WCVB: A woman performing the national anthem prior to an NBA preseason game in Miami did so while kneeling at midcourt. Denasia Lawrence opened her jacket just before she started to sing, revealing a “Black Lives Matter” shirt, then dropped to her left knee and performed the song. She said it was her way of protesting racial oppression.

“We’re being unjustly killed and overly criminalized,” Lawrence wrote early Saturday in a Facebook post. “I took the opportunity to sing and kneel to show that we belong in this country and that we have the right to respectfully protest injustices against us.”

Miami Heat officials said they had no advance knowledge of Lawrence’s plan to protest. Lawrence, a social worker, kept the shirt hidden until her performance.

“I didn’t get paid to sing the national anthem nor was this moment about any sort of fame,” Lawrence wrote. “Black Lives Matter is far larger than a hashtag, it’s a rallying cry.”

Heat players and coaches stood side-by-side for the anthem prior to their game with Philadelphia, all with their arms linked as has been their custom during the preseason. The team plans to continue standing that way for the anthem this season as a show of unity.

“Throughout all of this, I think the most important thing that has come out is the very poignant, thoughtful dialogue,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “We’ve had great dialogue within our walls here and hopefully this will lead to action.”

The NBA has a rule calling for players and coaches to stand during the anthem.

“All I can say is what we’ve seen in multiple preseason games so far is our players standing for the national anthem,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Friday in New York. “It would be my hope that they would continue to stand for the national anthem. I think that is the appropriate thing to do.”

There’s literally nothing dumber than protesting what you believe the National Anthem stands for while singing the National Anthem. You know what a great way to protest the National Anthem would be? Stop singing it. Or even get out there and yell, “Fuck this racist ass country. I’m not singing your stupid song as long cops keep shooting people who resist arrest and try to hurt them.” Even though we would criticize the hell out of her for it, at least that would make sense.

But this? This is just meaningless. They’re not changing anything. The only reason they’re doing it is because it’s upsetting to the “Murica” crowd. They just like to piss off right wingers because right wingers tend to get butthurt whenever someone doesn’t follow flag etiquette. The whole concept of kneeling in the first place is meaningless. It had more value when Kaepernick was sitting down on the bench. Then some white guy came along and convinced him to kneel so he did what the white guy told him to do. But kneeling is a sign of reverence, so it’s really not even protesting. It’s just you trying to build your brand and make a name for yourself. That’s why this quote was hilarious:

“Nor was this moment about any sort of fame.”

LOL. Bullshit. Honey, you were singing at a preseason game no one was at between two shitty basketball teams. No one had any idea who you were before this. Now you’re a Shaun King BLM celebrity with a rich Google search profile.

What I find annoying is how the NBA teams are handling the National Anthem. They’re all linking arms and talking about showing a “sign of unity.” Did I miss something? Are we at war? It’s like we just got bombed by the Japanese or something. Lighten up everyone. America really isn’t that bad.

Don’t agree to sing the Anthem if you so clearly have disdain for the country, you asshole. Seems you wanted to PERFORM LIKE A STAR, but you also wanted to seek your “fame” by kneeling one out during the Anthem. Can’t have it both ways. Total hypocrite.

This person will have poor career prospects. Nobody will hire her to sing at their event, and the only organization that would hire her would be some type of SJW group or a diversity officer at some college or business that is under attack for not being diverse enough (which really means TOO MANY WHITES).

Perfect pose for an officer to come up behind her and execute her. Seriously, paint the court with her brains.

Why does it seem that everyone of the “victims” BLM sites turned out to have a gun and was not complying with the police. The NFL viewership is way down. Maybe the NBA will follow. Less viewers less money smaller contracts. Kneeling is so pathetically lame. Kaepernicjk, who many did not know even identified as black, got his few minutes and will be remember more for his misguided effort than any skill on the field. Everyone else is just lame, Message was lost since few cab even articulate message.

This is the issue to me-they are not protesting good hard working black Americans but stupid POS that weigh down society with there criminal activity and complete refusal to be anything other than stupid human beings.

Kind of makes you wonder what pool of idiots they pick from when they get someone to sing at these games.
She is famous now and will probably never be able to get hired. No one hires trouble makers.

I’d have had more respect for her of she’d gone out, cursed out whitey, and refused to sing. At least that would have been an actual protest. Instead she getsaid to be famous for looking like a fucking moron.
