Columbus day should be the farthest thing from anyone’s mind in February. But I guess there haven’t been enough criminals roughed up by police lately in Rhode Island so the PC patrol was starting to get bored.

Brown University has long been a bastion of ridiculous hippiedom. Building off the momentum from the University of Missouri clowns and their absurd demands on school administrators, Brown students protested last November after a drunk Dartmouth student got detained for mouthing off to a police officer. But wait! This student wasn’t black! Oh, he’s Hispanic! Ok good enough, we can now say there’s a climate of “fear and pain” on campus, we can say all the campus police are big racist meanies, and now we can make crazy demands on administrators.

Brown’s history of honoring the hippie mantra of “free speech is great, as long as you agree with me” goes back to at least 2013 when students shouted down former NYC Police Chief Raymond Kelly who was there for a panel discussion on New York’s stop and frisk policy. Students famously didn’t let Kelly finish a thought, and when one student tried to call for open and honest dialogue, he was told to shut the fuck up and go write an essay. Free and open exchange of ideas!

Anyway, the butthurt patrol actually started its battle against Columbus Day back in 2009. Then, they succeeded in getting the school to replace Columbus day with “fall weekend.” But of course, this wasn’t enough. Everyone knows by now that if you give these people an inch, they try to take a mile. That’s why any college administrator who gives into these dooshnozzles deserves to get sat on by RBG.

This brings us to today, the culmination of the epic 7 year struggle. The PC patrol representatives on the Brown faculty, apparently lacking anything important to do, decided to hold a vote in February about the fate of a holiday in October. And what do you know? Looks like they voted to change the name to indigenous people’s day! Hallelujah! #wedidit!

Glad these people can all sleep well tonight knowing they made a difference in the world. But if they are true social justice warriors, where is the call the change the name of the school? Its founder was active in the slave trade. True social justice warriors know the best way to right the wrongs of the past is to whitewash and sanitize history, so lets see them get the name of the school changed. #wecandoit

Lol that top pic reminds me of the Na’vi Hometree in Avatar just without all the James Cameron goodness. All we require would be some Italian helicopters raining death on the sacred tree of Brown U and then the coeds would have something to really complain about. Sure Columbus discovered The Bahamas and enslaved/mistreated the less technologically advanced natives he encountered but so what? Every single clash of civilizations has resulted in a similar fashion and the farther back in history you go the more barbaric and disgusting it seems. If they don’t want to celebrate Columbus Day and they get enough people in their college community to be on board with that? Go them.

Columbus was an incompetent douchebag. That being said, they should keep it Colombus Day just so people can insult him and call him out as the monster he was. Kind of like an American Guy Fawkes.

Aren’t there more constructive things to do in college? Like, drink Knickerbockers; smoke weed; do some “shrooms”; play Sega Genesis; hook up with drunk freshman chicks; and write on your friend with a permanent marker when he habitually passes out each weekend! Oh yeah, and go to class and study in between those more important things!! What a joke!! Sounds like a whole lot of fun to be in college in this hippiefied generation!

Because according to them it’s Columbus’ fault that people killed a bunch of Indians 300 years after he died.

It’s only $60,000 a year for the privileged to attend here. I mean, that’s true solidarity with the 99%, right ??

A waste is a terrible thing to mind……and this school is full of truly wasted and misspent lives, and plenty of well paid staff to babysit them.

The only things I protested in college were weed droughts and Natty Light.

They should show some sacrifice. They should not celebrate Columbus Day at all and go to school instead.
