Bonnies Fans Rush Court Early After Beating UMass, Time To Bring Back the Cage

It didn’t dawn on me how legit UMass basketball has become until our first two Atlantic 10 losses this year at Richmond, and again on Wednesday at St. Bonaventure when their fans rushed the floor. Well, at least against the Spiders they waited until the end of the game. Here’s what happened against the Bonnies:

Newsflash to all of you Bonnies idiots up there in Buffalo: you were 2 point favorites. You were SUPPOSED to win. You don’t rush the floor against teams you’re SUPPOSED to beat.

I really had no opinion about St. Bonaventure fans until recently. I mean, who gives a shit about a school of ZERO relevance? Now I can say with absolute certainty that I hate them. First of all, who the hell is St. Bonaventure? I realize I could google him (or her?), but if I don’t know which saint you are immediately, you have a crappy name. Secondly, your school colors are Brown. Just Brown. You are the color of poop. Next, you haven’t figured out that when you tape something using your iPhone and you don’t hold the iPhone horizontally, you are being a complete a**hole:

Look, I’m sure you idiots cried yourself to sleep after your boys in poop blew a 13 point lead in the final nine minutes earlier this month in Amherst….

but if you’re gonna storm the court, try to wait until the game is actually over.

A lot of people are complaining about the St. Bonnies fans being too close to the players. I’ve never been there, but it looks like a pretty hard place to play…

massachusetts-st-bonaventure-basketball-10909784c41970acjpg-eead08a932823096

But I don’t blame the fans at all. They created the atmosphere which made it extremely difficult for UMass to win. They didn’t build the arena like that, and even if they did, I would praise them for it. It’s genius. More arenas should be built like this. You’re trying to win the game, not give your fans comfort. I will however say this – Clyde Santee should’ve Ron Artested their asses. The security guard with an ear piece obviously isn’t going to a damn thing, as he aimlessly stares into space with his arms by his side like a freaking nutcracker.

Look, this is Buffalo people. BUFFALO!!! One of those nudniks in the picture is wearing a Bills jersey. Do you understand the animals that live in Buffalo? It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Try it sometime and then you’ll realize that this is just WEDNESDAY Buffalo behavior. Wait until you see them on the weekend after yet another Bills blowout loss to the Patriots. It will make Jets fans seem like alter boys. Social progress and political correctness do not exist in that God forsaken post industrial cesspool in upstate New York. If you like being freely called a “f*g*ot” by young children and their mothers, and being reminded that Tom Brady has engaged in homosexual activities more times than the Buffalo schools require you to count to in order to graduate from high school, then you’ll love Buffalo.

tumblr_le3f6hyzrP1qclcbeo1_500

Pretty simple solution to this people – next time the Bonnies come to Amherst, we play in the Cage. Picture the madness of people lining up for the limited 4,000 tickets to get in. Just thinking about it gives Minutemen fans everywhere a Curry-Hicks pants tent.

Luckily for St. Bonnies the refs and security checked out a long time ago. I didn’t get to watch it on TV on account of NESN and CSN have no interest in broadcasting a nationally ranked local team, but the box score and pictures tell me all I need to know. One would think the #19 team in the country would get some favorable calls in their favor. This season’s reefing of course has been an absolute disgrace. It’s like, NBA bad.

  • St. Bonnies shot 34 free throws. UMass shot 15. They scored 30 points from the charity stripe in a game that they won by 13.
  • UMass best two players (Chaz Williams and Maxie Esho) both fouled out. Esho played a whopping 17 minutes. Hard to win a game when your All-American is stuck on the bench by overzealous, hometown referees.

Besides that this one was entirely on the Minutemen. They need to get their shit together.

  • For starters, Derek Gordon shouldn’t be a starter. He’s bordering on suck right now. He’s six foot, but he shoots like a 300 pounder. Last night he was 1 for 6 for a grand total of two points. Trey Davis scored 18 off the bench. Derek Kellogg starting DG over Davis is indefensible at this point.
  • Chaz needs to start putting this team on his back and taking shit over at the beginning of games. He kind of sucks in the first half of games it seems. He wants to be a distributor and good team player, which is an admirable quality. But he needs to just go Carmerlo Anthony on these bitches and never pass.

627zk-1-1

UMass needs just move on from this and kick the shit out of St. Joe’s this weekend. This will all be forgotten. I honestly hope UMass ins’t ranked next week. You’d look pretty stupid rushing the floor after beating an unranked team. The Minutemen need to get that fire back. They need to become the hunter instead of the hunted. They’ll move on, they’ll catch fire, and they’ll be just fine. Can’t wait for the tournament Brooklyn. I pray to God we play the Bonnies again and end their miserable season. You will never, ever see someone taunt an opposing fan base as hard as I will if that happens. That’s the TurtleboySports guarantee.

Hi there it’s me, I am also visiting this website regularly, this web page is actually
good and the users are genuinely sharing pleasant thoughts.

Hello! I know this is kinda off topic but I’d figured I’d ask.
Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest writing a blog post
or vice-versa? My site addresses a lot of the same
subjects as yours and I believe we could greatly benefit from each other.
If you might be interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail.

I look forward to hearing from you! Great blog by the way!

Remember when this dude said something about Brooklyn? Remember when UMass almost lost to URI in the opening round and then lost to GW? GW then was destroyed by VCU who lost to Joes. Remember when UMass sucks and won’t do shit in the tourney? Remember when the Bonnie’s got further in the A10 then UMass? I’m a joes fan but I love the Bonnie’s pride.

sweet state school Umass. FYI I was accepted at Umass as a safety school and also accepted at Bonnie’s. I would choose That over umass any day.

Joes in the sweet 16 wait for it .

Seems like Turtleboy should look at a map. Allegany and Buffalo are quite a ways apart. That’s like calling Amherst ‘Boston’. Geography is hard.

this is the most poorly written article i have encountered in a very long time. The verbiage is completely obnoxious and it reads as if an angry 16 year old girl wrote it. First, you should realize that St. Bonaventure is not even located in Buffalo, so your reference to the Bills’ failure is completely irreverent. Secondly, if you base your opinion of a team based on their colors, you shouldn’t even begin to call yourself a sports analyst. Finally, as a former student of St. Bonaventure, and a resident of the city of Buffalo, I can say that your description of the city’s population is completely insulting. Although the city isn’t perfect, you encounter homophobia and social disorder in any urban area, not to mention we have a pretty sizable and culturally immersed homosexual population. St. Bonaventure has an extremely respectable Biology, business, education program, in addition to many others. St. Bonaventure’s students may be overly spirited, and disrespectful at times, but I am willing to bet that 99% of its graduates make more of themselves than the author of this article. By the way, congratulations on landing your position as an author for a sport’s analyst website no one has ever heard of (following your logic it sucks.) Maybe next time you decide to write a piece of this nature, you may want to do some research on the location, and have some relevant arguments with some solid content, specifically in regards to ACTUAL sport analysis.

Are you going to write an angry blog complaining about how your swim team got robbed against Penn State today? You guys suck. How the hell did you lose to Penn State at swimming? You couldn’t swim across a frozen lake on a motorized waterproof jetpack that allowed you to swim faster to get to a hot date with a girl in a strapless red dress who was out on the lake. And your swim team sucks too. Your diving team couldn’t even save you in that one. St. Bonnies athletics suck. And your tennis team lost to Duquesne. DUQUESNE??? Seriously??? THEY CAN’T EVEN BEAT SOUTHWEST TOPEKA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY AT SHUFFLEBOARD!!!

    Dear Turtleboysports,

You blog appears to have been hijacked by an anxious 12-year-old who is upset about a basketball game. The post in question is filled with errors of all kinds, ranging from grammatical to geographical to judgmental.
Allegany is about as close to Buffalo as your classy hometown is to Hartford. I guess that makes your blog as much a Whalers fanpage as SBU is to the Bills! I know, I know; I shouldn’t stoop to your base levels of hyperbole, but I just can’t help myself when confronted with the arrogant and semi-illiterate fanbase your wonderful region fosters. Some advice: During your years at University, make sure to spend some time at classes. I realize your High School has failed you and it is too late for them to help, but it isn’t too late for some sort of an education to seep through your desolate and deprived cerebral cortex and possibly stick to some bong resin in there.
In conclusion, keep up the shoddy, furious, hen-pecked “work” you call “the next big thing.” I have nothing but respect for those who are clearly trying their hardest yet still falling short.

  • February 1, 2014 at 3:55 pm

All I know is, some idiot in the comments on here actually bragged that five members of Congress are St. Bonnie’s grads. As if being a member of the most incompetent body in the history of the world is a good thing. That basically sums up everything I need to know about your loser school.

    • ProudMinuteMan
      February 1, 2014 at 6:29 pm

Please just take down this blog kid. You are embarrassing. I know this is for entertainment purposes, but at what point do you say you’re embarrassing yourself. Grow up and leave them be. Some have gone too far, but some have made excellent points. I’m ashamed to say that I am getting the same education you are. My friends and I want to find a way to force you to take this down, but I’m asking that you do the smart thing and take this down. You’re adding fuel to a fire for no reason.

      • February 1, 2014 at 10:08 pm

Wow, you and your friends in Southwest want me to take the blog down? Well why didn’t you just say so??? I’ll get right on that.

        February 1, 2014 at 10:35 pm

Is this what UMass has become? Why the fuck are you not drunk off your ass and throwing burning rolls of toilet paper stuffed with pubic hair off the top floor of JQA?? You are an embarrassment and you should never be allowed to call yourself a Minuteman, particularly using your unique brand of capitalization. Get your pansy ass to St. Bonaventure. Actually, you should have gone to BC. You ma’am, are the embarrassment.

    • Al
      February 1, 2014 at 7:10 pm

I’m pleased to see that your education isn’t only lacking in grammar and geography. It’s funny that you consider yourself enough of an expert on the matter to define our Congress as “the most incompetent body in the history of the world,” while barely being intelligent enough to post a complete thought without rambling or cursing. I’m sure your parents are proud of their little overachiever.

      • February 1, 2014 at 10:06 pm

Hey Al, apparently you don’t follow the news. Let me help you out for a moment. Congress completely shut down a couple months ago for three weeks. Legitimately shut down. Several of them continued to collect paychecks. They’ve declared wars in Iraq that no one seems to want, they’ve ruined social security, and they’d rather argue all day than do work for the American people. So yea, tell me more about how proud of you are that 5 Bonnies are in Congress.

      • Al
        February 2, 2014 at 3:39 am

So that makes them “the most incompetent body in the history of the world?” That is some serious hyperbole. They also brought about and/or resolved all of the issues you point out. How many US soldiers are currently serving in Iraq? I’ll wait for your response. How many US citizens are currently making ends meet because of SSI? I’ll wait for that response on that, too. Of course there are problems with Congress. Your blog is a perfect example of how poorly something created and regulated by humans can sometimes operate. It is a very difficult thing to bring people of all beliefs together under one common cause, but the fact that work does get accomplished is a testament to the effectivity of our system. If you have a better idea for governance, please tell me. In my mind, our system, for all of its foibles, works amazingly well, albeit slowly and ineffectively.

There are literally thousands of examples of governmental bodies performing their duties to a far lesser success than our Congress. I follow the news as well as history; maybe you should catch up on the one that you’re lacking.

      • Al
        February 2, 2014 at 4:24 am

To put a little context on your ranting, a little history: Read up on what the Romans were dealing with c. 134-44BC. Tell me how incompetent our government is in comparison to that. I’ll wait while you compile data on how devastating to our nation the “Legitimately shut down” three weeks were. I’ll give it to you that there were people seriously affected by that shutdown.

Obviously, this assumes you truly intended the history of the world to be your backdrop when you said, “in the history of the world.”

      • Al
        February 2, 2014 at 4:41 am

I’m sorry, I should be clear. I am not here to argue history or politics. I do those things, and sometimes I can’t help myself. What I am here to do is make sure you understand how horrible this blog is. Seriously. It’s really, really bad. You should feel bad. Have you actually seen your background? I seriously doubt any sane person would think that looked good. I didn’t even know there was a header at the top of the page, let alone links, until I actually looked for it. It’s all there. I guess. It’s written in white on a sea of white, but it’s there. The problems are legion, which I could spend all morning enumerating, but I have far better things to do than tell you that which you must already know.

      February 1, 2014 at 4:02 pm

Woah, SuperFan talking about what occurred on April 15 of last year like you just did, is beyond uncalled for. All of you “Bonnies” talking about how you’re great people and that New Englanders are terrible especially “Massholes,” are beyond hypocritical. Look at yourselves in the mirror because you’re not too great yourselves by the way these comments are coming. I don’t know TurtleBoy but he runs an ENTERTAINMENT blog. In more simplistic terms for you folks, it’s an opinionated blog aka not necessarily factual. Also, all of you “Bonnies” who have decided (and most likely will continue) to critique TurtleBoy about his “autrocious spelling” should never try arguing in real life because you have poor arguing skills (and quite frankly sound immature. People arn’t perfect. You all should know that since you attend a Catholic school). Finally, just to point something else out, Massachusetts has some of the BEST colleges in the country so saying Massachusetts’ education system sucks, is not a fact.

      • SBU7
        February 1, 2014 at 4:32 pm

I agree with you that the comment Superfan made was extremely uncalled for. However, you just critiqued all of us, in the same way in which you claimed we were being hypocritical (saying we can’t argue, and putting terms in “simplistic terms” for us). Yes, Bona fans said things here in the comments that were uncalled for, UMass fans did the same. I agree with you, people aren’t perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. We are passionate about our school, and take the defense when people bash it. Not excusing uncalled for behavior, but I’m sure you feel the same way about your school, or teams you feel strongly about. Pointing out spelling and grammatical errors is not immature. For Turtleboy’s sake he should proofread what he writes before publishing it. Unfortunately, anything you put on the internet is traceable. Blogs are the new thing, anyone can have a blog and post whatever they want. I get this is an entertainment blog. It’s definitely not news from the large amount of bias and false information he posts. This is his blog, he’s entitled to his opinion. However, whether this blog is for entertainment or not, the things he posts on this blog will stay with him forever. That being said, I’m sure he hopes to attain a job after graduating from UMass. No employer wants an employee who is posting things on a blog for the entire world to see with spelling and grammatical errors, no matter the purpose of the blog.

      • Don'tWorryAboutIt
        February 1, 2014 at 5:06 pm

SBU7, I appreciate you’re not like some of these Bona fans. I understand having passion and defending your team (now before I go further, I want to point out I’m not bashing you personally) since I’m a sport fanatic, but some of these Bona fans are taking things to an extreme and then some. Not everyone keeps a dictionary on them nor does everyone have spell check. Like we both have said, people make mistakes; that includes spelling and grammar. No one speaks perfect English, hence why we take classes from the time we enter school until we graduate. So complaining about TurtleBoy’s grammar is just as bad as his “whining” as some fans have pointed out. Also, an employer shouldn’t solely look at this blog and determine TurtleBoy’s outcome in a career. You are correct though, that these things stay forever. In that case, one may argue that some of these Bona’s fans behavior may affect the outcome of a career option for one of them. It goes both ways. I am not a UMass fan nor a Bona fan but I just find it wrong that some of these people are attacking the author because it’s against their opinion. Yes, TurtleBoy did his share but he did not go to the extreme like some have through these comments. There is a fine line between having pride and just straight out being disrespectful and unneccessary.

      • SBU7
        February 1, 2014 at 6:00 pm

I agree with you completely… many things that both you and I said can be taking either way for both sides. There is a fine line between pride and flat out disrespect. Whether it was on this site, another site, at the game, or anywhere else both Bonaventure and UMass fans were disrespectful and said things that were unnecessary. I think you can find that across the board, with any sports team. There are always the fans that go too far. I’ve seen it even from parents at a 6 year old’s soccer game. I’m sure there will be a million Syracuse/Duke comments like these after the game tonight. Unfortunately, I don’t think that will ever change. In this instance, I think both teams have fans that were in the wrong. I have never been to UMass and cannot speak for their fans, however, I do know that there is a good majority of Bonaventure fans who do not behave this poorly. You are correct the nonstop complaining at grammar is as bad as his whining. I agree the career comment could go both way. Like you said, no employer should look solely at this blog, however, I do believe that TurtleBoy should care a little more about the content he is putting out for the world to see. (As you could argue Bonaventure fans should as well from their comments).
Regardless, there is never going to be a winner in this debate. The game Wednesday night started a rivalry where both teams are now going to have a strong dislike for each other. Bonaventure fans will always think UMass is in the wrong, and vice versa. In the end, I’m sure TurtleBoy could care less about the comments Bona fans are making, he’s happy this blog has been spread all over social media and has increased his views.

      • Don'tWorryAboutIt
        February 1, 2014 at 6:40 pm

SBU7, I agree with you on this matter at hand. It is unfortunate that people are this extreme and disrespectful, but as you have said, it will never change and it happens during all sporting events or even competitions in general, at all ages. It’s sad but true. In the long run, this is all about one man’s (or woman’s) opinion against another. Is it pride or disrespect? Well that is also a debate. Like we both have said before, it goes both ways. You also hit the nail on the head, TurtleBoy has received significant publicity from this brouhaha for sure and that’s probably all that matters for him. He got people talking, so if these Bona fans don’t like him so much, they should stop falling for his trap because it’s just helping him in the long run. I personally like this author, but in this case, I cannot agree or disagree with the post itself. It’s his opinion and I just respect it. You don’t have to like someone’s opinion but you should respect it. Show pride and defend your team but don’t take it to this extreme. It makes any side look bad. I’m from MA and am used to people complaining about us “Massholes” but like anywhere, not everyone from one area is the same. I’m just glad some people have some rationale.

    • February 1, 2014 at 10:03 pm

This is just a bunch of bullshit. It’s really not a big deal that we rushed the floor when we knew we were going to win. Most students don’t care about what team is ranked or not, we just care if we win a game. Also, our colors are not just brown, we also have gold and white and we are not the only team that has brown as a color. We are also not the only school named after a saint. Most people do not even know a lot of the saints names anyway. Another thing, what right do you have to say anything bad about either St. Bonaventure or Buffalo? St. Bonaventure, if you didn’t figure it out because I don’t think you could, is a very religious campus. Everybody there is accepting and nice and is one of the best places to be since it has such a great atmosphere. Buffalo is a great place to also be. It’s a beautiful city with a great fan base for all of our sports no matter if they are good or not. You just need to learn to deal with things that happened that you can’t control. You are just a sad person and I feel sorry for you.

I have no idea who you may be or who wrote the article. I’m not taking great offense on your post because a lot of what you said if not 100% of what you said was opinion based. Not much was factual. One thing I do take offense is for you to talk down our Saint. If you don’t know who he was. Google him, Wikipedia, ask.com, what ever is your favorite website. Because that was really something unnecessary. That saint and his followers and the person he followed, are very significant to myself, the saint Bonaventure community and many others.
Secondly, you put up a video of one of our loss, ok that’s fine we’re not a ranked team. So we take pride in our wins. Running into the court, although I wasn’t there, those students are enjoying their college experience.
There was no absolute need to use the word hate.
P.S. our color is brown because that’s the colors the friars wear. We are a FRANCISCAN UNIVERSITY.

I hope you know that Boneventure is a wonderful school and it is not located in buffalo you idiots!!!! It’s in a little town called allegheny and is the town pride and joy. Also New York State is one of the highest schools for education making every student earn a regency diploma so watch your mouth about our education! Upstate New York is filled with intelligent young minds and very proud fans and we are happy to say we’re not from buffalo!!!!

LOL if you live or go to school there you should know the town is spelled Allegany, not Allegheny… Town pride and joy… Um ok!! FYI regents diplomas mean nothing in the rest of the country and aren’t even recognized, so they’re important why??

Not to mention you were nationally ranked and you were still underdogs. So what does that say about your relevance? Not to mention Bonnie’s is 60 miles from Butfalo.

All I got out of this non-sence article is that your clearly a sore loser. The fact the fans rushed the court is a theory vs practical argument. Yes, in theory the game had 2 seconds left. You weren’t scoring more than a 3 with 2 ticks left, so the game was over; don’tget your pantys in a bunch over it. Also, you forgot to mention how we beat you 2 years ago to win the A-10 crown.

I hope you’re not trying to be a journalist because you’re a terrible writer. You clearly are bitter about the loss and that UMass has awful fans. We’re a small school and have great fans. You’re pathetic for writing this because you clearly only wrote it to get a rise out of Bonnies fans. Congrats. According to google maps Buffalo is an hour and 46 minutes away from St. Bonaventure. Is umass in Worcester (also an hour 40ish away)?

Bonas is in southwest New York, not upstate. Your Massachusetts education has failed you.

Civilization-wise: I’d take buffalonians over you guys any day. Buffalo people are some of the most loyal and hard working people in the u.s.

Bonas is a great school, with some of the best people on earth. I’d recommend not talking bad about any saint, but especially ours, he’s sort of a big deal. He is worth a search.

Bona fans – we are some of the smartest and best fans out there. We travel well. We always cheer hard for our team and at the end of the game we usually drink with the opposing fans. We usually drink them “under the table,” but still show good sportsmanship nonetheless.

I will agree that the refs in the a-10 this year are really bad. Very inconsistent.

Thanks for the YouTube video, it was awesome seeing us rush early. I wish they would’ve stayed on, but did you see how the game just started right back after about 10 seconds. That’s cause people are decent up there. And we know what the fuck we’re doing.

    Let’s go bonas.

    • February 1, 2014 at 11:02 am

Yea dude, hate to break it to you, but if you live north of Yonkers, it’s all upstate. No one gives a shit about the intricacies of upstate New York geography. It’s all the same.

Yonkers is north of New York City (eastern NY, like, Atlantic Ocean can’t be any farther east). Bonas is in the southwest corner of New York State. Do you know the difference between a city and a state? “Intricacies”

    FACTS-.
There are Massachusetts high schools with more prestige than St. Bonaventure (St. John’s Prep, Xavarian Brothers) Ask anyone in New York state the 25 best NY Universities and St. Bona will not be mentioned. Fordham, New York U, St. Johns, Iona, Syracuse, Stony Brook, U Buffalo, Hofstra, Colgate, Marist are ten better NY schools. ST. BONAVENTURE’S ACCEPTANCE RATE, ACCORDING TO US NEWS, IS OVER 79 PERCENT. LMFAO. There are community colleges with tougher admissions. Even with a 79 percent acceptance rate, there are only about 2,000 kids. This means that noone applies. and the kids that do apply and get accepted enroll at better schools. SB will NEVER be a good institution- too small, small market for jobs after graduation, not even a top 25 school in New York. St. Bonnies- a low academic school which cant attract smart students, and will accept even an octopus. Take away basketbal from UMass, and it is still A TOP 19 SCHOOL ACCORDING TO THE LONDON TIMES. Take basketball away from SB, and it becomes even less relevant.

    – 79 PERCENT ACCEPTANCE RATE
-8 OUT OF EVERY 10 ILLITERATE UPSTATE NY FARMBOYS ARE ACCEPTED
    – NOONE APPLIES
    – NOONE ENROLLS
-PEOPLE IN NEW YORK DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHERE IT IS LOCATED, SOME HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF IT
-THERE ARE MORE NY KIDS AT UMASS THAN KIDS AT SB
-SB IS CATHOLIC, NOONE WANTS TO GO TO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ANYMORE
-ASK PEOPLE IN NEVADA WHICH IS THE BETTER EDUCATION- UMASS OR ST BONAVENTURE, AND THEY WILL ASK WHO/WHAT/WHERE IS ST. BONAVENTURE

St. bonaventure alumni and students. I feel bad that out of all the universities in america, you chose to attend this unknown university who noone except alumni and students can pronounce.

    • AfroBonnie
      February 1, 2014 at 1:58 am

St. Bonaventure University is not a very well known school, and you’re right, it is not hard to get accepted into. However, St. Bonaventure has a phenomenal reputation by the people who actually know what the school has to offer. We have very successful alumni in all fields including 5 members of congress (UMass has 1) and 6 Pulitzer Prize winners (Umass has 3.) We at Bonaventure are very proud of this seeing as how our undergraduate student body is just short of 2,000 and yours is just shy of 29,000. We also have phenomenal academic programs including one of the best journalism schools in the nation and one of the fastest rising business schools in the country. Being such a small school we get the opportunity to sit in class, in a personal setting, with people at the top of their field. For instance, we have a psychology professor who is known across the nation for his writings. We get to know these professors on a personal level and it is something that makes our education worth it. Despite what you may think about the job market out of Bonaventure, the alumni network is incredibly strong and approximately 75% of Bonaventure students have a full time job or internship or are enrolled in a graduate program one year after graduation. That is much higher than the national average. This is attributed to our size. We are not just a face in a crowd of 29,000, but instead we are all individual people that know each other. When we enrolled into St. Bonaventure we entered into a family. That might sound cheesy but it’s not so cheesy when our family of alumni get to know us and hook us up with jobs.

When it comes to basketball, we have one of the best home court advantages in the entire country. We are hostile and will bark at players the whole game. We get in players heads and we play a major role in close games. Just ask Chaz Williams, I’m sure he’ll tell you that he hates playing there because we get in his head as evidenced by him fouling out. St. Bonaventure may be a small school but we have a rich basketball history, much richer than UMass to be honest. We have a final four appearance that has not been vacated.

There was a woman who commented earlier about feeling unsafe at a Bonaventure game because of the students. I’m sorry that we’ve made you feel that way but your family was never in danger. We would only chant at fans or make them uncomfortable if they start taunting us first. If people did that to you than they are poor examples of the Bonaventure community and I would like to apologize on their behalf. There is much more to Bona’s than drunkards making your family uncomfortable. If you ever are back in the area within the next year and a half I’d love to show you around campus and explain the true meaning of a Bonnie (because honestly who knows?) This is a serious offer and I’d be happy to change your perception of our amazing university.

Also we’re not in buffalo. I know that’s been stated a lot but I thought that part was really funny.

      • February 1, 2014 at 8:11 am

You have five alumni in congress and you’re proud of this? The same congress that’s shut down completely for a month? Cool story bro.

    • AfroBonnie
      February 1, 2014 at 2:05 am

also I’m also from NYC and if you think Hofstra, Colgate, Marist, Iona, or most universities in NY are more prestigious than bonaventure than you are just wrong. The names may be more recognizable but we are a much better school.

I think this just is really just upset that we can draw a student crowd like that for EVERY GAME even as an unranked team but a ranked UMass team that has about 25,000 more students couldn’t even draw a crowd like that. Sorry that we have more fun at our home games than you. Sorry our arena is much cooler and allows us to be right on top of the action. Sorry we made it so difficult for you to play here but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We love the fact that you hate it here cause WE WON. Good day sir.

  • CambyMan
    January 31, 2014 at 7:36 pm

As a UMass fan, this shit is absolutely embarrassing on a factual, prose, and argumentative basis. The free throw discrepancy wasn’t a result of bad calls.

Factual: When Chaz is barrelling into defenders and fouling 70 feet from the hoop then he’s going to see pine. Bona didn’t miss the front end of a 1-and-1 and thus got bonus free throws. UMass on the other hand missed 6 front ends. 6! That’s going to result in fewer freebies, genius. The foul discrepancy was 22-15 heading into the last 2.5 minutes of the game, where UMass was forced to foul.

Prose: Everything. But mostly “favorable calls in their favor”

Argumentative: Hard to poke holes at Bona when their team has been to the dance twice since we have, and have an A-10 tournament title behind one of them. As far as the students go- I wish our students gave half a fuck as much as SBU’s do.

Apologies to SBU fans and anyone else coming across this garbage. TB does not represent the community as a whole.

At what point does a smug little bitch like you decide that insulting another school is an excellent idea? We rush the court to be able to celebrate with our friends as well as our team. We pride ourselves on the fact that we go to a school where everyone basically knows each other. You are getting all hot and bothered about UMass players who don’t give two shits as to who you are. We celebrate with those players because we actually know our players and hang out with them regularly. Grow the fuck up. Maybe if you weren’t jacking off because your girlfriend left you for one of your basketball ‘heroes’ you would have found a way to watch the game. It is not that hard to find a website these days that streams it. When we lose to other teams we don’t immediately moan and cry about the other team’s fans. We instead moan and cry about refs. As we all know college refs in the A-10 aren’t the best, but trust me when I say there are games that happen at Bonas that we feel the refs gave to the other team. And as for your picture of our fans that attended the game in Amherst, those are dedicated alumni that live in and around the area. We support our team wherever they go and will continue to long after we leave our school because of our pride. That’s not to say that’s all we care about after we leave school. We do tend to have other hobbies such as serving in congress which five of our alumni have, or serving as CEO’s and presidents of some of the most powerful companies in the world. Not to shabby for a school that resides in ‘loserville’. Great word by the way. Is that from the amazing UMass education? Their education should also teach you to get facts straight before portraying yourself as someone who still needs remedial English classes.

At least your alumni can go enjoy a game in Amherst.. Can’t say the same thing about UMASS alumni being able to enjoy a game in Bonnieville… I’m speaking from personal experience!! The majority, not all but a huge majority, of your fans are rude and obnoxious!

Aside from your atrocious spelling and grammar errors, as well as geographical errors, you do make a point, eventually. Bonnie’s fans look bad.
    Keyword: look.
If I took a photo of the UMASS players as they flipped the crowd off BEFORE the game even began, that’d look bad. That did happen, in case you were wondering. The image you posted is subjective and incriminating.
The refs also were not partial to the Bonnies. There were multiple times when the refs made poor calls where not just students but older fans stood up to voice their disapproval. A few times, the UMASS players even exchanged glances because the foul called on one of the Bonnies was undeserved and, frankly, ridiculous.
The fans stormed the court because we beat an unranked team for the first time in 14 years. Excuse us for being excited. Yes, our fans can be overzealous, they rushed the court against Canisius, too. But since when is that a crime? We have dedicated, loyal fans whose passions lie in rooting for their team, not tearing apart a lesser team when they beat us.
Your lack of knowledge about St. Bonaventure is understandable, I had no idea who he was until I came here. But he was a saint. Why are you hating on a saint? Why are you even bringing up the name of our school? What do our name, mascot or colors have to do with how well our players played and how our fans conducted themselves?
And as for your All-American boy who played all of 17 minutes… why did he only play 17 minutes if he was so great? He fouled out in the second half. You do the math there.
Chad Williams is a good player, in my opinion. However, he played with so much anger that he kept making mistakes and eventually fouled out. That’s happened to a lot of players, so I wouldn’t worry about that too much if I were you.
Honestly, i hope we play UMASS again. If you win, congratulations. If we win, I hope you decide to express your opinion in a better formatted manner with a stronger argument.

    • January 31, 2014 at 6:57 pm

Actually being from the Olean/Allegany area originally, and moving to where there’s real life… New England, I have to agree with this writer that the Bonnie’s fans are horrendous! Unfortunately while living there for a few years, I surprised my husband with tickets to watch his alma mater play the Bonnie’s. Needless to say, with 3 small kids in tow, it was the one and only Bonnie’s game we ever went to. I felt we, as a family, were going to get beat up for rooting for UMASS. The vulgarity coming out of the mouths of student fans, who attend a Catholic college, while children are present, along with the taunting was disgraceful!! Being a fan and being an ignorant, drunk, obnoxious idiot are two very different things! I look forward to attening a UMASS vs Bonnie’s game here in Amherst so I can show you the difference. And maybe you should quit drinking and ruining the town of Allegany and people’s property who work hard to have it… Spoiled kids who have no respect 🙂 Sober, lol, I know how to drink and handle my liquor, unlike you!!!

So kids at a “catholic” college know how to support their team one-hundred percent and get into the other teams head while having a little bit of fun themselves. big deal. Olean/Allegany area cant get much closer to being “real life”

        February 1, 2014 at 9:10 am

If you think Olean/Allegany is where “real life” is you’ve never been anywhere else, lol. Have you looked around lately… Or been to your only shopping center, Walmart, at the first of the month??? There’s nothing there but booze and greasy fast food, I guess that’s what you call “real life”…

I was born and raised in the heart of Connecticut, so let’s get that out of the way. First, and with all due respect, you have no idea what you’re talking about. UMass doesn’t rule nor has it ever ruled. You’re not from New England so you wouldn’t know, but UMass and it’s tryhard satellite campuses are a local joke. Nobody takes them seriously. And Jesus Christ I don’t know where you took your kids, but New Englanders are known for being the biggest assholes in the country so don’t try saying we’re a respectable and classy bunch of fans. I’m not gonna waste my time proving why you and this arrogant uneducated excuse for a blogger (“St. Bony’s”? Really?) are wrong on multiple accounts since New Englanders tend not to listen to anyone but themselves. Fact of the matter is, anytime an unranked team beats a ranked opponent, it’s an upset – regardless of a one and a half-point favor. Which, by the way can be blamed on our rabid student section. Nobody said the Reilly was an easy place to play because quite frankly, it isn’t. See your sorry ass in Brooklyn.

      Sincerely, a proud Bonnie

I actually took my kids to a UMASS vs Bonnie’s game at your beloved Reilly Center! Never felt threatened here at a college OR a pro game, can’t say the same from your “rabid” (your word, not mine, but it explains a lot) student section… Glad to hear your proud of that!

    Ok Little Turtle,
I think the fact that your rich, spoiled rotten, mamma’s boy, sore losing ass is complaining about a loss that your pathetic excuse for a ranked team lost. If you had any knowledge whatsoever about Basketball, you would have been able to logically defend your argument that UMass is better than St. Bonnas, but clearly by you attacking things that do not even relate to basketball, make me think that you are just jealous. Is that it? Are your poor little feelings hurt that your team lost because they couldn’t put as many baskets into the hoop? Aww, I am sorry. Go cry to mommy and ask her to yell at the other team for you, because nobody else fucking cares!

  • January 31, 2014 at 5:12 pm

You are proving that you a certainly an uneducated man! St. Bonaventure is located in Olean/Allegany, New York. That’s about 75 miles south of Buffalo; right on the Pennsylvania line (just for clarification because you’ve proven that Geography is not a strong suit). It’s like saying Amherst is in Buffalo (which hopefully you realize isn’t at all factual). But, fun fact, there actually is a part of Buffalo that’s called Amherst, but I digress. Who cares if the Bonnies wear brown? The shade of red that UMass wears is indicative of a woman who is on her period. That’s the best you have; attacking the colors of the school? I can tell that you’re a little upset that the Bonnies won; I would be too if I were you. I mean you lost to the Bonnies as a ranked opponent. The Bonnies haven’t beat a ranked opponent since 2000 when they defeated #20 Temple at the Reilly Center; and that’s why the students/fans charged the court. It doesn’t matter if the Bonnies were the favorites or not. But wait, since the Bonnies are so bad in your apparently not-so-humble-opinion, how come they were the favorites against a RANKED OPPONENT? That should be the biggest slap in the face to you UMass fans. But alas, they don’t care that you hate them. They hate you Bostonian’s more than you hate them. Anytime they can get a win against a team from out there you best believe they are going to celebrate, even if it is on a WEDNESDAY. I’m sure you will come back with the “my team will be in the NCAA Tournament” argument, but we’re not going to listen. Chances are they will receive a mid-to-low seeding and be destroyed in the 2nd or 3rd round by Wichita State or Creighton. Enjoy the rest of the regular season though and hopefully the Bonnies/Minutemen meet again the A-10 Tournament so the Bonnies can prove, once again, how par your team really is.

“You are proving that you a certainly an uneducated man!” Wow! I strongly suggest you register for English 101, when you aren’t too busy storming the court.

    • January 31, 2014 at 6:14 pm

If they lose in the 3rd round then that means they made the elite eight. Cool insult bro.

      • sbu_bonnies
        January 31, 2014 at 6:35 pm

Have you ever looked at a March Madness bracket before? 1st round is play-in games. Second round is field of 68. Third round is field of 34. Stop acting like you know what you talk about, when clearly you do not.

      • January 31, 2014 at 7:09 pm

Every time you open your metaphorical mouth you prove to everyone who is reading this what a moron you are. Why don’t you go look at a bracket before you claim the Elite Eight is the Third Round of the tournament. You are the epitome of Douchebag.

  • January 31, 2014 at 5:09 pm

Wow….you are an ignorant ass. First off, St. Bonaventure is one of the top schools in the nation for multiple majors. Second, St. Bonaventure was a Fransiscain, something you would have known with a bit of research, also, Fransiscain Friars wear BROWN! So try not to insult the color. And with a little more research, you would also realize that St. Bonaventure is in Allegany/Olean, NY….70+ miles south of Buffalo. Regardless of the spread, UMass is a bigger school, plus Hometeams are given a three point cushion….which means in a neutral site, Bona’s losses by one. And let’s not start with you bandwagoners up in NE with your team that cheated to get to the top. The Patriots are the most overrated team in the NFL. Bottom line about Bona vs UMass…your team lost, and you are butthurt. Grow up. Go Bonas, and let’s go Buffalo!

It sounds like this was a pretty personal loss for you! Let me tell you something, Bonaventure is not some college in a small town, we are a family with a lot of heart and we take pride in our accomplishments. Please keep in mind that your words do nothing but bring comedy to us because after all LIONS DO NOT LOSE SLEEP OVER THE OPINIONS OF SHEEP!

    January 31, 2014 at 3:47 pm

First of all they all aren’t from Buffalo. Second BONAVENTURE beat UMASS because the Bonnies played a better defense. Third the colors are not just brown, they are brown and gold. And the Bonnies have beaten UMASS on multiple occasions in the past. You’re just upset because your nationally ranked team lost to a small school in western New York, and notice how I didn’t say Buffalo, if you’re going to shit on a school do your research. Please learn how to use the internet you ignorant minutemen fan, and while you’re at it google St. Bonaventure you might actually learn something because apparently your state school isn’t teaching you anything.

This is a terrible article you should be ashamed of yourself for writing this. The St. Bonaventure students live for basketball games so when they beat a ranked a team even though it was Masschushits its still a big deal. Really you are a fuck boi and a sore loser.
    YOU CANT HANDLE BONAS

    January 31, 2014 at 3:10 pm

These liberals from UMASS are hilarious……what a bunch of fucks. We just beat a ranked team for the first time in 14 years buddy……of course we were going to storm the court. Any other team in our situation would have done the same thing. Stop being a bunch of whiny crybabies and just accept what happened. And also, Bonaventure is 1.5 hours south of Buffalo. It is only 10 minutes from the PA border. Shows how little you know about New York geography.

    • Joey G
      February 1, 2014 at 5:11 pm

Yeah Turtleboy… if there’s one thing they take seriously in Western New York (other than calling us “faggots”), it is geography.

  • Dan
    January 31, 2014 at 2:53 pm

whoever wrote this is a fuck boi. St. Bonas is the best place on earth, and you still mad that we beat you.

  • January 31, 2014 at 2:41 pm

First off, you got everything right about Buffalo, but that’s what makes people proud to be from Buffalo. You also talk about Buffalo like you’ve been there, but judging from where you think Bonaventure is on a map, I know you’ve probably never stepped foot in western New York.

St. Bonaventure is not in Buffalo – even remotely. Saying Bonaventure is in Buffalo is like saying UMass is in Boston. You’re clueless. I used Google Maps to find that one out. Bonas is probably just outside Pittsburgh too, right?

Thirdly, you can use Las Vegas all you want as a reason that teams shouldn’t storm the court against you. Fact of the matter is UMass was #21 in the nation in the AP poll. Bonaventure is #71 in the RPI after they beat you. So you should feel sick about losing to the “boys in poop” who hadn’t beaten a ranked opponent in 14 seasons. So there’s your reason for storming the court, even if a bit prematurely, but it makes for a better story that way.

Now, let’s talk about hometown reffing. You can’t complain about a home job and then later in that same thought talk about how because you’re nationally ranked, you should get some calls. Good state school logic.

As for the free throw numbers, stop whining. You shot 53% from the line. You shouldn’t want to shoot free throws if that’s the situation. Oh and by the way, when Bonnies lost to you at UMass, you shot 32 free throws to their 16 – and only won by 5. Now when Bonnies doubled you up from the line in OLEAN, NY, you lost by 13. Boo hoo. Using your logic, that meant you scored 24 points from the line in a game you won by 5.

Also, I’m sure you’re too young to understand this, but there was a time back in the 90s when the Patriots and Bills’ fortunes were reversed and you sat at the bottom of the AFC while the Bills won four straight conference championships. So hang on to Tom Brady and Billy Belichick as long as possible because the tables are turning, my friend.

See you at “The Cage” (clever name) or, better yet, in Brooklyn. You know, Bonaventure isn’t too far away from there, either.

  • You're a joke
    January 31, 2014 at 2:16 pm

I get that it’s tough to watch the team that nobody actually supports lose, but you don’t have to be such a whiny bitch about it. We didn’t storm the court because we beat UMass. Most fans know that we’re the better team (as evidenced by the fact that we nearly smacked you clown on your own floor and the fact that we destroyed you in Olean… Not Buffalo jackass). We stormed the court because we did something that we hadn’t done in 14 years. And because we have a good time and love our team.
Don’t worry, you’re back to being irrelevant UMass again.

HAHAHA thanks for the laugh turtle girl….

I understand since no one gives a shit about Umess up in Boston it’s probably quite a shock for you to see fans that actually support their program..

I’d rather see the Bonnies play your team in a half empty Cage than in a half empty Mullins Center.. it might actually sound like a college basketball game for once.

I admire your passion though. It’s nice to see there is at least one Masshole in this world that cares about Umess… even if he is making conclusions without seeing the actual game, it’s a step in the right direction.
