Ashley Madison Website For Cheating Spouses Is Hacked, First Name Revealed Is From Brockton

Add another Brockton resident to the long list of champions that make up the “City of Champions”, as a Brocktonite has defied 37 million to one odds and has been outed as the first cheating spouse revealed by the hackers of the notorious website Ashleymadison.com.  For those unfamiliar with this site, it is essentially a playground for philandering husbands and wives to find a like-minded married partner to cheat on their spouses with.  This controversial website has long been accused of destroying families, ruining lives, and encouraging otherwise loyal husbands and wives to explore their fantasies by cheating on their loved ones.  In fact, Ashley Madison’s slogan is “Life is short. Have an affair.”

The Brockton resident’s name is going to be revealed this week, “pending confirmation”. Oh boy.

Along with the names of a staggering 37 million members, the hackers also have obtained other information about the infidels, including their addresses, phone numbers, emails, financial information and even worse, their personal sexual fantasies.  Man this could get ugly!

The hackers left an entire “manifesto” on the Ashley Madison website, where they accuse the site of “preying on people’s misery” and also reveal that the site’s parent company, Avid Life Media, was lying when they claimed that “for a $19 fee, they would scrub all personal data out of their records”.  Looks like that data wasn’t “scrubbed out” after all!

I feel like this situation begs us to ask this question –  who is more to blame in this fiasco? The scummy website for creating this monstrosity where families get ruined, lives get destroyed, kids end up being raised in broken homes, childhoods become derailed all for a little piece on the side? Or are the members who pay their money knowingly intending to cheat on their loved ones more to blame? Would these people be cheating in the first place if this site that made it so easy to be unfaithful didn’t exist? It’s a slippery slope.

One thing that can’t be denied is the remarkable success that Ashleymadison.com has had.  They even went so far as to twice intending to shell out several million dollars to air a Super Bowl commercial, but of course was denied.

Either way, when the names, addresses and fantasies of 37 million cheating husbands and wives get blown up in the coming days, you best believe that the shit will hit the fan worldwide in a hurry. Sadly, aside from getting a few laughs, revealing the list of members will also create a lot of single parents and broken homes.

I thought that the website was just ploy to steal credit card information. I didn’t believe it actually provided that service. Does that make me more naive or more cynical?
