Couldn’t Possibly Disagree More With This Former FBI Profiler Who Thinks The Vanessa Marcotte Killer Was A Random Pscyhopath Who Didn’t Know Her

It’s been more than three months since Vanessa Marcotte was murdered while jogging along Brooks Station Road in Princeton. No one has been arrested and the police have not announced that there are any suspects in the case. Last night Fox 25 aired this expose in which they interviewed former FBI profiler and current professor at George Mason University named Mary Ellen O’Toole. And personally, in our expert opinion she couldn’t possibly be more wrong:

How could it be a stranger? According to her theory it was some random psycho she didn’t know who just so happened to be driving through Princeton and saw an opportunity. She also thinks it’s someone local, which kind of doesn’t make any sense. If they’re local, then chances are they knew who Vanessa Marcotte was. Princeton isn’t a very big town.

The people who use Brooks Station Road the most are people who live in Princeton and Rutland. If you live in Rutland and you wanna get to Fitchburg, Leominster, or Princeton, that’s the road you’re going on. And that’s why I have a hard time believing this was random. Because it would mean the killer is most likely from Rutland. Let’s suppose the killer lives in Rutland and was on his way to Fitchburg to go to Five Guys. He sees a beautiful woman jogging and decides that he’d take a quick detour from getting lunch to rape and murder her? I don’t believe it.

But if it was some random guy, why the hell would he waste his time looking for someone to murder on Brooks Station Road in Princeton? Chances are you’re not gonna find anyone. It’s gotta be someone she knew. I’m starting to think it was someone from New York who was obsessed with her. He followed her back to her hometown and waited for his opportunity. Then he got out of dodge and has managed to avoid the attention of the police. But, then again, Turtleboy isn’t a professor at George Mason University, do what do we know?

A lot of people have messaged us with theories about this story. The most common theory is the killer is actually a dead person from the area. People have thrown at the same name to us repeatedly (of someone who is no longer alive), but we’re not gonna throw names out because that’s irresponsible. Plus, it doesn’t make any sense. There was DNA at the scene. If they thought a dead person killed her, they can test the DNA of a dead person, can’t they? Obviously it’s in the interest of the police to put the public at ease, and if they had a DNA match they’d be able to do that.

Anyway, I’m really hoping this doesn’t turn into a Molly Bish or a Patricia Gonyea. But every day this goes on it’s looking more and more like that’s exactly what is going to happen.

Turns out it was a random psychopath after all.

One problem I have with your NY killer theory is this- there are millions of people living there. Had she been killed there it would seem that the enormous suspect pool would make the case exponentially more difficult to solve. Not to mention that although there aren’t a lot of witnesses in a small town, anyone seeing so much as a random vehicle parked along the road (NY plates?) would be suspicious. Plus it was broad daylight. Too risky a scene when it could have been in the shadows in an alley in NY, which would have been all the more convenient for a NY killer

I’m sorry, but this woman is just speculating like everyone else, although she
made some very good points. Watch the whole thing.
This story has been bothering me since it happened, just like the Karina Vetrano case in NY.
I grew up near Hubbardston and know these towns like the back of my own hand.
If you wanted to kill someone, Princeton is the perfect place to dump a body where no one will
find it. If Vanessa’s murder was planned, I think the person would have been better “prepped,”
so to speak, as in carrying accelerant to burn her after, and a better place to hide her body.
The last witness to see Vanessa alive saw her talking on her phone, and just walking.
There was a news caster that talked to a resident nearby and they said they saw a
vehicle follow Vanessa on the road in which she was killed. It turned around on the road
and followed her again. The media and police never mentioned this, which I found odd.

I strongly believe it was a man who was driving through
He grabs her, maybe as she walks by, and assaults/fights and eventually strangles her,
which had to last at least 10-15 minutes.
Then he tries to get rid of any DNA evidence, by burning her.
It was a around 1-3 PM on a Sunday, so it probably wasn’t someone on their way home
from work. I bet everything it was a local, maybe living on that very street or nearby.
Had to have been, they just don’t want to say it. I hate to think it may take another
attack on someone to find a suspect.

I have to wonder if it was a Facebook “friend” that did this.

Many serial killers over years have indicated random murders and victims of opportunity.

DNA should be collected from everybody at birth and upon entering the United States. If they kept that information in a database, cases like this with strong DNA evidence would almost always be solved in a matter of hours.

With regard to DNA and assuming there was also a sexual assault. Investigators would still mostly be able to get DNA from a vaginal swab on a burnt body. Mosty meaning the severity of the remains. That assuming the act was vaginal penetration if sexual assault even occurred. I agree with your premise that vague information will be of no help but the investigators will take any relevant information she offers as it is better than nothing. I just think everything she outlined – investigators during their many team backs have already considered.

One point of this article I absolutely agree with is to keep this story alive. This reporter’s assessment is that if the story fades then so does the tips calling in. In that regard yes keep us all posted and keep it alive. Fox News is good in my opinion for staying with serious criminal stories like this better than anybody else in the Boston media print or otherwise.

I watched this segment on Fox 25 and it seemed to me that the Expert was ambiguous about a lot of her theory…and almost outright contradicting her own findings. First of all the statement “She may have been sexually assaulted…” is a pretty big What if…and probably a critical component of putting together a profile of this killer…Because is there was no sexual assault then I guess we could be looking for a jealous woman…I really hope that they know (of course they do) if a sexual assault occurred…This is probably a fact that is not public for whatever reason, but for this profiler to not have this information and form a conclusion, or to have this information and feign ignorance of the fact while drawing her conclusions is misleading. The fox 25 profiler uses a lot of suppositions…and does not make any concrete statements. It sounds as ambiguous as a visit to a psychic.

If they have DNA they know gender, race, traits etc. There was another murdered runner with a similar set of circumstances in NY (Karina Vetrano) where they have DNA but no matches…Obviously they would be able to match or exclude a correlation based on comparing the 2 samples. This alone could end a lot of speculation people have.

That leads me to wonder if they don’t actually have any DNA for this case and they are just bluffing.
Did the burning of the body destroy the DNA evidence? How was the body burned? It’s got to be kind of difficult to just burn up all the DNA evidence on a body in the woods. Was an accelerate used? Did they do petroleum fingerprinting on the accelerant to identify any unique hydrocarbons or additives that could link it to a specific gasoline brand that’s not found in the area? The circumstances of the burning of the body (again not known/discussed by the profiler) are also critical. If there was an accelerant involved that means it wasn’t someone just walking along randomly murdering a jogger…It means someone had a container of accelerant (in a vehicle) that they carried and poured and lit. Even if it were just a brush fire the mere possession of a lighter is a clue…

So many questions about this that need to be answered before a retired profiler can give an unimpressive broad brush picture of who the suspect MIGHT be…

There could be so many plausible theories in this case ranging from a random opportunistic act to a planned attack on a known target. Mary Ellen O’Toole’s theory is just that, one theory. I saw that piece on Fox and in my opinion there is nothing that she said that investigators have not already considered.

If I had one cock for every time you made a blanket statement that is common sense, I would have a bag full of dicks to slap your face with… repeatedly like a broken record…bang bang bang…right in the kisser. How much fun would you have?

Answer: Heaven. You would be in dick Heaven. Instead of clouds there would be dicks to sit on, and you would try out every seat like people do at a mattress store. Only with dicks… lots of dicks.

You mean exactly what you did by replying without any input? The irony.

Sorry, I have nothing to say about a woman who throws out random and baseless ideas pertaining to a serious murder. What’s important is for the killer to be caught, not some slug getting her 10 minutes of fame.

I grew up in Princeton and am only a couple years older and had no idea who Vanessa is. Like her, I moved away at 18 and never returned.

Your assumption that everyone knows everyone there isn’t entirely true. Everyone’s pretty isolated and mind their own business. Those who grow up going to private schools (like her) really never interact with those in the public schools unless the parents make the extra effort beyond driving them to and from their private school (and associated circle of friends) in other towns.

There’s a lot of weirdos in and around the town though so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a crime of opportunity.

This Mary Ellen O’Toole got her name out there with the interview and whatever unfounded theory she put forth.
She served her interest by making herself relevant for a few minutes. This will soon be added to her C.V. and her “rep” will be reinforced in the academic community. She served her purpose – for herself.
Meanwhile …… the murder goes unsolved, and it certainly isn’t going to get solved anytime soon with information from her.
I doubt Ms. O’Toole has ever been to Princeton.
