Everyone’s been talking about this article from Gizmodo, which proves what we’ve been saying for months now – Facebook arbitrarily decides what pages stay up and what don’t based on their political affiliation. A former Facebook employee freely admitted that the topics that appear on Facebook’s “trending” bar aren’t necessarily the most popular topics of that day. In other words, Facebook is LYING once again about how their publicly traded company operates:

Facebook workers routinely suppressed news stories of interest to conservative readers from the social network’s influential “trending” news section, according to a former journalist who worked on the project. This individual says that workers prevented stories about the right-wing CPAC gathering, Mitt Romney, Rand Paul, and other conservative topics from appearing in the highly-influential section, even though they were organically trending among the site’s users.

Former Facebook Workers: We Routinely Suppressed Conservative News

Several former Facebook “news curators,” as they were known internally, also told Gizmodo that they were instructed to artificially “inject” selected stories into the trending news module, even if they weren’t popular enough to warrant inclusion—or in some cases weren’t trending at all. The former curators, all of whom worked as contractors, also said they were directed not to include news about Facebook itself in the trending module.

In other words, Facebook’s news section operates like a traditional newsroom, reflecting the biases of its workers and the institutional imperatives of the corporation. Imposing human editorial values onto the lists of topics an algorithm spits out is by no means a bad thing—but it is in stark contrast to the company’s claims that the trending module simply lists “topics that have recently become popular on Facebook.”

The former curator was so troubled by the omissions that they kept a running log of them at the time; this individual provided the notes to Gizmodo. Among the deep-sixed or suppressed topics on the list: former IRS official Lois Lerner, who was accused by Republicans of inappropriately scrutinizing conservative groups; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker; popular conservative news aggregator the Drudge Report; Chris Kyle, the former Navy SEAL who was murdered in 2013; and former Fox News contributor Steven Crowder. “I believe it had a chilling effect on conservative news,” the former curator said.

Managers on the trending news team did, however, explicitly instruct curators to artificially manipulate the trending module in a different way: When users weren’t reading stories that management viewed as important, several former workers said, curators were told to put them in the trending news feed anyway. Several former curators described using something called an “injection tool” to push topics into the trending module that weren’t organically being shared or discussed enough to warrant inclusion—putting the headlines in front of thousands of readers rather than allowing stories to surface on their own. In some cases, after a topic was injected, it actually became the number one trending news topic on Facebook.

I love how people are surprised by this. Seriously, pay attention morons. We’ve been saying this for MONTHS now. There is one slight difference though. When Turtleboy’s pages get shut down it’s because a human being didn’t actually review the reported posts that butthurt trolls have reported. They just mass report posts for “nudity and sexual violence” and eventually the computer at Facebook will think it’s a legitimate complaint and suspends our account:

We are hardly the only ones who have experienced this arbitrary censorship which cannot be appealed because human beings do not work in customer service at Facebook:

What Facebook is doing to conservative outlets like Steven Crowder is different though. This is a deliberate attempt by real, live Facebook employees, to manipulate and lie about what topics are trending. Facebook has every right to do this if they want to. But they don’t have the right to lie about it to their investors and advertisers. Steven Crowder has paid Facebook several times for promotional and sponsored posts. And in return they suppressed his links. This is fraud. This is against a shitload of really good laws.  And as a result Steven Crowder is suing Facebook now.

That’s been our beef with Facebook since day one – they are dirty, filthy liars. And they are a publicly traded company which makes what they are doing against the law.

Here’s the best part:

That same curator said the Black Lives Matter movement was also injected into Facebook’s trending news module. “Facebook got a lot of pressure about not having a trending topic for Black Lives Matter,” the individual said. “They realized it was a problem, and they boosted it in the ordering. They gave it preference over other topics. When we injected it, everyone started saying, ‘Yeah, now I’m seeing it as number one’.” This particular injection is especially noteworthy because the #BlackLivesMatter movement originated on Facebook, and the ensuing media coverage of the movement often noted its powerful social media presence.

The black lives matter terrorists weren’t getting enough media attention and people weren’t sharing their stories on Facebook. But since Mark Zuckerberg has publicly supported this racist terrorist groupthey were artificially inserted as a trending topic. Luckily Facebook launched an investigation of themselves and determined that they weren’t doing what was alleged:

There have been other anonymous allegations — for instance that we artificially forced ‪#‎BlackLivesMatter‬ to trend. We looked into that charge and found that it is untrue.

Case closed.

Naturally they also suppressed stories about their own company, especially if it was critical of them:

When it was a story about the company, we were told not to touch it,” said one former curator. “It had to be cleared through several channels, even if it was being shared quite a bit. We were told that we should not be putting it on the trending tool.”

If the Department of Justice actually wanted to do its job then they’d be investigating the most powerful company in the United States for fraud. But this is a company that donates millions to the people who currently run this country. So they’re safe, despite the fact that they create zero jobs and are essentially an unregulated monopoly. This is the boggie-man that Liz Warren claims she wants to go after, but yet here they are and she says nothing. And instead the DOJ is suing the state of North Carolina so that people with penises can shower in the women’s locker at the YMCA.

This is just yet another example of the intolerance of the tolerance crowd. They want diversity of skin color, gender, and ethnicity, but not diversity of thought. The bottom line is that Facebook cannot continue like this. People use Facebook because they trust it. People invest with Facebook because they trust it. But time and time again they are revealed to be nothing more than lying, politically biased activists. Eventually a new social media will come along that doesn’t censor posts, actually employs people in customer service, and doesn’t lie to the public and their investors. And it will put Facebook out of business.

Another thing to take into consideration is the fact that potential employers go onto sites, such as Facebook, in an attempt to “get to know” their prospective employees. That means that if you are one who posts senseless platitudes that make you appear to “have an attitude,” you will probably not be hired. If you are one who likes to post references as to how stupid and irresponsible you are (i.e. “got fired the first day for forgetting to show up to the new job”), then they will probably not hire you. And, while I disagree with this, if your posts are political in nature (this goes for both sides of the political spectrum), and if the hiring manager’s political views are the opposite of yours, then you will probably not get hired.

I don’t agree with them doing that. Not at all. But are they breaking a law or something ???? You can boycott or take down your Facebook page in protest …. but would that even make a difference. And would any conservative really do that? They got you and they know it

PS; I am not on facebook. Just saying

To be honest I don’t know what it is about facebook that is so attractive to people. If you and look for a job, for example, one of the first things your potential employer (s) is going to do is to check you out on social media. And if you have a slew of crazed rants on there then buy buy no job. It can destroy a person’s reputation with irrevocable consequences. Not worth it. Text your family and friends and stay off of social media for socializing or making political statements.

There may be legit reasons to have an account on social media. Running a blog like TBS, or any other type of legit business. But these days, especially a large amount of college students, are using social media for all the wrong reasons and they shooting themselves in the foot and most likely without even knowing it.

The fact that Facebook is a thing disturbs me. People’s need for constant attention is sad.

Agreed. There are so many people desperate for attention in this world. To the point that they create, manufacture, and crave controversy just to garner attention. You know who you are

The solution to the problem is very simple. All people have to do is stop using facebook and they will go out of business. They have no product. They have naïve users who post personal information which gets sold and resold to marketing companies. Not to mention the fact that strangers know exactly where you are and what you are doing. I wonder how many burglars follow facebook.

Steven Crowder just filed a pre-lawsuit discovery against Fakebook. This could get interesting.
