Dickhead of the Month: Cenk Uygur

If you aren’t familiar with this month’s dickhead, allow me to introduce you.  Cenk Uygur is a lawyer turned political activist who when he isn’t entering “Fat Mark Cuban” look-alike contests personifies the hypocrisy and elitism of the New American Left.

Uygur is a product of the very same Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania which produced our current president.  He later earned a juris doctor from Columbia.  In other words, he’s certainly not a dumb guy, but as you’re going to find out, he can say some really dumb things.

Anyway, back in the school days, Uygur was a conservative who supported and wrote about such views.  He was critical of affirmative action, feminism, was decidedly “pro-life,” and was a staunch defender of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas during the witch-hunt his Senate confirmation hearings became.

But then came the day when Uygur decided he wanted a career in the media and he knew there was no chance of getting anywhere with that if he was a conservative.  That’s when an amazing metamorphosis occurred.

Uygur has enjoyed success in the lame-stream media, having founded a liberal political and entertainment show known as The Young Turks which aired on Sirius Satellite Radio and later gained a billion views on YouTube. Uygur was also hired by MSNBC as a contributor and substitute anchor.

As you would expect, to even be considered by a place like MSNBC, Uygur had to become the prototypical liberal.  That meant all of a sudden he became ardently pro-choice, pro-feminist,  and is now the driving force behind Justice Democrats; an organization dedicated to taking the Democratic Party even further left (if that’s even possible)  in the model driven by the progressive, “social democratic” campaign run by Bernie Sanders.

The conventional wisdom is that a guy who wants to lead America’s transition into being a socialist “paradise” would believe the egalitarian line about helping the “the little guy.” But this Tweet in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and what it did to south Texas says everything but that.

This is a shockingly dumb thing to say for a guy with two scoops of Ivy League education.  I’m not even going to address the obvious “climate change” crap in this; that debate only clouds what’s happening here.  I’m not even getting into what obvious political pandering this is.  Instead, I’m focusing on how that Tweet illustrates the economic illiteracy of the New American Left.

Uygur’s position about not helping oil companies sounds good at first if you subscribe to the Sanders-ish economic view that all big business is somehow evil. The problem is that this only illustrates the elitism and its inherent disconnect from the average American. Here’s why.

Think for a moment about who Uygur wants to punish.  His intention is about sticking it to “big oil,” but his suggested action does nothing but shift the burden on to the “little people.”

Let’s take Uygur’s concept to it’s logical conclusion. Uygur’s idea of sticking it to oil companies would have a huge negative effect on the economy.  If Uygur gets his way and we gave no assistance to helping oil companies which suffered at the hands of the hurricane, they would be forced to dedicate their resources to re-building their infrastructure rather than refining crude oil into the myriad of products used used in a corresponding assortment of industries. That means across the board, prices in all those industries are going to rise because their cost of raw materials rose.

Without going into the details of which industries and which products, let’s just cut to the easiest to understand and therefore the most plainly obvious. The people most hurt by Uygur’s economic illiteracy are the same he proposes to help with his socialist nonsense.

The most obvious consequence of a rise in the costs of refining crude oil is a rise in the price of gasoline.  Let’s say the price at the pump doubles. That won’t hurt a guy like Uygur who is a multi-millionaire.  It would be a minor inconvenience for me because I bring home a solid income, don’t drive a big vehicle, and don’t live 40 miles from my job.

But this puts serious pain to the “little” guy the economic illiterates like Uygur pretend to care about.  I know a guy who does landscaping for a living.  Lawnmowers, leaf blowers, and the trucks used to haul them all run on gasoline, and if the price at the pump doubles, all of a sudden this guy can’t pay his bills.  How about the single mother trying to raise two kids who need to fill her mini-van twice a week to take her kids to school and to get to her job?  I’d be willing to bet many pf you reading this right now fall into that category.

This is why I have zero trust in leftists when it comes to economics.  But what sets Uygur apart is he knows better.  He’s waving the banner of the New American Left because he’s getting paid to do so, and while he’s doing that, he’s pushing ideas that will only put the screws to the average working-class American.

Is there a better definition of a dickhead than that?

Not for nothing but my Dominican born friend brought up President Trump to me last night and I was pleasantly surprised by his opinion and point of view about present day America.

His words NOT mine. “I don’t support Trump, however I do not despise him. He’s a business man vs. A politician so he makes swift and non personal decisions with the best monetary benefit in mind. He puts America on a pedastool and sincerely beleives as well as preaches that AMERICA IS THE GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH! He doesn’t let anyone “fuck” with him or his mission (he will fire them & keep it moving forward!! No questions asked, America’s best interest put first!! ”

I typically don’t bring up politics as small talk because Americans are typically very passionate about their views expressed through freedom of speech & 9 x out of 10 it ends in a pointless stupid argument. However, my Dominican friend opened up and told me how he felt about “Trump’s America” & it was refreshing! Not because I agree but Because he actually formed HIS OWN ORIGINAL OPINION…not some SJW agenda or some “woe is me” pity party. He shut up & LISTENED with an OPEN MIND which resulted in an educated stance on our country’s direction and leader in 2017.

Why can’t all AMERICANS (soil born AND immigrants) just listen with no biased Pre-judgements and assumed conclusions?? Try to be chilk like (not childish-cuz that aint cute ) and open minded, non-judgemental towards your neighbors. Don’t cement your political views…be quiet & really listen for once you might learn something

Until then, GOD BLESS TRUMP’S AMERICA …we are in this together in the greatest nation on earth!!

Repatriating dollars should be a business decision. Fixing the tax system to level the corporate playing field with our foreign friends, making that decision a no-brainer, should be on the fabulous 500 and our billionaire boys club…but they are out fucking off as usual

Economic illiteracy is rampant, even in people who should know better. There are plenty who don’t, like the “fight for $15” and “living wage for a no skill, bad employee” crowds.

Unfortunately, these people with a child like mind’s understanding of economics also hold public office.

I was going to bring up the $15-an-hour as another example of the left’s economic illiteracy, but you already did.

$15-an-hour does little more than make everything more expensive, and shortly after implemented, will leave these workers no better off than they were before.

Have to disagree with you on this one.

The “government” giving money to big oil costs us just as much as if they do not. Probably more, actually.

That “bag of cash” has to come from somewhere. It isn’t coming from Mexico. It’s coming from US Taxpayers. Or, technically, your kids and grandkids, since they’re the ones who are going to have to pay for all the out-of-control spending that exists in Washington today.

Oil companies make billions in profit. And they have insurance. They do not need handouts from the government.

Using the convoluted logic in your post, I’m pretty sure there are many people who will be getting federal assistance who dont pay federal taxes. So, they shouldn’t get federal assistance, also. Correct?

Exxon pays over 30 billion a year in income taxes. From where I stand, I wish they made trillions in profits.

And, luv the the j-dub. 2 days in a row!

Worthless renewables like solar and wind get subsidies, oil does not. What the kooks claim as “bags of cash” is just tax depreciation, given to all businesses who have to buy capital equipment. They get to write it off over a period of years.

Meanwhile solar and wind get money directly from Dept of Energy and other agencies. So they can produce electricity at a higher cost than oil, gas, nuclear and coal. Most of these renewable companies eat cash and fail (Solyndra) but their executives exit rich and do it again. Those solar fields the Communist Patrick Deval shoved up our ass that you see all over the State? Chinese. Subsidized.

So, the next time your grandmother has to decide on eating or paying her electric bill, you have the “green energy” movement to thank.
