ABC Action NewsA potential child abuse charge has been sent to the State Attorney’s Office for a Highlands county mother after she posted a video to Facebook showing her 1-year-old daughter being bitten by a red rat snake. The video has since been taken down, but Chartelle St. Laurent exclusively told ABC Action News that she does not regret putting her baby face-to-face with the snake. She found the snake in the driveway of the family’s property outside of Sebring. “It had bitten me and my son and didn’t leave a mark, several times,” she said. “So, I thought it was a good opportunity to introduce her without actually getting hurt.”

Highlands County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident and determined purposely exposing the 1-year-old to the snake violates Florida’s child abuse law.  “There’s always ways to teach your children lessons and this just did not seem like a good way to teach your child,” said Scott Dressel with the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office.

“People are too sensitive,” she said. “They just think that I hurt my child intentionally. The people that know me know that I would never hurt my children.” She says the child was not hurt, only scared of the snake’s quick strike.  “His teeth are too small to actually puncture the skin,” St. Laurent told ABC Action News reporter Ryan Smith. “So he’s very harmless.” Living on a rural, 9-acre property in Highlands County, she says it’s important that her kids learn how to handle all kinds of wildlife and what to stay away from.

If you know the news is coming to your house to interview you about why you let a snake bit your one year old baby, you should probably not wear the XXL Eric Cartman “respect my authority” t-shirt:

Generally speaking, people who choose to wear shirts like that when they know they’re going on television aren’t the greatest parents in the world. Just sayin.

The most insane part about this story is how Mom was so confident that no one would see anything wrong with this that she posted it on Facebook. Generally when I post Facebook videos or pictures of my kids it’s because they did something cute. Then like any normal parent I anxiously wait and take notes on who did and did not like it. Then I make sure to like their baby pictures too because I feel like I owe them one.

But this? Yea, this ain’t something you put on Facebook unless you wanna end up on Turtleboy. As dumb as this was on her part, she at least had the brains to get rid of her Facebook afterwards and ask the news to blur out her face. We would’ve likely had a field day with her Facebook page.

Gotta love her rationale though – the kid had to learn not to get too close to snakes. Can’t wait until she teaches the child about the dangerousness of guns. What’s her plan gonna be? Let the kid shoot themselves so they can learn a lesson? Hilarious. Or how bout she teaches the baby about inertia by letting her ride shotgun with no seatbelt on? Teaching the baby about the dangers of going near the deep end or getting too close to alligators also sound like very, very effective parenting.

Newsflash Chartelle – a one year old isn’t going to learn a lesson from this. I know this because I’ve raised a couple. You would think Turtleboy Jr. would’ve learned that trying to pull himself up onto his high chair by himself is a bad strategy the first time he ended up pulling it down on him. But you’d be wrong, because this dense mother fucker had to be told not to do it every day thereafter. That’s the thing about one year olds – they’re not very smart. They are inclined to do things that will bring them maximum pain. It’s our job as parents to constantly make sure their multiple attempts at suicide are thwarted throughout the day.

Gotta love this too:

“People are too sensitive.”

LOL. She’s playing the “pussification of America” card. That’s the most overused card after the race card. It used to be a great thing where we could make fun of oversensitive snowflakes. Now nudniks like this use it to try to justify intentionally hurting their own children, and it no longer has any meaning.

The fucked up part about the video is the way this dolt started laughing while the kid was crying. I don’t care if it didn’t hurt. It’s the fact that you have a one year old who is obviously scared shitless, and the only thing you can do is laugh about. That’s Florida parenting 101. And the rest of civilized society frowns upon it.

P.S. How badly do we need a Florida Turtleboy? I feel like Florida and Turtleboy are a match made in heaven.

My Ol’ Man let me touch the pretty red embers in the hibachi when I was a kid.
I did it once and learned a lesson, but I wasn’t one.
Someone needs to take a whiffleball bat and give this dumbass a few stingers.

Hope the kid hasn’t learned about mouse traps with her parenting style.
