You have no idea how many people messaged us about this post from the “Your* Probably From Worcester If” Facebook page:

12557005_1669649386651671_1141793320_o 12562904_1669649353318341_1654601685_o

And since it was posted on Facebook, you know it’s legit!!

Anyway, whenever we see something like this we’re always a little skeptical. Paul Conzo is a salon that’s been around since Turtleboy was just a wee lad. And generally you don’t stay in business that long if you’re not doing good business. Plus back when Turtleboy Jr. was in the womb Turtleboy got Mrs. Turtleboy a prenatal massage gift certificate and she says it was fantastic. Turtleboy Jr. still talks about it to this day. Basically there are three allegations here in Internet court:

  1. Paul Conzo refused to treat this girl’s hair because they didn’t fit a certain look they were going for.
  2. Paul Conzo discriminated against this individual because they could tell they were in recovery.
  3. Paul Conzo only gave a partial refund on the gift certificate that they would not honor.

resized_polo-meme-generator-hello-internet-police-i-have-sand-in-my-vagina-again-2c06ab_zps2002683b

Something didn’t smell right here. First of all, we had a hard time believing that any business that wants to stay in business would refuse to honor a gift certificate, and then only give them back part of the certificate’s value. Secondly, where’s the proof? If this happened to me, I’d be bullshit too. But I’d also post pictures of the receipts so people would know that I’m not bullshitting for page views.

As for them not doing her hair because she didn’t fit a certain look, we know nothing about this particular industry, so we have no idea if this is common practice. Thus it was time to do a little Turtleboy Investigates. We got in contact with the owner of Paul Conzo salon, and here’s what they had to say about the gift certificate:

“We gave the woman $200 the amount the boyfriend paid for the gift certificate. We were having a promo at the time Pay $100 get a certificate for $110. Pay $200 get a certificate for $220. She was given exactly what he paid. Should I have made her sign something saying she got it? In hindsight probably, but we never would have thought like that.”

Oh wait, you mean there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for all this? You don’t say!! You mean when the person posted that they were only refunded a portion of the certificate’s value they were intentionally misleading the reader? Obviously Paul Conzo should be in the business of giving out $20 extra bonus dollar to every person who wants a refund. What could possibly go wrong??

Well what about the allegation that the Paul Conzo refused to style her hair?

“The client wanted something that would result in her already damaged hair being further damaged. The stylist offered another color service that didn’t involve bleach. Bleach is a harsh chemical. If hair is as fragile as hers was it could cause breakage. She said the other salon would do it for her so we gave her the $200 so she could go there. But client didn’t want it. Our policy is not to take a chance that her hair would break. Stylist told her it wouldn’t be fair to take her money and not do the service.”

Oh, gee whiz, the disgruntled client forgot to mention that part. Ya know, the part where the Salon didn’t do something to intentionally destroy her hair. Sure, Paul Conzo could’ve just kept the the $200 and done something that they consider dangerous, and thus set themselves up for a potential lawsuit. But instead they decided to take $200 out of the register, hand it to this woman, and ensure that her hair didn’t get destroyed and they didn’t get sued. What an injustice!!

How bout the allegation that she was discriminated against because she was a recovering addict?

“There is no way we discriminated against her because she was a recovering addict ( we didn’t even KNOW that) or because of her appearance. She was a nice looking person who was dressed fine–it is sad that we are being publicly lynched for trying to do the right thing rather than damage her hair.”

You mean she didn’t walk into the salon with a sign that said, “I’m a recovering addict?” That’s weird. I figured Paul Conzo knew all about this woman’s past the moment she walked into the store. Silly me.

How do you respond to some of these people who are claiming this is a racist action on the part of Paul Conzo?

“My husband and I opened the business in 1987. We have tons of loyal clients. There are about 21 of us and it’s like a big family and always has been. The girls that are stylists are feeling threatened by these accusations. Now people are saying we are racist!! My God, the girl was white. They are talking about “ethnic hair” – the girl didn’t have “ethnic hair.” Where are these accusations coming from?”

Wait a minute, you’re being accused of imaginary racism? Welcome to the Turtleboy club. Generally if you end up here with Turtleboy it means you’re doing something right.

Facebook-Police-Facebook

So that’s our investigation. We heard one side on the Facebook post, and then we heard another side. We weren’t there so we have no way of knowing exactly what transpired. But using our brains and our powers of common sense, we believe the Paul Conzo version of events. Ya know, because it actually makes sense. But hey, that’s just Turtleboy. If anyone can give us proof that Paul Conzo is lying, we’d be open to it. But right now all you’re working with is an unsubstantiated Facebook rumor.

I’m sure Worcester’s finest are being fair and balanced and not jumping to conclusions either. Let’s check out what they’re saying on the Facebook machine….

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.55.23 PM

She used all caps. This of course means that she’s either, a) not fucking around, or b) hanging out with WANDA.

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.51.06 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.00.16 PM

Yea, what a scumbag!! Unforgivable!!! Sure, there’s no proof that any of this actually happened. But who needs proof when you can be tried in Internet business court instead!!!

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.57.22 PM

Translation – come to my salon and give me your money instead of our competitor!!!

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.06.49 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.00.28 PM

Paul Conzo hasn’t directly contacted some random people on Facebook. They must be guilty. Case closed.

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.51.32 PM

Stealing money is illegal? Never thought of it that way. Because when people have money stolen from them, they don’t go to the police, they go to Facebook!!

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.01.35 PM

I like they way you think Lori. Here’s the thing though – when you do come to Turtleboy with a story, you should probably make sure it checks out first. Because we’ll write the story for you, but not before we get to the bottom of it first.

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.54.41 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.54.53 PM

Yea, that seems reasonable. Let’s make a legitimate, family owned and reputable business give free haircuts to the homeless because someone posted something on Facebook one time. This seems fair.

Then there’s the folks who don’t understand how Facebook works:

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.02.47 PM

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.06.12 PM

As well as the Facebook Internet lynch mob:

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.51.49 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.59.29 PM

Newsflash – Paul Conzo’s Facebook page is controlled by Paul Conzo. When you spam their page with bullshit, they’re obviously not going to let you keep it up. This is how Facebook works. But yea, let’s get more people together so we can use social media to tar and feather a family owned business because of something someone we’ve never met before wrote on Facebook.

unnamed

Then there’s the protest crew:

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.01.00 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.01.30 PM

First of all, no you wouldn’t. Sorry Mindy and Mary, but we both know you would never actually go down there with a sign and protest. You’d definitely say that you would on Facebook because it requires no energy. But getting off your ass and standing in front of a salon in January? Yea, we both know that is not happening.

Then there’s this mild-mannered rational voice from the community:

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.51.19 PM

Hey, everyone, listen to the blowhard on Facebook because us used all caps!!

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.54.18 PM

How could the lawsuit possibly fail??

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.02.37 PM

Yea, because Jim Langley has lots of experience in hair styling, so he’s definitely equipped to comment on what a salon can and cannot do with a woman’s hair. Definitely.

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.02.05 PM

Yup, because this is definitely going to trial. This is how our criminal justice system works.

Screen Shot 2015-12-01 at 10.29.56 AM

And of course we have the Internet lawsuit crew:

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.52.05 PM

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.57.15 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.00.50 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.58.17 PM

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 12.59.00 PM

Yea, because that’s how lawyers work. They take your frivolous lawsuits and put in free labor. If you lose it doesn’t cost you anything. This is how the court system works.

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 1.07.35 PM

Oh look, a link. Case closed!!

The bottom line is that this is so wrong to do to a small business. Turtleboy will always stand up for any small business doing legitimate business, so long as they’re not ripping people off. And clearly this woman was not ripped off since she received a full refund and she was turned away for her own safety. Sure, you could jump to your own conclusions and join the lynch mob. Or you could just wait until Turtleboy investigates and find out the real story.

Sounds like the woman tried to get an extra $20 in a scam of a promotional deal. Maybe for some old habits.

did anyone think maybe this chick cashed in the gift certificate and claimed to this boyfriend’s mother that she only got part of it back because she used it for heroin? I mean it’s a possibility seeing drug addicts are kind of known for money scams and lying.. Juuust saying.

B-I-N-G-O this dope fiend took the $200 and she and darling little boyfriend got smacked up.
When overbearing Mom questioned the money, it was time for the lies to pour out like blood from the needle tracks.

What is the repercussion for all of the Internet Police?

When I start posting on facebook about Jim Langley the General Foreman for the City of Worcester Recycling Facility, will allow you to throw full paint cans away for $10/per can – what will the repercussion be?

When I post that Mary Caldbeck Hutchinson, who lives at 100 Pytchley Ct in
Longwood, FL has been seen peeping on the children of Wekiva Elementary school – what will the repercussion be?

The most important thing addressed is this theme of fake, online, “protest” that have ZERO basis in fact. Small businesses get crushes by scam outfits like “RipOff Reports” which essentially facilitates a free, unverified environment for these frauds to spread their internet grime. Once a business has been hit, they are reached out to by a social consultant to help their “image online”. They ask for 2k to 20k a month, because all small businesses just keep that much money in cash for fun. They don’t even remove the post even if you have proof it’s a lie.

I believe Paul Conzo’s side of the story, I have been in a salon where I was getting my hair cut and I asked the owner and the beautician that was cutting my hair about getting a permanent to my hair. They told me it would NOT be a good idea since I had recently colored my hair and that I would be wasting my money since permanents are expensive and I would be lucky if my hair stayed curly for 2 weeks, besides the damage to my hair would be great since the color had already damaged my hair and the permanent would do damage on top of the damage already done. I was disappointed but believed them, since I know just blow drying, wind and sun exposure can damage hair. I am no beautician so I will listen to them when they make suggestions as they know hair and have gone to school for their knowledge. I am sure I could have found some salons that would have been more than willing to give me the permanent, wasted my money and did more damage to my hair, but I thank Diana’s on Grafton Street in Worcester for being totally honest, saving my money and preventing further damage to my hair. I could have been as stupid as these people are and tried to ruin a business because they didn’t do, what I wanted them to do, but instead I appreciated what they did the smart and honest thing and told me the truth instead.

Hey WO WO WO stop the presses. Paul Conzo is a great great guy period. Mrs. BobnMic has been going there for so many years I lost count. When I go to meet her on one of her many appointments (which afterward when they finish with her I seriously go YUM) I joke around with the staff. They are all great. They try and talk me into like a Kevin Millar highlight thing and of course because I am a big powerful brut of a man I said no. Utt hum – Well there was this one time.

Hey I was at the Pic drinking like a viking waiting for Mrs. BobnMic and when I went to go check in on her I was semi-hammered. I ended up walking out of there after looking like a California suffer dude. It was all good. My little sister said I looked younger and not so conservative. SO that’s my story and I think Paul Conzo’s is a great place and they do arguably the best job at what they do in Worcester County.

The people who start this kind of crap and the friends they share with are not going to impact a thriving business. it just makes them look stupid. Everyone is a lawyer today. i love the discrimination law suit suggestions. What was the basis, not serving someone with bad hair.
Conzo’s has been around forever. This will not impact them in the least.

First of all, this “self-proclaimed” victim disgusts me. I’m glad she has stopped using drugs, but her disingenuous deceiving posts slamming an innocent business is inexcusable. And her “so-called” friends quick to post & bash the business in support, even though the accusation was far from believable, are morons.
