Here’s a pretty disturbing story out of Fairhaven:

This blew my mind when I first read it. I used to live near there and have seen this store on Route 6 many times. I thought there had to be more to this. Who would keep the name of a man who murdered his wife on their business? And this business sells accessories and clothing to law enforcement and other first responders? Couldn’t be possible.

But it was. I took a ride on the Google machine and I found that Heidi’s mother (also named Heidi) is the local coordinator for a group called Parents of Murdered Children. Here’s her daughter’s bio on their website:

She was one of five children, and the only girl in the family. She had been wed to Mike Padeiro for 19 months, and although she had a love for children they had no kids together. Heidi confided in her mother that Mike was controlling and wouldn’t let her hang out with her friends. According to Mom she was planning to divorce him, and he had told people that if she did try to leave him he would kill her. “I will give myself a present nobody will ever forget.”

On his birthday he shot her in the back as she was getting ready for work, then shot her again 15 minutes later before gutlessly taking his own life. So everything in her brother’s post checks out.

I just can’t wrap my head around how you wouldn’t change the name of your store. If Uncle Turtleboy killed someone and I had carry on this blog I’d probably rename it, since even the brand’s name would be associated with something terrible. But to have the actual business bare this chud’s name is so tone deaf I can’t even fathom how they’d keep it up.

Even more disturbing is what’s on Mike and Wayne’s website:

Da fuq? He “passed away in 1989?” He didn’t just pass away, he killed himself because he couldn’t face the music for what he had done. His partner Wayne Oliveira is a Fairhaven firefighter/paramedic, and although I have nothing but respect for the work that first responders do, and I’m sure he’s saved a lot of lives in his career, this is intentionally misleading. The fact that this place sells accessories and clothing for first responders makes it sound like Mike Padeiro died tragically, through no fault of his own, possibly because of a work related issue. I know it doesn’t outright say that, but to the casual observer that’s certainly the impression I would get from it.

Heidi’s mother commented on the post and says that he was never a Dartmouth Police Officer either:

Being as I have a natural respect for first responders I was willing to give Wayne the benefit of the doubt. I’ve reached out to him on both his personal Facebook page and Mike and Wayne’s Facebook page, but have not heard back. However, Heidi’s brother Mark has attempted to respectfully reach out to Wayne about this issue before posting on Facebook about it, and his concerns were dismissed.

How is the name “Mike” so offensive? Oh I dunno, maybe because Mike murdered his sister? That might have something to do with it.

As you can see from the rest of the letter that he sent to Wayne certified mail he couldn’t have possibly been more polite, respectful, and professional.

He couldn’t have written that any better. He acknowledges that Wayne lost a friend in this too, even though that friend murdered his sister. He pleads with him about how much his family still hurts from this tragedy, and how the name of his store still opens these wounds nearly 30 years later.

And in return for his polite tone this happened:

What a douche donkey. A bully? How tone deaf can you be? You ignored his respectful letter, and continue to intentionally cause this family pain. Now you’re mad because he had the audacity to exercise free speech on his Facebook page? How bout you just make it right and then there won’t be a need for him to post on Facebook? You can call your business Wayne’s. What’s wrong with that? Instead you insist on almost memorializing a murderer. It’s pretty sick.

The worst part about this is how police and other first responders shop at this place. I have a feeling most who do have no idea who it’s named after, since it’s been 30 years and a lot of first responders weren’t even born when this happened. But they have a right to know, since Wayne won’t is being intentionally dishonest on his website. You can do what you want with your money, and we don’t really organize boycotts or anything like that. But as for me, I’ll be getting my Steve Levine handcuffs elsewhere.

‘Heidi wanted to leave Michael but she chose to go on vacation first, then divorce him.’
If he hadn’t killed her, would she still be held up in such a state of reverence?
Stand by your convictions but not till after the Aruba trip, right?

The name change is ridiculously unnecessary but maybe revise the narrative making reference to the late Mike.
Easy enough to say it was established in 1987 and continues to serve public safety professionals…etc.
Just drop the TMI bio and then there’s no redoing the invoices, letterhead, etc.
But this is a southeast MA situation, involving SE MA people whose IQ’s are dangerously close to the level of those in RI, rarely breaking into the triple digit level.
As Monty Python’s King Arthur said of Camelot, ” ‘Tis a silly place.”

Before you read this on here, you likely had no idea that there was any controversy and you’ll be screeching autistically about something else in the next couple of days with this all but forgotten.

It has nothing to do with the treasurers office. It is in the union contract how much money is to be alotted and the town/city will shop around for the best deals.  Apparently, he has the best price. ‍♀️

I don’t know how he would lose business by changing his name. I think it is the fact that he kept the name on the business after the murder that bothers the family so much, not the actual name “Mike”. FWIW, most first responders don’t have a choice where they can purchase their uniforms from. The recieve an allotment/stipend and it is sent directly to the store. You just go in and pick up/order what you need, so it’s not really fair to say “first responders shouldn’t shop there”. It is out of our hands. Different towns/departments have contracts with specific people so I highly doubt changing the name would affect his business.

There’s three different kinds of TBS readers
    1. The pissed off moderate-conservative
    2. The person looking for someone to shame and be angry at.
    3. The person looking for a laugh.
SSTG as a writer, seems to be the writer on this site that tends to appeal to 2 heavily, and 3 often, but seldom number 1.
To shame someone for their business name, and try to put some sort of pressure on a small business that isn’t unethical in practice, is a highly controlling, PC mob esque tactic that really is not what I believe TB set out to do when he started this blog.
There’s many reasons why it makes sense to keep a company’s name as is, and to equate the name remaining to the same as if the guilt for this crime is on his (the owners)hands is just mock outrage. It’s just an unfortunate article to come across.

Wayne is an idiot. He should have change the name of the business the day after his scumbag friend became a murderer. How could any police officer shop at a store that was named after a murderer.

Wayne might be a douche, but their feelings are not his problem. Mike is the most generic white guy name there is. Sorry your sister died 29 years ago, but if seeing the name Mike triggers you that much at this point, maybe you have the problem And this is a Turtleboy worthy cause? Trying to force a company to change their name because of feels.

    1989? Really?

There’s is goodwill ($$$$$$$$) associated with a name. Sometimes the name is worth more than the business itself. I know of 2 restaurants that changed ownership and kept the same name. Both are doing great. Mostly because they still server good food and kept the name.

Tough Noogies. This guy didn’t kill anyone and he’s trying to get people to ignore someone who has been dead for decades. Don’t blame him. Why should he take a potential kick in the shorts for something not of his doing?

John Mcafee is probably a murderer with his time as Marlon Brando in the “secret island of Dr Moreau” in Belize. You probably have the damn anit-virus software on your PC and don’t give a fuck. He hasn’t been associated with the company in years. In 2014 the company said they were going to change the name because of Belize. The company still exists with the same name. I guess they decided that it would be too expensive to have to explain why the new name with a new marketing campaign.

The JFK Library ought to change the name because of Teddy the Olympic swimmer.
Also in Boston, Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate.

I agree. It’s I’m sure a very established business name.

Someone kills people in McDonald’s do they change their name?

Yeah Mike’s in hell but why hurt the business after all of these years? I’m sure he hurt it initially when he killed his wife.

      Relatives: Let it go.

I agree with you in theory. However this was a very specific local murder suicide. And if Wayne doesn’t want to change the name because it will hurt his business why doesn’t he tell the family that instead of being a dick to them?

I like the Oakleys propped up on his dome, 1988 gold chain, and artfully trimmed beard he’s got going on. If first impressions based on appearances are to be valued, he doesn’t exactly look like a pillar of the community or an upstanding member of the local Rotary Club. Not surprised he’d be that rock-headed.
