WHDHA babysitter hired through a caregiver website was arrested Wednesday in Arlington for allegedly for being drunk and high while watching a young boy. Police said they were called to Egerton Road at around 1:30 p.m. after a resident reported seeing a woman stumbling around the roadway with a young boy in tow.

“The little boy was about 20 feet behind her, tagging along behind her,” said witness Matthew Wolfe. “She didn’t look like she was paying attention to him.”

Responding officers said the woman, 51-year-old Susan Devereaux, smelled strongly of alcohol and was trying to enter the wrong house. They also allegedly found empty bottles of alcohol in Devereaux’s car. Police said she had consumed several alcoholic beverages and taken prescription drugs earlier in the day. Police contacted the boy’s mother, who came home to reunite with her 3-year-old son. She told police she hired the babysitter back in the spring through Care.com, a website that matches families with babysitters. The mother said they had used the babysitter several times through Care.com and later by reaching out to her directly. In a statement, Care.com expressed its concern for the family.

“This incident is deeply disturbing, and we are thankful that the child is now back with his family. We have proactively reached out to local authorities to assist in the investigation in any way we can. Safety is of paramount importance to Care.com and when any safety incident occurs, it hits us very hard. Our thoughts are with this family tonight.”

Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan said police learned that Devereaux has a criminal record, having been previously arrested for stolen property and motor vehicle violations. He urged families to be extra vigilant when hiring babysitters and caregivers, especially online.

Alright, first of all, it’s the family’s fault. When you order a babysitter ONLINE and then this woman shows up:

You need to tell her to go home and cancel your dinner plans. I can smell the booze and stale cigarettes on her from here.

But more importantly, what kind of bootleg company is Care.com? Safety is of paramount importance to them? Oh, OK. That explains why they just decided that a criminal background check on a babysitter for hire was unnecessary. I mean, why screen the people that you’re gonna be selling off to strangers to watch over their most prized possessions?

Oh, and here’s the best part – the babysitter is denying it:

“It was absolutely nothing,” Susan Devereaux told the Herald yesterday through a cracked door at her Medford home. “I’m telling you nothing happened — it was nothing.”

What exactly she’s denying, we’re not sure. But she’s definitely denying something. The bottom line was it was absolutely nothing. So she was wandering around a wealthy town with a little kid she’s supposed to be watching, and she accidentally tried going into the wrong house. All these houses look alike anyway. Plus, it was the voices telling her to do it:

And if you have a problem with that then you’re an asshole:

So yea, the bottom line is anyone who orders a babysitter offline is just begging for a stumblin drunk from Medford to lose their three year old and try breaking into your neighbor’s home.

This web service sounds just like Uber. Wanna drive strangers around to make money, maybe get a peice of ass doing it ? No pre-screening of drivers…now every day you hear of a new case of sexuall assault by a drive in the news. These so called businesses need to be held responsible for their employees actions.

I use Care.com. I had a bad experience with a close relative I had trusted; statistically, most child abuse happens with a relative. There are plenty of college girls studying education and psychology you can choose from on the website, with references. I’m not sure what happened here…discount babysitter?

I’m a mom. I know it’s inconceivable based off my smart ass replies here (only to people who deserve it). I’m loving, caring, and kind, too. How crazy is that????? I’m a human being.

My personality on this blog is similar to my personality in person, minus some of the vulgarity. I won’t lie I do curse, but not anywhere near the level I do on here. Nor am I mean. I’m actually quiet and avoid conversation. If I’m ever spotted talking to someone for more than 5 minutes, it means that person is very interesting or funny and holds my attention long enough…. very rare.

I dont understand how people feel so comfortable allowing strangers near their children. This scenario was 100% avoidable. If you cant find a close family member who is responsible to babysit, then you just cant go out… thats it. Thats called being a parent and sacrificing. Never will you catch me using a babysitter service, ever! I can count on one hand the people who I would allow to watch my child for a few hours. I’m still paranoid with them as well, and that’s nothing against their character it’s just who I am. When the hubby and I do a night out, or a few hours at foxwoods, we always wait until our child is sleeping before we leave. It makes it easier for my brain, as well as easier for the family member because all they have to do is keep their ears on alert just in case.

I’m ultra paranoid for my childs safety, so… I’m probably way worse than most parents lol.

This bitch….. I hope she doesn’t have kids of her own!

Feisty – it’s OK to be paranoid: you only have to be right once.

My kids are all “growed” up. We were happily married for three years. The problem: we were married for thirty five… But we did agree on a few things: we’d sever a limb for our kids. Stupid apps like care.com didn’t exist, neighbors did and their daughters were used when we needed a night out. Growing up I was a babysitter – yes, weird for a 14 year old boy to babysit little kids but I was a bit more mature than the other pimply faced pubescent kids in the neighborhood and I intended to invest my money, not blow it. Made enough to help my parents who were struggling.

Back in the 60’s there were just as many perverts as there are today and twice as many drunks. The difference is that the neighborhood took care of things without the involvement of Law Enforcement. I wish we could go back that way.

Parents have an obligation to raise their children safely. TB has a ripe field of pickings to shame those that don’t. Sad.

I’m sure things back then were just as prevalent as they are today. We hear so much about it now because of social media. My mother used a babysitter for us, but she was a nice old lady. Strict as a mofo, but nice…lol.

The first time I we went out to dinner kid free was at 10 months old. I asked my best friend (my childs Godmother) one simple question, “What’s my address?” She looked at me like I was insane. She said she obviously knows where I live because she is standing in my house. My reply? Well, if you need an ambulance or the police, where are you sending them? She got my point. I wrote it down and put it on the fridge…

Thats one simple question that most people don’t think to ask. It’s a very important question if your home doesn’t have a landline that can be traced to the exact address. Even if you do have a landline, most people will reach for their cell. I don’t remember door addresses all of the time, I go by memory of how to drive there lol.

As you said, it only takes one time to be right, and I don’t want to test those waters.

I hope TB stays on this path. These parents get away with pretending they are loving and kind on FB, fooling their family and friends… NO MORE I SAY! Fuck em!
