For years now we’ve been told that Worcester is a city on the rise. Thanks to a bunch of hotels and other fancy looking buildings being erected downtown, we are turning into the emerald city. And it’s all because of the vision of career politician and former Congressman Jim McGovern aide, City Manager Ed Augustus. A guy who accepted the $250,000 a year job reluctantly as a temporary fill-in (despite having no management background), said he did not want the job full time, and then was voted into the job by all his close friends on the City Council anyway.

But it’s all just smoke and mirrors. The reality is that the second you pull into Worcester you see this:

They are everywhere. At the corner of Park Ave and Chandler street you have to get there early to panhandle or else all the corners are occupied. This is what people see when they come into Worcester. This is what is being ignored. The heart of the City Square project is right where Green Street empties out McGrath Boulevard. That tunnel is where 99% of these panhandlers go to shoot up and defecate. Here’s a video shot the other day of two lovebirds throwing each other’s shit into the middle of the street:

This is the way many people will come to do business in Worcester when they get off at Kelley Square. This is what they will see. Why would anyone want to subject themselves to this? Sure, it’s amusing. But don’t sit here and try to tell me that Worcester will ever be anything worth talking about so long as these people are here.

Last night at the City Council meeting the 11 Councilors did their annual review of Ed Augustus. Spoiler alert – he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread:

What was the point of this? No matter what he does he’s going to get the highest rating possible. Because that’s how things work in the McGovern Crime Family. Jim Polito uses that term a lot in a facetious manner, but it actually exists. Jim McGovern is an entrenched Worcesterite who democrats like because he brings home the bacon from Washington. Then he doles it out to his people and now they owe him loyalty. Augustus is high up in the crime family because he’s put his time in. Joe Petty is his loyal soldier who would never even THINK about having a public opinion that was different from Uncle Jimmy. The rest of the Council falls in line under Petty because they know that they don’t get the financial support of the crime family without it.

You need look no further than the oral stimulation he received last night from the Council members:

Sarai Rivera: “I just want to say thank you. I can not say thank you eneough for all that you do. You are the unsung heroes of this city.”

Nice to see she’s taken a break from talking about penis on the council floor.

He’s not just a good manager. He’s a freaking HERO!! She actually said that. Meanwhile her district looks like hell on earth. There’s trash and junkies everywhere that she does nothing to correct. She owns a “church” in her district that is a dangerous eyesore and she attempted to use her influence on the Council to have the city pay for it to be razed.

Kate Toomey: “We’re very grateful for your leadership. Fewer arrests, robberies, shootings. They all contribute to people feeling safer in their neighborhoods.”

Kate Toomey is the definition of useless. She’s a very low ranking member in the rime family who has no real opinions of her own. But obviously anyone who lives in Worcester could tell you that they don’t feel safe outside of the West Side. Ask people who actually live in Main South how safe they feel. Of course she wouldn’t understand this from her cocoon of white privilege.

Gary Rosen: “I only wish he’ll stay another three years after this contract expires. My overall rating for the city manager would be outstanding.”

Puke.

Tony Economou: “If you don’t see what’s going on around us what’s happening in the city. You truly have your head in the sand.”

He literally started crying during this. Not even kidding. He burst into tears. You cannot make this stuff up. Ed Augustus is so good at his job it will make you cry. And anyone who disagrees that Worcester is not on the up and up has their head in the sand. They are dismissing any sort of criticism, which makes it impossible to improve.

Moe Bergman: “It goes without saying that the city manager exceeds expectations in economic development. Delivery of public services. Exceeds expectations.”

Delivery of services EXCEEDS expectations. Meanwhile this is what the City of Worcester looks like on recycling day:

10945770_242543672759415_8729335412578026448_n

Of course there is a simple fix to this:

20130627_Trash3

But we’re not going to do that because the manager is already exceeding expectations. Why fix something that isn’t broken?

Candy Carlson: “We have the best quality of life team here in the city of Worcester and that’s because of your leadership.”

Leadership? This is a guy who has appointed people to the Citizen’s Advisory Committee who publicly have stated that they will be ignoring his demand to not ask people about what blogs they read when applying for city jobs. That’s leadership? Because to me leadership would require LEADING, and telling subordinates that if they don’t follow his rules they will be replaced.

Speaking of economic development, Mambo Drink is home to gang activity, underage drinking, and constant brawls that end with police officers getting injured. And what did Ed Augustus do to exercise his leadership skills? He got punked by Mambo Mafia when they showed up in wife beaters at a Canal District meeting, played the race card, and forced Ed to say that it was not their fault.

Yup, we have the best quality of life. Just ask the children who get out of school and are forced to look at this nutjob’s dong.

Joe Petty: “I think we have a cultural and economic renaissance in the city.”

This is what a “cultural and economic renaissance” looks like:

Two junkies throwing each other’s urine soaked clothing into traffic. Culture.

But Ed Augustus has completely failed when it has come to controlling the people he in charge of. His DPW Chief, Paul Moosey, has failed time and time again to clear Worcester’s roads. This winter was just as bad as the previous years. This is what Worcester’s roads looked like at the town line:

Guess which side Worcester is. Unreal that anyone would consider this satisfactory. Unfreaking real.

Then there was that time Ed Augustus put a parking ban in effect at 1 AM, towed 300 people’s cars while they were sleeping, and then reimbursed them for his fuck up with taxpayer money. Awesome leadership. The list goes on and on and one.

Finally George “Jabba the Hut” Russell chimed in about the CAC controversy:

George Russell: It’s not the managers job – staff and the city manager should not be telling board members how to vote on anything.”

It’s not the city managers job to make sure the people he appoints to boards are doing the job he tells them to do. That’s what this troglodyte just said. Just look at this slob:

Kissing Uncle Jimmy’s ass so he brings home the bacon.

As usual there are only two out of the 11 that have are not blindly loyal to Jim McGovern, think about the taxpayers first, and are not afraid to speak out – Konnie Lukes and Michael Gaffney. Konnie roasted him good:

Konnie Lukes: “CAC cried out for leadership – failure to take management control of situation – There are over 2 dozen boards and commissions that require participation – there are 28 open slots. 70 appointments were made to boards and commissions. Responsibility of CAC significant. In June 8, a clear violation. A qualified attorney treated in disparate manner. According to established interview procedures. The meeting of CAC followed by revelations of conflict of interest, insubordination. As a result of his silence, the manager may have allowed the wrong message to be delivered to the public. They must be prepared to be punished for exercising freedom of speech. Qualified members of the public may not apply. Manager knew and failed to take corrective action, his failure to act requires a failing mark. He needs to act as a manager and manage. He must correct the problem, forthwith – Needs improvement.

So did Gaffney: ‪If 104% growth ($2.9 billion) in non taxable property with 11% tax increases, “exceeds expectations,” adjust your expectations.‬ Any mention of reducing taxes or spending is met with fierce opposition, while every opportunity to increase spending is heralded as an investment.”

In other words, Ed Augustus has added TONS of non-profits under his tenure. But non-profits don’t pay taxes. That’s not economic development. Non-profits cost the taxpayer’s money, and they are ALWAYS run by the same people who ran the disgraced Mosaic Cultural Complex. A group that would still be getting money and committing fraud were it not for our blogs and Councilors Lukes and Gaffney.

So yea, there’s really no point in even doing an evaluation. It doesn’t really matter how crappy a job Ed Augustus has done. No matter what happens he won’t just meet expectations, he will exceed them.

The only way to fix this is in November people. We need common sense people on the Council, and we have three opportunities to fix that:

Mayor: Replace Joe Petty with Mike Gaffney.

District 5: Replace Gary Rosen with Paul Franco.

District 4: Replace Sarai Rivera with Coreen Gaffney.

District 3: Replace George Russell with Davis Asare (yea, Turtleboy is supporting the African immigrant over the entrenched white guy, but we’re the racist ones)

We urge you to support the Turtleboy Sponsors by doing business with them. Without them none of this is possible. Click on any of them to check out their sites or Facebook pages.

I wish I could vote in Worcester but glad I can’t. As a resident of a neighboring town it’s like their septic is overflowing and no one will do anything. Please think of your neighbors and vote the TB ticket.

I don’t frequently go to Worcester but I had to pick up a family member from Logan on Saturday night at 11:30 pm as we drove towards home we searched for a 24 restaurant like a Denny’s which we couldn’t find but Google alerted us of a dinner in Worcester that was open 24 hours long story short we took a wrong turn and got to tour the entire city of Worcester at 12:30 am buy the time we found the dinner no one wanted to get out of the car, We had seen Enough!!! Cultural mecca it is Not!! People have the right to feel safe in their community, we left Worcester Thankful we don’t live there!!! Oh and still hungry! I Hope that change happens in November not just for the sake of the Residents of the city but Those that would like to go there, we did drive by many places that were closed at that time that looked totally cool and made us wish to go back in the daytime, but unfortunately the bad outweighed the good to the extent that we would probably not return until major changes have been made!!

Its absolutely disgusting how corrupt Worcester is. We COULD have a beautiful city, but, the Novicks, Petty’s, Augustus’s, Rivera’s, McGovern’s of the city make it impossible. I live on the West Side. Crime in our area is on the rise, and FAST. It’s enraging

If the West Side can’t have their trash picked-up properly then you know it’s over. It doesn’t help that only 10% of Worcester’s registered voters will show up to the polls this Nov.

My advice to Turtleboy would be to dig as deep as possible on these clowns in city government and find the dirt. You know there’s dirty dirt there… Ask the Turtle Nation for tips.
Feed it to the Public Corruption Unit Special Agents at the FBI’s Worcester satellite office and the Boston field office in Chelsea.
To hell with the Commonwealth AG’s office, those fuckers all scratch each other’s backs. The FBI doesn’t play golf with ANY of those assholes. They’ll take people down if they deserve to go down.

I completely agree. I really want to see more TB articles exposing these frauds and hucksters in the city government that caused this town to fall deep into the well it’s stuck in now.

Never mind the FBI. You need to go to the US Attorney’s office in Boston. William D. Weinreb is the current interim US Attorney for Massachusetts, and is best known for prosecuting marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. I think some corruption cases in the state’s second biggest city would be good buzz for him as he jockey’s for the job on a permanent basis.
