Here’s another update on the Bridgewater State professor who is not being disciplined, and is apparently a “really good teacher” according to President Fred Clark, despite writing on his Facebook page that any student who voted for Trump is not welcome here.

Apparently a group of students and alumni are now demanding an apology from the student who discovered his page, and has since withdrawn from his class since she realizes she will not be assessed fairly. Check out this insane letter they sent:

As students of Bridgewater State University we are writing to ask that the administration of the school takes a firm stand in defense of Professor Garrett Avila-Nichols. While we recognize that his comments, made in anger, were unprofessional in nature we firmly believe that the reaction to these Facebook posts has gone too far, essentially becoming a witch-hunt.

A college campus should always be a place where discussion and debate are fostered and encouraged — including and especially when about political topics. To expect otherwise is absurd. The majority of students are legal adults, and while many of us still view ourselves as in a transitional period wherein we learn what that really means, there needs to be an expectation that we can engage in these discussions without threatening the safety and wellbeing of those around us, particularly those who disagree with us. Listening to people who disagree with us is how we can expand our understanding and become educated members of society and its political systems, giving us power to act and engage with it.

Because of the importance of this, it’s of equal importance that students and faculty all feel safe and empowered to share their thoughts and beliefs — so long as they are not harmful to others — in the spirit of vigorous debate and broadening horizons. So long as professors have to worry about the safety of the careers they worked to build then that cannot happen. This same truth applies to students, though we have seen no evidence thus far that any student’s academic career was put at risk by Professor Avila-Nichols thoughts, beliefs, or statements outside of the classroom.

Further, we would ask that the student who shared these posts without bringing her concerns to the professor in question or any other faculty members, Alyssa Hood, release a statement explaining why she felt this course of action was appropriate, along with what her motivations and goals were. It would be ideal if this statement included an apology, but of course that decision is up to Ms. Hood.

We would like to thank each and every person who has received and read this letter for your time and attention. There is certainly a great deal of information for you all to keep track of and handle at the moment. We sincerely hope you consider what we’ve said and asked here.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAA!! Here’s some of the idiots who wrote the letter:

Oh look, white girls who think they know anything about how the real world works. Shocking. One of the people who signed it is actually an alumni too.

So let me get this straight. A student sees her professor’s open Facebook page, which tells her that as a Trump voter she is not welcomed in his class. So then it is incumbent upon the student to reach out to the teacher, who clearly HATES her and those of her ilk, and mend the fence? It’s not the teacher’s job to do this?

Then she has to explain her “motivations and goals.” Oh, I dunno, maybe exposing an unprofessional asshole who has no business being in a position of authority?

Oh, and not only that, it would be great if she apologized. Ya got that? Because she apparently did something wrong when she discovered this and was upset about it:

Lots of morons are suggesting that this is a First Amendment issue. It’s not. You have a right to free speech, but you don’t have a right to your job. Adults understand this very simple concept. Because the fact of the matter is that the words you write on Facebook make it impossible to do your job, when that job is to teach ALL students and assess them fairly. No Trump voter could ever feel like they would get a fair shake in his class, because they wouldn’t.

Others have reached out to the student in question who they are now demanding an apology from, and claiming that they get marked down if they express the wrong political opinions in their papers:

Alyssa Hood, the student who is now being asked to give an apology, had this to say:

In response to the ineffective rant that some students and alumni have sent to the school board, to say this is a witch-hunt is untrue. I am not hunting down something that doesn’t exist and that’s clear through the post that he publicly shared on his social media. Although I do agree discussion and debate should be fostered in college, political debate should stay in a political environment. “There needs to be an expectation that we can engage in these discussions without threatening the safety and wellbeing of those around us.” Absolutely, except how would this be achieved when a professor is spewing hate saying “Trump supporters are not welcome, we belong in the KKK parade”, and we “have blood on our hands”?

On another note debate has absolutely nothing to do with my intentions, which is obvious if you had read my original post. To also continue saying you haven’t seen any evidence that my academic career could have been put at risk I recommend you look at the screenshots that were taken from what was his PUBLIC account. How would I or any other Trump supporter feel they would be treated fairly in a class where the professor has such extreme hate for us? So to answer what my motivations and goals were was this: to expose someone in what was supposed to be a welcoming environment, discriminating against a group of people based on their beliefs. If the professor had posted saying “Hillary Clinton Supporters are not welcome, they are all terrorists and belong to antifa” this would have been just as bad and I would feel the same way about the professor. I would also recommend those who are looking for an apology to get in contact with Nichols.

Boom. Roasted.

Fire this asshole.

I’m sure she’s enjoying all the attention. I wonder if she’s considered how her other professors will feel about her reposting something a colleague said on a private blog a year ago just to damage his reputation?

Not to put too fine a point on it but there is no such thing (person?) as “an alumni”. It’s alumnus or alumna. Pretty sure nobody at Bridgewater State noticed.

Not to make a finer point here but there is such an entity as “alumni” it’s the masculine plural form of alumnus and of course “alumnae” the feminine plural form of alumna. Most women’s colleges use the feminine form although it appears the usage of alumni is fast becoming the norm for singular, plural, and either gender of graduates.

I like the picture that says, “No Uterus, No Opinion.”

That is why we need to change the laws. If you get pregnant, it is your problem. The guy should not have to support you and your mistake. And if you get pregnant and you cannot afford to support the kid, then you should be required to have an abortion. Abortions are good. Abortions prevent undesirables from breeding.

Any and all students who have received a poor mark should join in in a class action lawsuit. And the top administrator must be fired too. Allowing such unprofessionalism at this school. He owns it. Let him pay the consequences.

But I bet she demands that my tax dollars pay for her uterus care, abortion, etc.

Oh I see so he gets to make a public announcement but she supposed to keep her concerns quiet, really? He chose to post his comments in a public forum that they got pulled out too bad and cry me a river

You realize that by asking the school to fire this guy for sharing his thoughts, you’re no better than the SJWs that shout for the alt-righter to get fired over some fired up racist rant they post on facebook, right? Up to and including your reasoning that “freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequence”. Its starting to seem that snowflakes are falling on both sides of the fence more and more these days. This is why we can’t have nice things.

We want him fired, NOT because of his opinions, but because his opinions affects the safety, grades and futures of the students he deliberately screws over because they dont agree with him. Hes abusing his power, period. Thats unethical and unprofessional. Grading someone based on whether you like them or not is NOT OKAY. That’s NOT how teaching works. Students dont feel safe when they should feel safe (and accepted no matter what they believe) in their classes.

sorry mark but you cannot be more wrong. the professor has a position of power. he has the ability to make or break you in that classroom. definition of a bully= the use of force ,threat or coercion to abuse ,intimidate or dominate others. he’s a bully period. in his class you must kowtow or fail. AND this isn’t some private rant in a bar, it’s public. EVERYTHING ON FACEBOOK IS PUBLIC. i believe his punishment should be public as well. in order for his students, and us, the taxpaying public, to receive fair equity the professor should publicly admit his guilt and be branded with a swastika on his forehead. why treat him any better than he would treat us?

Again, I comment about students being too scared to come forward about the “teacher” because they would become a social pariah. And then an article comes out regarding just that. I should seriously consider being a blogger sometime.

I love that she isnt backing down, and i hope more students come forward with this issue. How fucking stupid are these sjw? Fucking hypocrites. Period.

I heard that the professor and the school prez both have some serious dirt on Hillary & Bill.
Sure would be a shame and a complete coincidence if either or both met an untimely end through suicide or freak accident.
Yup, a damn shame it would be.

Ms. Hood is too good for that shit hole of school and the shit stains who signed that foolish letter. Get out of there, Ms. Hood, and go to a real school (though this liberal bullshit goes on at most schools).

Coach says: I got food poisoning at 3 Squares in Vermont after Tabby Danyow served me. I keep calling 3 Squares to complaint about Tabby Danyow and I can’t seem to get through. Anyone else able to get through to 3 Squares at 802-877-2772. Maybe it is a problem with my phone. I don’t think Tabby washes her hands after she drops a deuce and it made me sick after she handled the food. They need to know that and straighten it out or Coach will not be back.
