Two weeks ago we published this blog about how the data has proven that police in Worcester Public High Schools have been an indisputable success. Teachers like them, principals like them, and kids like them. Everyone’s a winner. Everyone except for Spanky McFarlane and the butthurt brigade.

In our blog we pointed out the very different way in which Masslive and Samantha Allen at the Turtlegram reported the same story. Sammy forgot to mention this part:

“Deputy Chief Sargent noted that before officers would have to come in and arrest students and the only interaction the kids would have with police would be negative. Now, Sargent noted, the officers are able to have positive interactions with the kids every single day.”

Kind of important, don’t ya think Sammy-poo?

Here was Spanky’s take on it today:

Maybe our reporter, Samantha Allen, had the wrong school system in mind when she deftly followed up Mr. Augustus’ declaration with the revelation that, according to newly released data from the Worcester Police Department, “The number of arrests reported at Worcester schools during school hours is the highest it’s been in the last five years.”

The data showed there were 22 school arrests in the 2014-15 school year, and that as of March 15, that threshold had already been reached this school year.

From that point on Spanky did what Spanky always does – complains that cops are arresting too many students of color for chewing gum too loudly in class. Except he forgot this one REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT part of the data:

“Figures released by the Police Department include adults who may have been arrested on school property as well as students arrested in the schools on warrants unrelated to school.”

So basically, adults and students with outstanding warrants are showing up in public schools. Instead of letting them continue to roam freely, the police officers do the job that the public pays them to do, and arrests scumbags with outstanding warrants. These arrests are now factored into the high number of arrests that have suddenly happened in schools.

Kind of an important statistic, don’t you think Clive?

Then he threw this gem in there:

“Schools have every right to hold disruptive youth accountable for their actions, however, criminalizing those actions and diverting kids away from school and into the juvenile or adult criminal justice systems are harmful to everyone,” the ACLU cautioned, while noting at the time that the Worcester arrests were significantly lower than for Springfield (in particular) and Boston.

Just admit it Clive. You are blinded by the fact that you were arrested by the Worcester Police in 2004 and you still haven’t gotten over it. I mean, you kind of admitted it a few years agoBut obviously no one will ever take your opinion about the police seriously, because you yourself are a criminal and don’t think laws apply to you either.

Here’s my question – who cares what anyone at the ACLU thinks about student discipline? They’re a private organization that goes to bat for pedophiles and thugs. And John Q. Public is supposed to give a shit what they have to say about anything? The ACLU is run by this man:

Screen-Shot-2016-01-12-at-11.14.30-AM

He has no kids, and no vested interest in the public schools. No one cares what some loser like Chris Robarge thinks about cops in schools.

Anyway, they’re obviously wrong. Schools don’t “criminalize” behavior by having cops in schools. To say that schools are “criminalizing” behavior, suggests that the actions students are being arrested for were NOT criminal in nature before cops were put in schools. But these things have always been against the law, they’re just being held accountable for their behavior for the first time. Naturally this personal responsibility and accountability scare the shit out of Sam Allen, Spanky, and the ACLU.

They’re just now being arrested for disrupting school because the public has demanded it. We demand a safe learning environment for our children. We demand that teachers be able to teach and not have to worry about breaking up fights or getting punched in the face. We demand that a few bad apples can’t disrupt the education that we all pay into with our tax dollars. We demand that any little junior savage in training that can’t comply with these simple standards be removed and treated like the criminal that they are.

So no, it is not “harmful to everyone” when kids who break the law and disrupt the learning environment are removed from school. It’s actually the exact opposite. It helps everyone. It gives the offenders the wake up call they need that school is not a magical fantasy land where laws cease to exist. And it gives the rest of the student body a healthy environment to learn. Anyone who opposes cops in the Worcester Public Schools hates kids and doesn’t want anyone to learn. End of story.

The bottom line is that this is the government the people want. We elected this School Committee and we demanded cops in our schools from our City Manager and Mayor after they initially resisted. Five or ten people are bitching and whining about it, because they obviously don’t understand how democracy works. We win. You lose. How does my turtle taste?

Clive is a total idiot. Why anyone would ever agree with him about anything is beyond me.

I know Clive is incapable of being objective, but maybe he can just consider for one minute, police being present in the most problematic schools has been the reason for the small spike in the number of arrests. Whereas before, I imagine by the time the police were called, sent to the school, and then were let inside, the unruly savage was no longer acting out. Makes no difference what race the disruptive student is!!!

Safe places apply only to hippies who want to be shielded from any challenge to their often illogical grievances not to young people tryingto learn.

About two weeks ago an assistant principal and a teacher were knocked to the floor by a 6 foot out of control student in Sullivan Middle School’s cafeteria. He should have been arrested, but after a short suspension he is back. We need more police in our schools.

If kids don’t feel safe at school, how are they supposed to be able to LEARN anything?

Let’s make sure schools are SAFE places so kids can LEARN. Anybody who doesn’t want to learn needs to GTFO and get a job.

Unless you child requires serious services, you’re silly to have them enrolled in ANY public school at ANY level, not just WPS. Even the towns have kids going therre who should in no wsy be allowed in school. Formerly, these kids were properly placed in alternative placements, that is now the rare exception. Parochial, private or even, yes, but to a lesser extent, charter schools are where your kids belong. If you have ANY way of paying for it, it’s worth every penny and every second of sacrifice. It pays back tenfold in your child’s life.

There are some great public schools in the area, you just have to move to those towns.

Maybe Wellsley. None in Central Mass. None at all. Not safe. The town fathers are lying to you if they tell you otherwise.

I think you should change, “How does my turtle taste?” To “How does my turtle dick taste?”.

    More appropriate for Mr McFarfetched.

I know, I know, family blog.

    Great article.

Within the first month of school, my son (7th grader at Forest Grove) was chocked for not giving a classmate the answers to the homework. I WISH that the police scared the shit out of that savage. Assaulted my son because of HOMEWORK?? It’s unreal how they’re protecting these brats!! Enough is enough!!

The reason the cops HAVE to address these school related issues is the fact that the schools are no longer allowed to address them themselves! Teachers are not allowed to take away gym, or art or a field trip or keep in from recess in lower grades, they are not permitted to impose ANY form of consequence for bad behavior. Administration cannot suspend, nor do most of them impose any disciplinary actions either. So Jr. runs wild with ZERO consequences, getting bolder and bolder til the point of contact with law enforcement.
Want to reduce school based arrests? Allow the teachers to impose discipline, and principals to suspend. Kids WANT discipline. Doesn’t anyone in charge realize that anymore?

Very well said, and accurate! The lack of consequences is the most troubling part of these early life lessons.
