This is Mark Belmore from Walpole.

Mark was murdered on Martin Luther King Day in 1990 when he was a 19 year old Northeastern student on his way home from his girlfriend’s house. The group of Roxbury thugs who did this to him were his age, and simply picked the first white kid they thought was an easy target to beat the shit out of and rob. If you want a good cry, read his sister’s testimony at one of his killers’ parole hearings.

Of course the Globe now wants you to feel bad for another one of his killers, Roger Herbert, who recently died from cancer in Norfolk prison. They also want you to shit on prisons by blaming them for his death:

A Boston woman is calling for the state to address unsafe conditions inside its largest prison after her uncle died last month as a result, she says, of exposure to a hazardous chemical there and a failure by the Department of Correction to provide appropriate medical care. Sophia Bishop-Rice mourned her uncle, Roger C. Herbert, at a Roxbury funeral home Sunday, then led nearly 50 marchers a half-mile down Walnut Avenue for a demonstration demanding better conditions for prisoners at MCI-Norfolk.

“It hurts me that my uncle isn’t here to see me continue on my journey, but he has given me a different path to take,” Bishop-Rice, 47, told the crowd outside the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists.

It hurts you that your uncle isn’t here to see you? Ask Mark Bellmore’s parents and sisters what it was like for them to wake up every day for the rest of their lives and not see Mark’s face?

During Sunday’s march, demonstrators carried candles and crimson balloons — red was Herbert’s favorite color — as well as signs reading, “Cancer on tap! MCI-Norfolk,” and, “Cancer doesn’t discriminate. MCI-Norfolk does!”

Only the Boston Globe would try to get me to give a shit what this murderer’s favorite color was. Ya know who else gets cancer and dies? Innocent people. I have zero sympathy for a man who senselessly robbed a family of a loved one, simply because he is now dead too.

Herbert began showing signs of jaundice in April and requested medical care in the prison repeatedly but was given only aspirin and water from the contaminated taps, according to Bishop-Rice. His condition worsened, she said, and his weight plummeted.

The Globe did exactly NOTHING to research any of the claims that tainted water caused this killer to get cancer. They didn’t reach out to Mark Belmore’s family to hear their thoughts on their son’s killer’s passing. Instead they wrote a puff piece for his family, and blamed the prison instead of the guy who made a life decision that ended up with him in prison.

Bishop-Rice, who is one year younger than Roger Herbert and his twin, Ronald, said she and the brothers emigrated from Barbados with the boys’ adoptive mother, Bishop-Rice’s grandmother, when they were children. As they grew, Roger and Ronald became hardened by bullying over their foreign accents and manners.

Oh right, we’re supposed to feel bad for him because he was bullied over his foreign accents. Because the Globe has to push their agenda that the real source of violence in our society isn’t individuals choosing to be violent, but rather xenophobes who are mean to immigrants.

As teens, the brothers were frequently in trouble with the law, and both were sentenced to life in prison for the 1990 robbery and murder of Mark Belmore, a 19-year-old Northeastern University sophomore. Family and friends said after the murder, Roger Herbert turned his life around in prison.

“He did everything he could to be a be a better person,” Bishop-Rice said.

I don’t give a flying fuck he he turned his life around in prison. What does that even mean? The whole point of being in prison is that you rot while the world goes on without you. How did he become a better person? He stopped murdering innocent people? You want a cookie for that?

Now they’re demanding that they #FreeThemAll:

And this is who the Globe is siding with. An organization that wants to free rapists and murderers and release them into civilized society.

And of course there’s a GoFundMe too:

She wants money for his “honor” because he was “held prisoner by the DOC for 28 years.” Yea, that’s generally what happens when you murder someone. Your uncle was not a victim in any way, shape, or form. He has no honor. They decided to murder the first white kid they saw, and had it been the other way around it no doubt would’ve constituted a hate crime or a lynching.

Witness testimony showed that Herbert, his brother and a few friends decided to attack the next person they saw. One of the assailants testified that the group, all of whom were black, had their sights set on a white victim.

They never apologized to Mark’s family, and showed up to parole hearings to try to get them out of prison, forcing the family to relive their trauma each time. Roger himself attempted to play the race card to get his charges reduced, claiming a black juror was dismissed who would’ve been sympathetic towards him (that’s how jury selection works dumbass).

We refuse to honor murderers and blame prisons for holding these animals while they rot. The Globe chooses to paint people like this in a positive manner while ignoring the families of their victims. This is why you read Turtleboy. Because we don’t like murderers, and we always show the other side of the story.

He ought to count his blessings that it was cancer and not my granddaddy down in North Carolina that did him in. Those old country boys didn’t play.

Mark Belmore and his family are the VICTIMS. NOT Roger Herbert. The only RACISM was the heinous crime committed against Mark Belmore on what would have been the great MLK’s 61st birthday (January 15, 1990.) That is the sickest form of irony I have ever heard.

You want top shelf medicare care? Stay out of jail, get a job, and pay for it. If the state is sued for this bullshit, I will be AMAZED!

(ha ha ha….48 year old UNCLE and his 47 year old NIECE. LOL)

I drank the water for years at MCI-Norfolk. Thankfully, I was not a resident. Should I consult an attorney or maybe opt to not be a litigious, profiteering cunt like these “victims”?
Condolences to the families of the actual victims in these cases.

I don’t hear Randallll complaining about this post, presumably because he has half a brain and realizes how fucked up this the situation is, especially for the vic’s family.

5 whites beating up a jig and the Globe would talk about racist all day everyday for 30 years.
Meanwhile in reality groups of black thus assault whites everyday all over and are called flash mobs or local men or revere men. Perhaps the city could not call this a hate crime because they were upset about the Kakas Furs alleged incident

Mark Belmore is/was my Brother-In-Law, I’m married to his sister Heather, thank you so much for bringing light to this! My wife was devastated when she first learned about the march and GFM Account. Thank you for this piece, it means the world to Heather.

So sorry for your and your wife’s loss. This is a horrible situation, he was a murderer, don’t care he turned his life around. It happened too late, shoulda turned it around BEFORE you murdered a poor innocent kid. I used to buy the Sunday globe, mainly for the sports section but as of last year, no more. $5 for a crappy paper that should only be used to line a bird cage. John Henry, take the keys to the toy away from your wife and hire someone competent to run that rag. Sadly the globe represents the scumbags that inhabit this state and vote for the likes of Warren, Healy, Baker, etc al. Just playin to the crowd. RIP Mark, NO PAROLE FOR MURDERERS, ever.

Dig that fucking murdering savage up, prop him in front of his mother’s house, and shove a stick of dynamite up his ass. When she comes outside to clean up his gizzards, hit her with a flamethrower for bringing that cocksucker into the world.
