Reader Email: Ok Turtleboy Sports if any one can appreciate the ridiculousness of the post I’m sending you it’s myself and the rest of Turtleboy fans… Our district (Ashburnham-Westminster) holds a ceremony for students who achieved highest honors (all A’s) for at least 6 of 8 middle school reports cards and only at least honors for the other two cards. It’s a private banquet so no other students are seeing these kids being honored, it’s not announced to the student body so no kids are being made to feel left out. I’d love you to see what one sour grapes mom posted and a bunch of other politically correct mommies jumped on board with….

So I guess this is at Overlook Middle School in Ashburnham, and of course it represents EVERYTHING that is wrong with America. Let’s look at all the ridiculous things that were said:

I can’t help but feel bad for kid who work hard each and everyday and NEVER get the recognition they deserve.”

No. Just no. If you did not get straight A’s, then you do not “deserve” any recognition. We don’t reward individuals for trying their best. Losers are always whining about their best. You know the rest…..

Some kids study, study, study, and work, work, work, and never will get straight A’s.

Yea, and? Welcome to life. Your kid can shoot free throws all day too, but it doesn’t mean he should be in the NBA. I’m sure there are lots of kids who give 100% and don’t get straight A’s. And that’s OK. But let’s be real here. For every kid out there who got a B on a report card there was SOMETHING they could have done to get an A. Because I guarantee all these kids who are allegedly working so hard can find the time to post meaningless things on Twitter and have time for extracurricular activities.

I don’t think that is fair.

Seriously? An adult actually wrote this on the Internet? That’s no fair? Sounds like Turtleboy Jr. when I tell him he can’t have any more pudding. I’ll tell you something Grandma Turtleboy told me, that I assumed every parent in America was supposed to tell their kids – life isn’t fair. Am I the only one who was told this a million times growing up? And just for the record, grading kids based on the same tests, quizzes, and homework is the definition of fair.

unpopular_opinion_puffin_meme-www.memegen.com

It makes me sad that kids that are “average” will not be part of a celebration that they deserve just as much.

This woman must be a Colts fan. No, they don’t deserve it just as much. Because it’s a celebration of excellence, not the mediocrity awards show. In America we don’t celebrate being average. They were not as good as the kids who got straight A’s, so they don’t get to go. If average kids got to go then it would be meaningless. But of course these are the same parents who have forced their kids coaches to give their precious children trophies for making sure the bench doesn’t fly away during soccer games.

I really think that the school system should revisit this.

Translation – I’m gonna be an annoying helicopter parent from this point forward until they eventually cave and hold an award’s ceremony for C students. I think the school should change the rules to the game because my kid didn’t get honored.

nHHAhwQ

In a world that talks so much about being politically correct, it saddens me that this hasn’t been thought about. Sad 🙁

Oh I see. So because the world around this woman has conformed to her demands for political correctness in every aspect of life thus far, the school should continue to cater to her butthurt. The only thing that’s “sad” about this, is that this ridiculous diatribe got 24 likes.

The best was this comment:

Look at the effort, not the grade. I agree.

Oh shut up already. How exactly is your kid’s teacher supposed to judge your precious little millennial’s effort? When he gets five questions wrong on his math test how is the teacher supposed to know that he tried his hardest? If the answer is wrong, then it’s wrong. Period. It doesn’t matter how hard you tried if you didn’t learn what you were supposed to. Because in school they don’t test you on things that aren’t covered in class or in the book. So at some point the questions that your kid is getting wrong were covered, but he or she didn’t learn it.

The problem is that these parents don’t understand what trying hard means. In their minds trying hard = amount of time spent on schoolwork. So many parents think that because junior stared at a book for three hours or copied some words out of a textbook that they tried their best. Think of when you were in school and you had social studies homework. Teacher tells you to read 10 pages and answer the 5 questions in the section review. What did you do? You read the first question and then scanned the 10 pages until you found the answer. Then you copied word for word what was in the text. But you didn’t learn anything. That’s what is happening here. These kids might be spending time on their schooling, which Mom then believes should be rewarded. But they’re spending their time ineffectively. It’s not the quantity of studying, it’s the quality.

The bottom line is that we are seeing all across college campuses how this nonsense manifests itself. Kids everywhere are being raised by loser parents who think they should be rewarded for being average. But this is not how things work in the real world. Companies don’t give bonuses for being average, the Celtics don’t get a parade for making the playoffs, and Keanu Reeves doesn’t win Oscars for Johnny Mnemonic. If you wanna be rewarded for mediocrity then move to Indianapolis. Winners only in New England.

P.S. I guess this is the downfall of being a teacher in the burbs. Worcester parents aren’t gonna post nonsense like this. I guess it’s a trade off. If you teach middle school in Ashburnham then you don’t have to deal with 16 year old 8th graders telling you go fuck yourself, but you do have to deal with entitled soccer Moms rallying against you on Facebook.

“No Child Left Behind” doesn’t mean “everybody gets a ceremony.”

In fact, if you believe my teacher friends, it means “kids get passed because it makes the school look good, even if the kid can’t actually read or do math.” They’ve told me about kids in their class that can barely speak English or read the materials for the class being taught because the lower grades have just pushed the kid along. There’s your ultimately participation trophy.

Rent out the Friendly’s for an ice cream social and don’t invite the straight A kids if you want a party.

This is reflective of the majority of Westminster parents, although lately Ashburnham has seen its share of carpetbagger helicopter soccer moms who need a job. My kids went to Overlook and were proud of their friends who achieved this honor even tho they did not

Leave politics out of this…if your entire stance on everything is that ‘all democrats are wrong and THAT’S what the problem is’ than you’re part of the problem.

I agree with Turtleboy blogs about 98% of the time and I am a “libtard”or whatever other bullshit name u wanna throw out there. I hate political correctness, loath SJWs, and despise incompetant parents, government leaches, people who are racist and terrorize the public about pretend racism, and far too many others groups that supposed “libs” are supposed to love so much (I just don’t want to keep thinking about things i dislike right now to continue my list.)

So, instead of wasting everyones time by sticking all of us normal democrats into the same group as these dinks, try to keep the politics out of the comments section. It’s just annoying and has absolutely NOTHING to do with the blog this time, or most other times. We’re supposed to be having a discussion about overtly PC dooshnozzles who shouldn’t be allowed to raise children…it’s kind of pathetic that was your only comment about this too…just blame it on the libs, right? what a dumb fuck.

Jon, I got your back bro seriously. Full disclosure – I was a registered Democrat since 18 years of age until early this spring. I am now unenrolled. I now believe to pick the person best suited for the job at the right time. No extreme left – no extreme right. It seems in life that the truth always lies somewhere in the middle somewhere minus extremism.

Unfortunately, it’s more partisanship that’s killing this country than it is liberalism or conservatism. That and the lack of any truly viable third parties.

So true and any kind of alternative would be refreshing. It’s getting all too weird out there these days with status quo. Far left no. Far right no. In any debate there in the middle somewhere lies the answer. I wish the world had this attitude. Then maybe we wouldn’t be fucking killing each other like it’s a fucking sport or something.

            May 16, 2016 at 4:59 pm

that’s what I’m saying. There is some serious disfunction in our political system right now, and in the masses too. More and more people are simply siding with their affiliation than actually looking at the bigger picture – more people are voting just to keep “the other guy” out of office than they are paying attention to the policies of “their” candidate.

The problem I’ve been noticing in the comments section greatly confirm that to be true. Not just from you (which I’ve only seen a few times) but from many others – depeding upon the political votality of tthe specific blog. At the same time, it is also true that progress can be made here – as we are currently discussing the matter; which needs to happen on a broader scale.

I appreciate all of the feedback to my comment, thanks gentleman.

        This is too easy.

I’ve been commenting here waaaaaay longer than you, newbie. I’ll leave the pathetic name calling to the libs like you. And I’ll leave the politics out of my comments when libs like you stop inserting it into every facet of our lives (ie – the subject of this blog). And I won’t suggest what you or anyone else should put in their comments – censorship is a liberal tactic. I’ll let you do your thing and I’ll do mine. A novel concept, right?

It really is pretty black and white. PC is ENTIRELY on libs and those who support their nonsense. What’s wrong with calling a spade a spade? Sorry if the truth hurts, but again – that’s what PC is about, right?
        Hiding the truth!

Class dismissed. And thanks for doing my job better than I could have done it myself.

One of many very funny lines from the movie, “Meet the Fockers”:

Jack Byrnes: I’m sorry. It’s just that I’ve never seen people celebrate mediocrity the way you do.

Roz Focker: Because we love our son? We hug our son? Let’s get down to it. The truth is, you’re so concerned about that Little Jack, but I think that it’s the Little Jack in you that is crying out for a hug.

Yes, let’s just cancel the Honors Ceremony, the Talent Show, heck, we might as well cancel graduation too cuz not everyone is going to graduate. I’m sure the teachers will be very happy, now there is a LOT less work for them to do.

Jesus! What in gods name is wrong with these parents?!? I am a frequent user of the term “life’s not fair” when my kids are whining about something and I hope to god his friends parents do too.

The other thing about this too is that the kids who didn’t get to go likely don’t give a rats ass. I highly doubt this lady’s kid came up to her crying about how they couldn’t go to the banquet. The kid didnt show the mom the pictures of the banquet either. This is some stupid lady who is feeling bad for HERSELF. She saw the pictutres that the parents of the kids who got straight A’s posted on facebook and because she obviously can’t take it that someone else’s kid is better than hers, she decides to post this ridiculous shit.

God help her kids…hopefully they realize their mom is a dumb cunt and don’t turn out like her.

I was always a smart kid in school but i sure as shit didn’t get straight A’s…because I didn’t try! I did homework in school, I never studied (except for SATs…a little), and tried to get away with the bare minimum required. Most of the time I got B’s, occassionally an A, and the “gift” of a D- in Spanish class. I most definitely never gave a shit that I didnt get to do the “special” things that the kids who busted their asses got to do – because I had NO DESIRE to bust my ass like they did!!! And for the few kids who had legitimate learning issues, they had accepted the fact that they were never going to get straight A’s a LONG time ago. Those kids set their own bar lower, as did their parents, teachers, and peers…that’s the way the world works people. Get the fuck over it!

  • NoodelyAppendage
    May 14, 2016 at 1:30 pm

If they held a banquet for average grades at my kid’s school, and they got average grades, I would bar my child from going. Why? Because I don’t reward mediocrity. When my child does something to merit recognition you bet your sweet bippy they get it, but for average grades? Hell no. I know they are capable of getting good grades and if they don’t, again no reward.

Is she talking about special needs children? I’m talking about the ones who need remedial help but are intelligent and could get good grades if it wasn’t for a learning disability? Ummmm guess what? It is possible for people with learning disabilities to get As too. It just takes more work.

    No rewards for mediocrity!

My 6th grade son is on the Autism Spectrum, has moderate learning disabilities, anxiety and many other issues and has made honor roll every quarter so far this school yr. He has missed high honors (gets a B+ in math) each quarter. 4th Q grade in Math is now A (95 average). He is in a regular classroom and takes the same classes as all other 6th graders (he has a twin that achieves high honors as well). We are amazed at his work ethic (he spends twice as much time getting homework completed than his brother) and how well he is excelling in school. His academic achievement far exceeds all of ours and the teachers expectations and we are so very proud of him. This has been 100% on him. Just proves that if you want something bad enough you have to go out, work hard and get it on your own. Both my children play sports and fully understand the concept of working hard to achieve your goals….coming in last or losing a game is not rewarded.
Our school has a quarterly awards assembly and honor roll students receive certificates, and additional incentives like: certificates to attend Celtics games, gift cards and the like that business donate for our honor roll program.

Good on you, mom of 2 middle schoolers for instilling that work ethic in your kids early on. It’s 100% on him, now, but it sounds like you did something right to get him where he is

  • Wow.
    May 14, 2016 at 12:42 pm

Wait- so is she saying that my child who sucks at sports should be recognized at a sports banquet? Or the other that just took the SATs should have points added because she tried really hard? Should they be invited to select state chorus events because they really love singing and try to hit the right notes….even if that doesn’t always happen? We have to teach our children RESILIENCE, or they will become discouraged and give up every time they hit a bump in life.

PS there is a ceremony for everyone that makes it and that is called graduation, asshat.

NEWSFLASH: there are winners and losers in life, you choose by your actions. Pathetic parents teaching the next generation how NOT to succeed in life. Give those parents a participation trophy and a hankie for their tears please!
