The Pablo Sandoval era is over in Boston.
Sandoval was informed Friday that he has been designated for assignment, the Red Sox announced. The move effectively terminates one of the worst free-agent signings in franchise history, although the Red Sox still owe the 30-year-old third baseman approximately $49 million through the end of the 2019 season.
Boston has 10 days to either trade or release Sandoval.
“I thank the Boston Red Sox for the opportunity and I remain positive that with the love and support of my family I will continue on with my career,” Sandoval told ESPN’s Marly Rivera.
Sandoval said he is currently in Miami, where he will remain training and working out, preparing for the next step in his career.
Working out in Miami? or eating grouper like its going out of style? take your pick.
REJOICE RED SOX FANS! One of the worst contracts ever to be signed in baseball history has FINALLY ended. The Red Sox have designated Pablo Sandoval for assignment giving them 10 days to either trade/release this fupa beast.
If you think i am overreacting by saying Pablo Sandoval was one of the worst signings then take a look:

For now, Pablo Sandoval's contract includes the second largest sum of dead money in @MLB history, after Josh Hamilton ($68.4 million).

If you were worse than Will Middlebrooks, that’s how you know you’ve overstayed your welcome in Boston. Even though this nightmare is finally over… he will still be owed the contract he signed. Yes, just like when he was playing, he will be paid to sit on his ass and eat entire an grocery store. Think about this… he was just as bad as Josh Hamilton going to the Angels… Who WAS ON COKE. Cue The Stephen A Smith reaction….

I am literally so happy I do not have to see this clown wearing the great Red Sox uniform anymore. Now he can go back to sitting on the shitter, flicking through his Instagram looking for a poor girl to hit on.
In the grand scheme of things, the Red Sox have signed some shitty contracts. They signed Carl Crawford to a 7 year $142M deal, they signed Sandoval to a 5 year $95M deal, and people also forget they signed Rusney Castillo to a 7 year $72M deal. The Red Sox are about as reckless with money as Shia Labeouf is with his life.
Here are some highlights in remembrance of the Fat Pablo era:
