I just need a minute of your time to rant about the worst company on earth – Casella Waste Systems. They are the devil. Every week when the recycling guy from Casella comes to the Turtlepad he leaves behind a sea of paper all over my front lawn. Like clockwork. I watched it happen last week as the asshole took the recycling bin, dumped it into the truck, and papers started floating around everywhere. Rather than pick them up, he just jumps back in the truck because doing his job is apparently too much to ask for. That’s why Worcester is the only city in America that gets covered in trash because we’re trying to save the environment.

12919625_242543542759428_6472220835960638718_n

Anyway, they also do trash and they evidently think the rules of the road don’t apply to them. I needed to park in in this lot downtown the other day, but I couldn’t pull in because this was blocking it:

14551023_1787741914842417_758953919_o

First of all asshole, just because you’re driving a garbage truck doesn’t mean you get to park headfirst into oncoming traffic. So I sat there for 15 minutes as this guy went into the alley and pulled out can after can to throw in the truck:

14614407_1787741978175744_1283415094_o

14571896_1787741911509084_156874055_o

But he didn’t have to park there. He could’ve easily just parked across the street. However, that would require not being lazy, and if you work for Casella Waste Systems it’s a rule that you have to be lazy. So I went up to this guy and asked him to move his truck. He told me he was “just doing his job.” I then pointed out to him that he could easily just back up and allow me to pull into the parking lot, but this evidently was too much work for him because he works for Casella Waste Systems. So he went back and got a few more canisters while I waited in traffic and forced a big line to pile up behind me.

In a place I like to call “the real world” companies with shitty customer service don’t get rehired. But in Worcester this is acceptable. Casella Waste Systems is the devil.

I work for this company, come follow me for 2 hours bitch and you would be crying. Don’t generalize and entire company on one guy you see. That city has been dirty since the 70s nothing’s changing.

I’m not familiar with this trash hauler, but what I see, in general, is that people don’t know how to secure their trash and pack their recyclables. I’ve seen people put out an open paper bag full of foam packing peanuts. One gust of wind and they are everywhere.

I put out my trash the morning of pickup. Bags are secured. Recycle bin is packed with clean, crushed items, and the loose items go on the bottom so the wind doesn’t take them.

But then the pickers come along, and rustle thru all the nice tight packed items seeking a nickle, and everything falls to the ground or is loosened and blows around. Im at work, the pickers? That is thier job.

This is one more reason why Worcester can’t have nice things. I see them go out of their way to throw the empty recycling bins on the street rather than return them to the sidewalk. I have also seen them throw the entire recycling bin into the truck with the trash…..and drive off. I had to replace mine.

They do that so you have NO recycling bin, which makes less work for them. See? Lazy.

I’m currently a employee. All these critics yet you don’t have a understanding of the job. The city pays us 30$ an hour to pick up recycling not to pick up messes. We get to houses and there sometimes messes. Or even trash in the recycling. If your recycling is clean. When we’re done with your house it will be left clean. We put the same effort you guys put when you take out your recycling. 50:50

Gotta call BS on that, casella manager. Your drivers make absolutely NO EFFORT to keep recycling from spraying all over. The tiny bins provided lend to overflow and wind driven issues. This is the cities fault too. But my driver tosses tge bin in the truck so carelessly and fast it falls to the ground every time. And then he smashes the plastic bin to tge asphalt so hard it cracks. Why so angry, $30 an hour not enough for you?

It’s the city who took them small recycle bins, they have a contract and they agree to all this. Blame your city’s management.

I love paying for those big yellow bags so I can throw them away, don’t you? Why I can’t buy my own bags is a mystery, since either way, they are getting thrown away

Same thing in Holden/Jefferson. I’ve retaliated by putting my recycling in cheap trash bags before going in the bin (which they say NOT to do – tough shit I say). Resolves the problem completely – especially on those windy days.

Just fire up your gas powered leaf blower and blow the trash a couple houses away, problem solved! Your place looks great!

Casella polluted drinking water in Charlton.

They tried screwing the residents of Oxford by teaming up with the board of selectmen to gain a forced audience (forced-opt-in) and a monopoly.

Not sure why Worcester doesn’t have the big rolling trash and recycling buckets like surrounding towns. Between the heavy amount of trash and the animals in the area, this would be the logical solution. It would save a lot of trouble for residents and employees. Hell, where’ I’m at, we have trash, recycling, and compost buckets. Our trash buckets have bear-proof locks. The trucks come by with a truck that has an arm which picks up the buckets and dumps them into the truck in a way where nothing spills or blows around. The guy gets out if the bucket has a bit too much but that’s rare.

“Not sure why Worcester doesn’t have the big rolling trash and recycling buckets like surrounding towns. ”

Why use the money for keeping the city clean, the potholes repaired, and the streets plowed when we could use the money to pay diversity officers?

  • October 6, 2016 at 1:40 pm

I fired casella years ago. Scumbag company. Try Republic or Pratt.

  • Fire the slackers
    October 6, 2016 at 1:37 pm

Capella is the pits. The management is a joke too. Up to the city to pressure these slackers to wake up and stop blaming the public. Simple, get rid of them and hire a company that’s excellent !

  • Chris From Georgia
    October 6, 2016 at 1:30 pm

We don’t have that problem down here in Georgia. There are three different wast disposal companies that service my neighborhood. Excellent customer service. That’s what happens when there is competition.

But how do the pols make any money unless they select (after what is I’m certain a fair process) a company who’s name ends in a vowel?

  • Mike
    October 6, 2016 at 1:29 pm

People are stupid. They put out all their loose paper in an open bin on a windy day then bitch when it blows around the neighborhood. The trash pickers don’t help either. The ones who will spend a day collecting $5 worth of cans and leave a mess in their wake.
Give everyone a barrel and let them burn their trash like we used to and the issue will be solved.

    • Emily
      October 6, 2016 at 3:52 pm

Mike this is why I take my bin to the dump myself. I’ve seen these people taking papers, bottles and cans out. Put them on the sidewalk just to look for soda bottles. I literally asked one of them one day. If he was going to put ALL that back in the bin. Off he went. That’s it. I’m done. There’s enough to clean up around here without picking things up twice

      • Carlos Danger
        October 8, 2016 at 8:25 am

There’s a city ordinance against that – you can’t touch a recycling bin of another even when it’s on the curb. Of course, they WPD are not aware of this ordinance. So crush your returnables before putting in the bin so the pickers can’t use them.

I’m working in Springfield now and this city is also covered in trash. This city is the worst and the residents I think really like it this way. I cleaned and pressure washed this whole dumpy building here to prep it for paint. I come in to work the next day and see some mother fucker took a shit all over the face of the building. Its as if Springfield was trying to tell me “we don’t like nice things”.

I can’t believe I am reading this today. Yesterday was my RUBBISH day. As I drove down the street I kept thinking the 1 day if the week when the streets get trashed because it’s trash day. If they don’t pick up what you have on the street then most people just leave their RUBBISH there. Until it blows ALL over the neighborhood. We have people like that on Endicott St. It’s every single week. Without fail. It’s like you’re reading my mind.

I used to do this thankless, God-forsaken job in that hellhole of a city. I wouldn’t wish that job on my worst enemy.

Worcester is a science experiment on humans gone wrong in the 1800’s, where everyone escaped … and reproduced.

If we waited or moved for every single person who bitched and moaned about us being in “their way”, we’d never get your shit picked up … and then you cry to the city about that!

    CAN’T WIN!

  • Oscar the grouch
    October 6, 2016 at 12:52 pm

It’s obvious this man collecting the cities trash didn’t realize how important your work as a full time blogger is to the city! How are you supposed to find the time to post two quality blogs a day?

  • City Resident
    October 6, 2016 at 12:22 pm

There’s so much truth in this article it hurts.

The assholes who serve my neighborhood don’t even bother picking up the things THEY dropped into the street. They just leave them there. Makes me look like the litter bug.

    • Emily
      October 6, 2016 at 1:05 pm

City you are so right. You would think by now people would know what goes in a bin and what goes in yellow bags. If they don’t get picked up there’s a reason for it. Lazy entitled people in this city. If it’s your mess clean it up

  • Justice
    October 6, 2016 at 11:42 am

TB…Papers are supposed to be tied or bundled and placed in a brown paper bag. I think it’s the Worcesterites who are lazy. However, all residents should be given a LARGE rolling recycle bin that would enclose the recyclables in it. Step it up, Cassella Waste and Worcester.

    • Crusty
      October 7, 2016 at 7:45 am

Not true. They changed that. Now you can put paper and other recycling together in the same bin. Problem is the bin is tiny and has no cover.
