Last month we told you about the GoFundMe that RBG and crew had started so that he could go to a poetry slam in Oakland. They wanted to raise $3,000 so Turtleboy donated $5 with the understanding that RBG had to write us a haiku.

But they sent our money back to us. As it stands now they’ve raised $2,790, for the slam, which is going on as we type. Yet for some reason Ed Augustus and the City of Worcester decided that yesterday would be a good day to write RBG and crew a check for $1,500 for this poetry slam:

Unreal. They never learn do they? Hey Fast Eddie and company – Turtleboy is always watching. Always. You can’t get away with this anymore. It is no longer 2012. The fun and shenanigans are over. Oh yea, and we also discovered that “Poetry Slam Inc” is located out of Billerica. Not sure why the city of Worcester is paying money to a poetry group from Billerica. For what it’s worth, Poetry Slam Inc never filed their annual report for 2014. It was due on November 1, 2014.

But that’s never stopped Ed Augustus before.

Just a reminder that Robert Blackwell-Gibbs led the illegal Lincoln Square blockade, which halted traffic all over the city in December:

f7rcm-1 (2)

Then he led the Kelley Square blockade, and jumped on a trailer track in a threatening manner in January:

Screen-Shot-2015-01-19-at-8.36.03-PM (5) Screen-Shot-2015-01-19-at-8.36.19-PM (1)

Then the city of Worcester offered to drop the charges against him if he agreed not to block any more streets. He declined. Now he’s facing charges in court and whining about it with his fantastic friends:

Then he threatened to skullfuck people’s parents:

Screen Shot 2015-08-13 at 5.30.58 PM

Because he needs the $1,500 for a free trip to a poetry slam. After all, collecting unemployment for two straight years wasn’t enough public funding:

Screen-Shot-2015-01-04-at-11.36.35-AM1 (1)

And luckily during this very violent summer the city of Worcester is giving money to a person who teaches children to crack other children’s skulls with baseball bats:

Screen-Shot-2015-01-04-at-11.33.37-AM (1)

This is how Ed Augustus and Joe Petty think your money should be spent. We realize it’s only $1,500, which is pennies in the long run. But it’s the principle of the matter that the city of Worcester is going out of their way to give money to an unstable, dangerous criminal, who didn’t have the respect enough to promise the City Manager that he wouldn’t block any more roads.

Here’s my question for teachers out there in the WPS – what could you have done for your school with that $1,500? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page and we’ll publish them.

Sick of this yet? Register to vote. It takes two seconds do to it online. We need an army of turtle riders to send the message in the September preliminary election and the November general election, that people like Joe Petty will not be allowed to give away our money to criminals any longer. Mike Gaffney for Mayor.

    Dude:
I appreciate your clarification, however I don’t care who is in the group… I don’t think it’s a wise allocation of funding for something that only benefits 3 residents.

And it is your right to care or not care as you see fit (‘Merica!). And I apologize if I seem to be on the side of RBG or any of the other hippies, I just like things fair and everyone deserves a defense. Just because others cheat the system doesn’t mean we should. We need to be better than those that do cheat their way around life. Just because they do something (anything really), doesn’t mean it is part of this giant conspiracy to screw the city and its residents out of money. We need to make sure something was actually wrong, cause false accusations ultimately help them.

Dude: I was thinking that you might have wanted to use the word ‘irrelevant’ back there; but now that I’ve thought it through completely ‘irreverent’ is clearly the better choice in this instance.

I love it. When people think of taxes they think that they contribute a penny to this and two pennies to that which makes it easy.I wish taxes were specifically assigned so some striver sees that his entire $1500 quarterly contribution gets assigned to sending rbg off to frisco, to get slammed san fransico style Even though the payer is still saving up to maybe get his daughter braces.

If insead it went to a needy family then I should get pictures of the family I support and get thank you letters from, them. We should be assigned to each other so they can tell me how much my contribution helped and I can encourage their success. There should be a Sponsor/sponsored relationship that would also allow mentorship from the sponsor and hopefully some degree of responsibility from the benefactor

So, how much money is the City allocating to the newly rejuvenated Italian Festival 2 blocks from City Hall, where culture will happen right IN the city. Not in Oakland. not in Billerica. In Worcester.

    Oh, right. Zero.

Same for the Albanian festival that happened right on the west side of where? Oakland? No- Worcester. But Worcester gets zero. Why let locals celebrate culture locally when we can buy air travel for people who hate Worcester to celebrate culture almost as far as you literally can get from Worcester?

Wow, this is unbelievable. This man should hang his head in shame. Along with Nate Pickens, Wanda Eaton and Kevin Ksen. I fully support passionate activism but only if it results in positive benefits for the community. This poetry slam BS is a joke. So glad we moved out of Worcester just in time…

Maybe Clive will write a column about it. Ha!

The only way to make a change to this broken city is to get out and vote for the change. It doesn’t matter if you don’t always agree with Turtle Boy, at least he is making people aware of the problems that need to be examined, the current political regime has no interest in making any changes, so I for one will be making sure my voice is heard this November. #getoutandvoteworcester!!

I couldn’t agree more. I often have to shake my head at some of the language used by TB Sports and I think some of the blogs are less than honest (MIA/POW flag is racist, for example), but I appreciate the fact that things are coming to light that would otherwise stay hidden from view. I’ve lost a lot of respect for several of Worcester’s public figures, some of whom I have supported in the past.

There’s a lot of confusion on this, so lets see if I can help clear the air on a couple things:

The city did not give RBG $1500, they gave the company “Poetry Slam, INC” the money. He is not a member of their board, nor listed as an executive/officer. He is merely a contributor. The city frequently donates/contributes to groups in art and culture and this is not out of the ordinary. Cultural arts budget being spent on cultural arts. Just because you don’t like a person getting something out of that transaction is no reason to scream shenanigans.

Next, the city’s cultural development budget and the WPS cultural development budget (or whatever it may be called) are two different things. Though schools can sometimes be included in the payouts, the budget for the city is meant for city-wide investments. Many of you seem to think that this was taken out of the pockets of the children, when even if Poetry Slams was not given a check, that money would have never made it into the school system. If you have a problem with the school budget, it would be a great idea to go to a school committee meeting and suggest/inform/complain about it. They would be the ones to yell at about the WPS money/budget issues, not the city manager.

    • Jen Omalley
      August 14, 2015 at 10:47 am

I understand the clear differences between the WPS/ School Committee and the City side of things. I have been to many SC meetings as well as spoken to numerous SC members about budget issues. My point, which perhaps I did not word well initially, was if the city manager has some funding to spend perhaps it would be better spent in his own city NOT as a donation to a poetry group which I understand is based in Lowell,

      • Jen Omalley
        August 14, 2015 at 10:49 am

Correction- it’s based in Billerica. I only
Used BHS as an example of a good
        Investment of arts funding…

      • Dude
        August 14, 2015 at 11:27 am

According to the Gofundme page, 3 of the 5 members of this particular team are Worcester residents (and possibly one more, though the bio only says central MA). So, the money is going towards sending these residents on a trip. Poetry Slam, Inc. is the name of the “parent company”. They are the coordinator for the smaller, local groups. “7HillsSlam” would be RBG’s group and they are the ones ultimately getting the money to go. So, no, the money is not going to Billerica, it is being used for Worcester.

          August 14, 2015 at 12:19 pm

So you’re saying that giving this idiot money is okay? WTF is wrong with you?

          • Dude
            August 14, 2015 at 2:04 pm

What I’m saying is that the money was used for residents of the city, which is what the money is supposed to be for. Despite your feelings toward him (as justified or unjustified as those feelings might be), they cannot be used in the decision process. The group consists of mostly Worcester residents, therefore, they have the right to solicit the funds. So, the question of “giving that idiot money is ok” is irreverent. I say it is ok to use city funds to support city residents.

Assuming the city should base it’s decisions solely on your viewpoint is exactly what you fault the hippies for doing. Don’t do that. Instead, make fair calls and sham those that need it when they do something wrong, not just because you don’t like them.

        • Jen O'Malley
          August 14, 2015 at 4:26 pm

Dude, I love that you tried to “clear things up”, thank you, but all you’ve done is make things more confusing for me. Did the money go to Poetry Slam Inc as a donation or is it being used to send three city residents on a trip? My point is that there are many cultural groups that I’m sure could use a donation at any given time- Art in the Park, Art on the Street, Park Spirit (concerts in Elm Park), Movies on the Common, First Night- to name a few. These groups all provide fantastic cultural experiences that are inclusive to all city residents both young and old.

          • Dude
            August 14, 2015 at 6:12 pm

Yeah, I kinda did. Let me summarize. The City of Worcester gave money to Poetry Slam, Inc. Poetry Slam then uses those funds to send the Worcester chapter of their group to some shindig in Oakland. There’s nothing really wrong with that. If this group didn’t have anything to do with the hippies, this article would have never existed. It’s only because RBG is in the group that this is something wrong.

        • JayC
          August 15, 2015 at 12:02 pm

It doesn’t make it any better that the money is distributed through a third party that clearly doesn’t do its homework or doesn’t care that they are associated with a criminal layabout who spews more violent thoughts than poetry. If what you say is true, it’s worse, because Poetry Slam essentially launders the taxpayers money and gives it to undeserving sketchy people. That means both the City and Poetry Slam are incompetent and not careful where and to who OUR money is paid.

Here’s what I see happening to Worcester eventually (unless change is made in the polls):

All the decent people who have had enough of this kind of BS will relocate to better towns.

Only the useless freeloading hippies and wanna-be gangsters will occupy the city.

They will suck every last resource the city has to offer.

Worcester becomes the next Central Falls RI – a bankrupt city filled with crime and violence.
