Seeing a lot of this going on on the Facebook machine:

First of all, anyone who has ever shared anything from the Occupy Democrats Facebook page is a moron. It’s not even a page for democrats. It’s a page for protesters and morons. Believe it or not there are millions of wicked smart democrats out there. Many of them even understand why we have an electoral college. So allow me to explain to you idiots what most 7th grade social studies student already fully comprehend.

The United STATES of America is a collection of fifty separate states. We are not China, or Canada, or France. We are a group of United STATES. Each state has its own separate and unique interests and governments that citizens of those states pay taxes to. The people of Iowa are going to be far more concerned with farm subsidies than people in Rhode Island.

On election night each STATE hold it’s own independent election for President. Every state then uses the popular vote of their state to decide who the winner is. That winner then is given a proportional amount of electoral votes, depending on the relative population of that state.

So…..we already have a popular vote. Massachusetts had a presidential election. We all voted. Hillary Clinton won. But 30 states voted for the other guy, so she didn’t win.

Popular vote is nothing more than mob rule. That’s why our brilliant founding fathers created the system we have now. Because they don’t trust the mob. They also didn’t want to see a situation where 49.9% of the people were ruled by 50.1%.

Most importantly, they didn’t want to see people in rural areas be ignored by the federal government. And that’s exactly what would happen with a popular vote. Campaigning would only take place in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and other metropolitan areas. Meanwhile the part of the country that feeds us and provides us with a disproportionate amount of medal of honor recipients, would be ignored. Why bother campaigning in a state Nevada or New Hampshire? They wouldn’t matter.

The best part about this is that if Trump had won the popular vote and lost the electoral college (which some predicted would happen) you wouldn’t hear any of these idiots whining about the EC. They’re just mad that their team lost and now they’re throwing a hissy fit and trying to change the rules. In other words, they are Colts fans. This is what they do every single year to the Patriots after we beat them. Change the rules because it’s not fair that they lost.

Speaking of the Patriots, here’s an analogy. The 2007 Patriots went 18-1. They had more wins than any other team. They had something like 100 more points than the closest team. They were clearly the best team in football. Does that mean they should be Super Bowl Champions? Of course not. They lost the only thing that mattered. If were whiny little bitches like George Takei then we’d petition the NFL to make the champion whatever team scored the most points that season. But we’re adults so we take the L and move on with our lives.

Anyway, adults understand how this works. Others….not so much:

screen-shot-2016-11-10-at-2-02-53-pm

Yea, this has happened four times in American history. You know who didn’t bitch and whine about it? Samuel Tilden. Because he wasn’t a gigantic naniburger who couldn’t take the L and move on with his life.

screen-shot-2016-11-10-at-2-18-07-pm

A petition!! Yea, that should fix everything!! Hey, here’s an idea – call up your local congressman and urge them to petition to amend the constitution in order to enact a popular vote for president. Ya know, because they can actually change this. Your meaningless petition will be forgotten about in a day or two once you come to terms with the fact that President-elect Donald Trump is now the President.

screen-shot-2016-11-10-at-2-19-47-pm

Actually we fought a war with Britain specifically because we wanted to create the system that we have in place. We learned this in school. Of course you wouldn’t know that because you were too busy not finding a date to the prom.

screen-shot-2016-11-10-at-2-20-01-pm

My candidate lost. Therefore it’s outdated.

screen-shot-2016-11-10-at-2-20-09-pm

But they’re not tallying up every vote cast. The popular vote is just a cool little side fact. It’s irrelevant, and anyone who pays attention to it is a moron with two first names.

Anyway, the electoral college is awesome. It makes election night so much more exciting too. I love the whole state by state thing and watching John King make them turn different colors with his magical index finger. The bottom line is people just need to stop being little bitches and accept the fact that the system worked and their candidate lost.

Just when I thought you couldn’t be more autistic…

Vegas and California may not have existed, but Boston, New York, and Philadelphia certainly did. And the more populous areas would overwhelm the less populous if we went solely by popular vote regardless of the size of the country.

I’d tell you to read a history book, but you’re probably not sure what a book is.

Southern New England, New York City and its suburbs, Eastern Pennsylvania, Chicago, Las Vegas, southern California, Miami, Dallas, Austin, and Houston.

Half of the population lives in the area I just listed.

THAT is why we have an electoral college.

Hey Paul, stop believing your a man of intelligence your a legend in your own mind similar to Trump. We get it you uncover and read and write back on Right wing views. Here’s an idea actually read a little more and stay well rounded. Your argument that as teen she followed Goldwater and then changed. Guess what genius your Trump was a Democrat and said Hillary would make a great President just a few years ago. President Clinton was never convicted of sexual crimes just accused just like Donald. As for your Military views, I love how you adore a man who had his Dad get him out of fighting in Nam due to Bone spurs a medical deferment a typical coward turned tough guy later in life like VP Cheney. He called out McCain as not a hero and any POW not a hero if they get caught. Great moral compass there. Your not only bias but also delusional. If there’s any embarrassment it’s a veteran that does not call this out.

I don’t think neither candidate is qualified to be president. Even on my way to the polls I was still in disbelief that these were who I had to choose from. Hillary should be in jail and trump will turn being the President into a reality show where he’s slapping the maids asses. Just a disgrace—Both of them.

But Trump isn’t a rapist like Bill, who was defended totally by Hillary. By the way, Chelsea looks a lot more like Webb than like Bill. Remember Juanita Broderick? Hillary was a Goldwater Girl and a couple of years later she became a Saul Alinsky Girl. No moral anchor there. By the way, her private server was hacked by at least 5 different governments, including the Russians, according to Democrats regarding her emails. If she had been in the military, she would have been thrown in the brig or faced a firing squad. Hillary is a traitor to this nation. And she calls half of Trump’s Republicans “deplorable”. How does writing off 25% of the nation’s population make us “stronger together”?

What that faggot Takei and all the Democrats miss when they reference the popular vote is that the United States is not and never was a democracy. A popular vote would make sense if we were. We are a representative republic. That’s why we have three branches of government and the electoral college. It spreads the power away from the population centers and equalizes it as best as possible across the whole nation. We are the only one using this system as far as I know.

As a result we do have problems, it’s not perfect, but it has worked successfully throughout our history. Of course the Democrats won’t admit this, unless it is to their benefit…

Explaining the system won’t stop these idiots from having their stupid riots. There are only a few things that could possibly stop these rabid morons.

    1. The current PRESIDENT could man up and give a speech telling them to go home.

    2. Hillary could sack up and tell them to go home. (let’s be honest they blindly do what she says).

    3. Apple could release the next I-phone early. (These idiots flock to Apple stores for the latest gadget that is really the same as the last one).

    4. Free shit! Have a truck with a megaphone playing (follow the truck for free Obama phones) and Pied Piper them away.

    PaPul,

We succeeded in getting Christians to the polls, but that doesn’t mean we should rest on our laurels. We’ve demonstrated the power of our vote, and now is the time to wield our influence.

Ultimately, our work does not end with an election. It merely begins.

I thank you for your incredible support and participation, and look forward to working with you as we begin our very important next chapter.

    Sincerely,

Democrat LBJ told other Southern Democrats regarding the 1965 Voting Rights Law that he had just signed as President: “Now I want to tell you something else. If I were still the senator from the great state of Texas, I would have voted against this goddamn bill, too.”

Quoted from “Capitol Hill In Black and White” page 191, 1986, by Robert Parker, the black former maître d’ of the Senate Dining Room.

Getting rid of the EC would take a Constitutional amendment ratified by the States. Not going to happen. Live with it.

Based on the latest totals I found just now on Google:

Trump got 47.454% of the PV
    Clinton got 47.693%.

That is a difference of 0.239%, in favor of Clinton.

When you have over 120 million votes cast this is statistically insignificant.

Another point that seems to be forgotten is that all the states needed to affirmatively vote to join the union. The only way a small state would ever agree to join is if they were not simply out voted by population from the get go. “Hey come join our club…you are out numbered 10-1 and no one will ever care what you think, but it’s still a good deal for you.” Wasn’t going to work.

Absolutely correct TB. These mental midgets just can’t fathom the genius of the men that designed this republic. It is set up to deter the chances of dictatorship, or one political faction having absolute power and control. Checks and balances are fine with them when the democrats were in charge. Remember all the republicans rioting the first two years of the Obama presidency when they also held the House and Senate? Me either. The founding fathers wanted government to do as little as necessary. Why? Because they fuck up most everything they touch.

I’m so glad that you wrote this article, TB. I’ve been getting frustrated with folks in the office and online complaining about the popular vote. The long and short of it is that MOST of the time, the popular vote and electoral victory/loss usually match up with each other in terms of the winner/loser. Removing the Electoral College would essentially allow candidates to just campaign up and down the costs and in large metropolitan areas. Large swaths of the country would be ignored, and smaller states would lose their sovereignty. Seriously, who would ever travel to Iowa if they didn’t have to? What sells in California is different than what sells in Alabama, Iowa, etc. And that’s what makes this country great-it’s diverse population. Each state is allowed a modicum of independence on how it govern’s its citizens, and only citizens of that state are allowed to vote on internal state policy. It’s a wonderful thing, and that is what has made this the most successful democracy in history. While I didn’t vote for Trump, I concede he won fair and square, and was able to patch together an impressive coalition of states that represent large and diverse populations of our country.

Besides, the Dems have been doing their own end around the electoral process by packing the cities with their most reliable voting base – poor minorities. Modern day slave plantations.

Gerrymandering congressional districts to favor their candidates. Take a look at McGovern’s district on a map – then tell me how the fix isn’t in for a Democrat to win that 100% of the time.

Biggest reason Trump won the election? DEMOCRATS!

You made the comment that people learned about the electoral college and its purpose in 7th grade. I’m not so sure that’s true anymore. They may have learned the basics of it, but I think it’s highly unlikely they were taught the true rationale behind it. They were too busy learning about the evils of white colonialism and how all the terrible things in the world can be traced back to those terrible founding fathers.

Exactly. Teaching the 3 R’s, History, Science, etc is pretty much over by 6th grade. After that, it’s the “new” math, revisionist history, and science dominated by climate change and other faux “science”. Pretty much just liberal indoctrination after that. The deliberate dumbing down and brainwashing of our children. The last few decades of this approach is now bearing fruit with all the snowflakes and their education/indoctrination industry enablers.
