Brockton EnterpriseThe longtime head coach of the Brockton High School baseball team was fired by the school district following complaints from parents about the mistreatment of players. Bill Maloney, who has coached the Boxers baseball team for 11 years, said he recently received a letter from the superintendent of Brockton Public Schools stating that he was being dismissed from the position.Maloney said he is now working with his union, the Brockton Education Association, to potentially appeal the termination. Maloney said he is waiting to hear from the union on Friday whether or not they will keep going forward with a grievance procedure.

“I’m still waiting to be heard fully,” Maloney said. “I’m still confident I should get my job back as coach. I really don’t feel I did anything wrong.”

Brockton Public Schools declined to comment on the baseball coach’s firing.

“This continues to be a personnel matter,” said a spokesperson for the school district, in emailed statement to The Enterprise. “We have no comment on this at this time.”

Maloney was first put on administrative leave from the head coach position after complaints were filed by several parents, claiming that he crossed the line with abusive criticism of the players. Maloney previously admitted that he “can be tough” on his baseball players, but he defended his coaching methods as fair.

“I’ve been doing the same stuff for about 20 years now,” Maloney said. “I haven’t changed a bit.”

Maloney mentioned that one thing he received a complaint about was throwing a clipboard after becoming frustrated.

“They didn’t like that,” he said.

Maloney said he remains in his full-time teaching position at North Middle School for Brockton Public Schools.

“That’s totally separate,” Maloney said.

During his absence, junior varsity baseball coach Chris Brennan stepped in to coach the varsity baseball team, although it is unclear who will fill the position on a permanent basis going forward. The Brockton High School varsity baseball team ended the year with a 5-win and 15-loss record.

So let me get this straight. This guy is such a horrible human being and can’t be around children so they fired him as the baseball coach, but kept him on as a teacher in the middle school? Yea that makes TONS of sense. You hardly ever interact with children as a teacher.

To me the most shocking part about this is that it happened at Brockton High School. This isn’t Lincoln-Sudbury, where their coach was driven out by two pairs of Escalade soccer Moms. Brockton kids are supposed to be raised tougher than this. Oh I’m sorry, did coach throwing a clipboard hurt your delicate feelings? How will you ever survive the trauma? I didn’t think it was possible to grow up in Brockton and be this soft.

And stop saying it’s “abusive” criticism. Being a hard ass is not the same thing as being abusive, because being on a sports team and being in a classroom are completely different venues and have completely different rules for adults. You can call some kid a lazy sack of shit on the field and there’s nothing wrong with it. But you obviously can’t do that in the classroom. That’s why sports are our last bastion of hardo adults and need to be protected. It’s bad enough that the rest of society is turning into delicate snowflakes in need of a safe space. The one place where men can still be men was supposed to be in sports. But it looks like that’s slowly disappearing.

This isn’t “abusive” language either – it’s the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts kids. If you suck, and you’re not doing what the coach tells you to do, he’s gonna get pissed. The whole purpose of the coach getting pissed is that it’s supposed to motivate you to not piss him off anymore. And the best way to do that is to start doing your job and not sucking so much. It’s an age old strategy that yields winners time and time again.

Was this guy a good coach? No clue. Urban schools like Brockton historically don’t do well in baseball. But this is the type of helicopter family member he was dealing with:

This guy really looks like he knows what he’s talking about:

First of all Michael Dernier, obviously he didn’t tell the entire team to chase foul balls, because someone has to actually play the game. What really happened is that he made the scrub bench warmers go chase foul balls, because that’s what the scrub bench players have always done in high school baseball. This isn’t the MLB, and schools have budgets, and baseballs don’t grow on trees. If a ball isn’t shagged right away in Brockton it’s likely to be traded in for a clean syringe within 10 minutes.

Secondly, this is classic whining from the family of a benchwarmer. “The kids knew better than he did.” Translation – my kid didn’t play and was way better than the kid who started. “If they lost any games it cuz of him and his stupid plays.” Translation – I’m a talking head who is way smarter than the coach. “Even when a player on base steals base, coach gets pissed at them for not listening.” Because God forbid kids on a team do as the coach tells them to do.

This post from Michael Dernier sums up what he’s all about pretty accurately:

A self professed delicate flower. A horny one at that. This is the type of people that schools are caving to. In the burbs it’s well spoken soccer Moms. In places like Brockton it’s illiterate know it alls like this guy.

This is becoming the norm, too much input by the neurotic parents. Their kids turn out to be girly-boys in many instances. Take a look around, how many kids are obese, overweight and sitting with their phones all day. Much of this, comes from the parents. This Brockton disaster is another example. A few years ago, a coach in Shrewsbury told me about the same. Was not surprised at all and the parents are damaging their kids for life !

What kind of desperate loser makes his profile a shirtless picture when he’s got a marshmallow for a body. Seriously…the dude has 2 chins and I bet the only working out he’s ever done is single handed pole pumps on himself.

This generation is going to turn into a bunch of pussies! Back in my day the boys played through broken fingers while being yelled at by the coach because they weren’t sissy bitches! Thank God I came from a different generation where boys grew up to be real strong men who hold their ground and tell it like it is… I don’t know maybe I just like mine with huge balls (not literally though) and a tad bit of aggression…lol

    Bunch o’ pussies!
