests of teenagers at schools increased for minor offenses like disrupting school assembly.

Oh look, an arbitrary anecdote he didn’t source and thus didn’t allow us to find out the whole story about. Must be accurate. Don’t you guys have some pedophiles or panhandlers that need help filing a lawsuit somewhere?

Mr. Robarge said the lesson young adults may take away from this move at North High is also disconcerting.

“I think people should really think about what we’re teaching kids if we’re sending them to school every day and demonstrating to them they have no right to privacy, and they should be OK with that, that they should be under surveillance by police at all times, and they should be OK with that,” he said. “I don’t think many people want to be under surveillance all the time and I don’t think it’s a precedent we should be setting for the vast majority of those people who are doing nothing wrong.”

Newsflash – this is a PUBLIC school. You do not have a right to privacy in a public setting. That’s why it’s public. You do have a right to privacy while you’re taking a dump during 4th period though. There won’t be any cameras in there. But no, you won’t be allowed to sell drugs while the teachers are all in the classrooms doing their jobs. It’s gonna be rough, but hopefully your thriving empire can sustain this minor inconvenience Diego!!

It’s funny that NOW the ACLU is suddenly concerned about civil liberties in schools. Because they were SILENT when it came to teachers being forced to pay $55 to be fingerprinted in order to prove they’re not interstate child molesters. Remember his reason why:

Screen Shot 2015-02-15 at 4.42.21 PM

So let me get this straight. You don’t have the manpower or time to help teachers fight for their civil liberties. But you have PLENTY of time to make sure schools are unable to keep teachers and students safe? Gotcha.

Our boy Leith Larson had the final word:

Mr. Larson said from here, he plans to work with the School Committee to create more consequences for students who break student handbook rules. He said he’s arguing for greater penalties for those who, for example, don’t follow the dress code or for those who curse at teachers. He’d also like to see more suspensions.

This kid a Goddamn winner I’ve ever seen one. How sad is it that a grown man like Chris Robarge is opposed to safety procedures and is standing up for kids who wanna create anarchy, while the STUDENT is the one who wants real discipline? That tells you everything you need to know about the ACLU. They simply couldn’t care less about good kids like Leith because their primary concern is making sure criminals don’t have their “rights” violated.

Keep doing you Chris Robarge.

First of all I would like to congratulate the author of this article for this spectacular effort in obtaining his high school education:
“…who will IDEALLY be 20 years old when he graduates, doesn’t like the idea of police surveillance in school. Excellent. That’s all I needed to here. ”

The word you needed to use there was “hear” not “here” for anyone that missed it.

It would make you look a lot better if you used the correct word when you write an article about public education.

Second of all, the ACLU is a very respectful organization that fights for some very important issues, I’m sure things you would agree with if you’re a law abiding citizen. So you come across as a little close minded if you’re going to call out the entire organization based on this one issue that you don’t agree with.

I know this is not supposed to be a professional blog, but when you call out someone for not providing context and then you do the EXACT same thing two paragraphs down, it doesn’t do much to support your case.

Here I am talking about that facebook chat snippet you provided with no context to what you asked.

its not one issue. Its many, NAMBLA, removing the ratings from movies, founder Roger Baldwin said on the founding of the ACLU “Communism, of course, is the goal.”, you allow racists who promote racial division and hold one race superior to others (Baldino), NEVER backs the 2nd amendment but claims to defend ALL CIVIL RIGHTS, should lose its non-profit status as its blatantly obvious they are trying to influence law and gov actions, pro-flag burning, the constant definition changing of words to make them appear racist (boy, uppity, Mondays, now even today in our local TnG your moronic sheep are saying Jive is racist now too, cmon!), reverse racism (affirmative action), ect…

Its the extreme hypocrisy of the ACLU that bothers me. “Cops aren’t the answer to stopping law breakers”. Stop it.

“minorities cant be racist” Are you shitting me?

Take a look at your own “leadership” currently and recently and explain to me why the ACLU is frowned upon even here in solid blue MA.

You would expect an 18 year old sophomore not to understand that if the environment there doesn’t change that, yes, someone may be killed when a gangbaning student pulls and knife or gun to show how much of a tough guy they are. Also video surviellance isn’t exactly “weird”, you’re on camera pretty much everywhere. Welcome to 2015.

Roberge is competely out of touch. The 4th Amendment prevents unreasonable searches and seizures. Video surveillance in a public school is no more intrusive than a courthouse, city hall, or other government building. And if there is a spike in arrests at schools with officers that means they are doing the job people like Roberge complain they are overpaid for and accuse them of not doing, that is charge people with crimes and not broom them to make it appear as if there is no problem (like schools love to do).

The study I referenced in the Telegram article is right here:

    http://aclum.org/arrested_futures

The fight happened on the first day there was additional police officers at North, by the way.

Isn’t it amazing that this one was reported instead of getting swept under the rug? Like the fights that injured all four vice principals.

Maybe now these violent little shits will get tossed in jail where they belong, instead of being sent back to class to terrorize the good kids.

heres a crazy thought. Dont break the law (major or minor) and you have nothing to worry about. Crazy, I know.

For some reason, my nice long explanation didn’t post, but the summary is that your study is garbage. If your stated assumption is that all arrests are bad, just ’cause, then sure, police in schools are bad. If your assumption is that the purpose of school is to provide an education for the average student, rather than just keep the bad kids from graduating (let’s just hand out diplomas because, hey, everybody gets a diploma), your entire study is revealed as garbage.

Is this the same ACLU who supports men who molest young boys (NAMBLA)? Yea, nuff said.
