Update: The Easton Police have responded and released the name of the woman who is now charged with child abandonment.

Don’t you hate it when you go to Target to pick up some stuff and you accidentally leave your baby there for over an hour? It’s the worst…..

Just to review. The call came at 1:00 PM that a baby was left in the shopping carriage. It was not until 2:07 PM that one of these guttermuppets snapped out of it and realized that they forgot the tax credit in the parking lot. Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR adults forgot this child. Translation – they were high as a kite and too doped up to remember to take that thing that cries and shits itself all the time. I was going to assume they were from Brockton, because people like this don’t live in Easton. They just go to Easton because too many stores in Brockton have already banned them. But evidently their plates were from Maine, which is basically Brockton with moose and English.

Look, I can’t tell you how many times when I first had a baby I’d be driving along and look in the rearview mirror to make sure the baby was there. It’s like my worst nightmare that I would leave Turtlegirl Jr. at the gas station and then I’d have to blog about myself. But he was always there because I’m not some south shore guttermuppet who leaves her baby in a parking lot.

However, the mere fact that I even think about this is a maternal instinct. Do you understand how fucked up you have to be for FOUR ADULTS to not realize that they forgot the baby at Target for over an hour???!!!

I figured no one would be brave enough to defend this All-Star parent patrol, but alas someone gave it a shot:

Forgetting a baby at Target is not some normal experience any good parent goes through. Hell, there was a police chase last month where the mother crashed her car with the baby on board, and then fled on foot……..AND EVEN SHE REMEMBERED THE BABY!!!!

Yet the Easton Police did not release the names of the four adults, nor did they mention any of them being arrested. Then they issued this press release today:

Chief Gary Sullivan reports that the Easton Police Department has charged a Maine mother with abandoning her son after the 17-month-old boy was left in a shopping carriage in a parking lot over the weekend. A 27-YEAR-OLD WOMAN FROM ACTON, MAINE was charged with Abandonment/Endangerment of a Child. She is scheduled to appear in Taunton District Court at a later date. Her identity is being withheld to protect the identification of the victim in this case.

While investigating the incident, Easton Police received a call at approximately 2 p.m. from a male party reporting that the child had been left behind in the parking lot accidentally. The caller was with the CHILD’S MOTHER in Plymouth and said they were going to head back to Easton.

In subsequently speaking with detectives, the CHILD’S MOTHER said that after leaving Target she returned to her vehicle, along with three friends, and believed that one of her friends had secured her son in his rear-facing car seat. She then traveled to Plymouth in her vehicle, while her friends left in a separate vehicle. Upon arriving in Plymouth, the CHILD’S MOTHER realized that her son was not in the car seat.

The Easton Police Department notified the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, which launched its own investigation. In coordination with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, DCF granted custody of the child to the MOTHER later that evening.

Wait…..what??? DCF granted custody of the child back to the mother?? DCF really is the most useless organization that has ever existed. The mother said she didn’t realize it until she got back to Plymouth. This is how long it takes to get from Easton to Plymouth:

Forty one minutes. Yet they waited over an hour to call.

This is the part that really pissed me off:

Her identity is being withheld to protect the identification of the victim in this case.

Why are the Easton Police protecting this woman? We called them up today to ask them for the name of the woman, since it’s public record and she is being charged in court. They told us they were bound by law NOT to release her name because then you’d be able to figure out the name of her child (the victim), which is completely untrue. If that were true then the news wouldn’t be allowed to broadcast the name of ANYONE arrested for child abuse. After all, we might find out the name of their child.

When we told the lady in records that other police departments do this all the time, she told us they were breaking the law, which is once again clearly not true. It happens all thetime. 

Do the Easton Police really not understand how the law works, or are they just covering up for this woman? Because the fact that she got her kid back like nothing happened still has me baffled. I certainly hope it’s the former, and I have faith in the police that it is.

The bottom line is that this woman should not have gotten her baby back, there was no excuse for forgetting the child at Target, her story doesn’t add up to begin with, and the police should stop protecting this woman and release her name.
