Five Leominster School Committee Members With No Kids In The Public Schools Voted To Cancel School Until November While Completely Ignoring Working Class Parents

Yesterday the Leominster Public Schools became the first district to cancel in school learning for the first quarter of the year.

This was after the surveyed teachers and parents, and 83% of parents and 70% of teachers said they wanted some form of in school instruction. The School Committee in a 5-4 decision basically told them to fuck off. I discussed the implications of this at the 46 minute mark on last night’s live show.

This is insane. Does the SC not know that ZERO kids have died from COVID in Massachusetts? Are they unaware that there are zero documented instances of children passing on COVID to their teachers in other countries? Do they not care about the effects this is having on students from low income backgrounds? Do they think school just isn’t that important so it can be effectively cancelled on a whim like this?

My daughter is going to be in kindergarten next year and we still don’t have a plan from our district. If she has to learn electronically who is going to sit with her by the computer? She’s 5, so she can’t do a Zoom call on her own. This effectively has forced parents to become teachers as well. Except I’m running a business, and the vast majority of parents are working themselves. I’m sure this is a dilemma for many in Leominster too. What are they supposed to tell their bosses? I can’t come into work until November? And since Leominster parents are basically playing the role of a teacher, and are forced to stay home with their kids instead of working, will they be compensated at a teacher aide’s salary by the Leominster Public Schools?

But I guess the Leominster School Committee doesn’t care about that. Mayor Dean Mazzarella serves on the committee and was one of the 4 no votes. He posted on Facebook today about a protest of this ridiculous decision.

There were 5 members who voted to do remote learning only.

Let’s meet them.

Peter Haigis is the husband of State Rep Natalie Higgins, a radical leftists who recently voted to end qualified immunity for police officers and wants them defunded.

He appears to be childless, and works as a software developer and political consultant. Thus he will not be affected by this decision personally and will continue to earn a living since his industry is not affected by COVID.

Ronald Houle is a much older man.

It seems unlikely that he would have kids enrolled in the LPS.

Isabelle Alera is a 2016 Leominster High School graduate and a 2020 Worcester State grad.

She of course has no children, and recently posted how people should “take a seat” if they want their children’s schools to be fully opened.

She has the same political leanings as Haigis.

Brandon Robbins is a 24 year old, childless resident who was elected while still enrolled as a student at UMass Lowell.

Like the others, he is a political supporter of Natalie Higgins and subscribes to their ideology, which includes keeping schools locked down until election day.

He was just elected last year after a failed run at the City Council in 2017. He criticized former City Council members for doing exactly what he just did:

“They are represented by councilors who are concerned about the needs of all of their constituents, but who may not understand fully their concerns.”

Brandon Robbins does not understand the concerns of the people he represents, or else he just doesn’t care.

It’s unclear if SC member Michael Stessen has any children, but we do know that he subscribes to the same pro-lockdown political ideology as the others who voted to keep the schools closed.

The complaints I’ve read from parents who were completely ignored are perfectly legitimate.

Thank you for the full destruction of my autistic daughters mental health. She needs her routines and school. Thank you for sending out a survey and not listening to parents. She needs her teachers and social aspects even if it’s six feet apart. This is a very poor decision.

Absolutely horrendous. Who cares about us working parents. My daughter is on an IEP and struggled so much with remote learning. I guess IEP’s no longer matter and I’m supposed to quit my job and loose my house to do the teachers job. The school committee should be ashamed of yourselves.

Remote Learning was an absolute joke and my children regressed and lost skills. All it was, was busy work. There was no learning!! This is a complete disservice to the children of Leominster. Did you even listen to what the parents of the children you are responsible for educating had to say!!?? Absolutely disgusting!!!

So 67k pediatricians say children should go back. And our school committee knows better. What a load of crap.
Other school districts will be deciding what to do soon so this does not bode well. But the negative effects of not going to school are much more of a threat to your child than a disease that has killed zero children in Massachusetts. The people who want the lockdown to continue refuse to educate themselves on this widely available data because they’ve been brainwashed by the media into believing their children are in danger. And as you can see in Leominster, the people making these decisions are unaffected by them personally.

This is Jeffrey Epstein. Now that I have gone to the other side, I left my island and private jet to my good buddy Bill Clinton. He is offering free tutoring on my island to any children that are interested. All expenses paid daycare, tutoring and physical education. 1-800-Slic-Will So parents, if school is cancelled by your local school district, sign your kids up today. This will be FAR better than Michael Jackson’s Neverland.

Eh, any jackass can run and get on the school committee. It’s the first rung in any political career, heck, I was on a school committee before I left Mass. That being said, what commonly happens (and what will happen in this case) is the city solicitor gets a demand letter and notice that a class action suit will take place in regards to whatever issue the parents have a gripe with. At that point the committee reconvenes in a special session and basically reverses whatever it was, in a very quiet manner. I bet money in a few weeks that’s what will happen here. The lawsuits are just too expensive and cost folks their committee positions.

Back in the 90’s, on the David Brudnoy show. The head of the Boston Teachers Union said, the union would take the students side, if they were members of his Union.
Remember, when most Teachers talk of the wellbeing of their students, they mean the wellbeing of themselves first and their students second.

Simple the teachers are afraid, ok
Withhold your money going towards public education. Get together start a home school group. You will have no problem finding accredited teachers. Go from there. You will be surprized how the kids will jump ahead academically. The teacher’s union stopped carring about anything but the union long ago.

This is disgusting. How is a teachers life more important or valuable than everyone else that has to go to work everyday? No one is comfortable going into work obviously, but we don’t have the option of getting paid to not go into the office. Now you put these kids at risk of illegal, unregulated day cares or “Learning Pods” that are far more dangerous than a class room. This act is so selfish and is not in the best interest of the kids. The parents should be able to decide if they want to send their children in for in person learning or if they are not comfortable with that they should keep them home. Its funny how Camps and day cares can be open and seem to be doing fine, but daycare providers and camp counselors lives are not as valuable as teachers right? The teachers that want to go back and teach should be able to do so and the one’s that don’t might loose their job ( just as if they were in the private sector). I think Leominster families should stop paying their taxes that fund the schools and take their kids off the roster for next year so the school does not receive funding for their kids. Lets see how their decisions and priorities change when they are not receiving a paycheck like many parents won’t. Also the 5 counselors that decided on this, they should also loose their paychecks since their votes will do that to many parents. This whole thing is a joke and I lost total faith and respect for the Leominster School Committee and anyone else who made this unbelievable decision. And Yes I would Teach the kids in the classroom , my conditions at the work I go to everyday and have been this whole time are much worse, like many others are than a teachers would be, but I have a job to do.

      July 31, 2020 at 5:01 pm

How about your act of selfishness? I am sure that at most jobs you are not exposed to 20-140 people a day in a confined room with poor air circulation! Teachers are not babysitters! If you have a problem with how the remote learning went, then you need to take it up with the school. Kids might not be dying from COVID but adults are! Teachers are exposed to these children that may be asymptotic and carrying the disease to bring to them. How is it ok that that happens. It might be 1 teacher to 20 students up until 4th grade, then the number of students teachers are exposed to increases drastically! Unless you are a cashier, I am sure you are not exposed to all those people! Please stop pushing your agenda on all! Take the academics up with the school!

No one is putting a gun to the head of any teacher. They can walk if they don’t like it and find a job that requires working more than 3/4 of a year like the rest of us. Teachers are the laziest portion of America’s work force.

And I won’t even get into the fact that most teachers are doing a terrible job and destroying the youth of America by brainwashing them with their liberal ideologies. This country is fucked and you’ll see it comes to fruition over the next few decades.

        • Your Life Definitely Doesn't Matter
          July 31, 2020 at 7:14 pm

First off shitstain, you clearly didn’t read the article. 70% of the teachers wanted in person learning, not online. Second, you’re doing just what the liberals are doing with the police, by lumping in all teachers with the few that don’t do their jobs. True, liberal brainwashing is occurring, but at the HS and college level, not the younger ones who wouldn’t give a rat’s ass about political stuff or understand it. Lastly, you’re butthurt that you don’t get 3 months a year off like teachers do. That’s nothing new, it’s been that way for a long time, so why didn’t you become a teacher so you could enjoy that privilege too, you dumb fuck? Oh, wait, you probably dropped out of HS, never mind.

Well once again I said that my particular work situation is worse than a teachers would be , being in contact with more people and less controlled environment. This is the situation with slot of people who have been working this whole time. If a teacher does not want to work , someone else should be hired in their place. It’s very pretentious of people to think their lives are more valuable than mine or anyone else. I wouldn’t even want people like that teaching my kids.

Totally agree Fed Up. These Teachers should go back to school or we should hire private teachers to go back to teach our kids. We should not be paying any teacher not willing to go back and use that money as a credit towards hiring new teachers willing to do their jobs just like it works with everyone else on the planet. If you are not willing to perform the job than you will be replaced

        July 31, 2020 at 11:11 pm

Bones, I think you are smoking too many bones. iIf the teachers really wanted to go back they should have been demanding it at the meeting , sitting with the committee members and pleading with them to make the right decision for the kids. I agree that some teachers probably do want to really go back , but instead of just kicking back and collecting our tax payer money they should have been fighting for our kids, not letting this unqualified committee decide the future of not only our kids , but our local economy. Should be the parents choice , we are the tax payers , we are the customers.

        • Bones
          August 1, 2020 at 11:08 pm

Teachers have no pull with school committees. These school committee members probably had their minds made up in April. The parents, who actually do have pull with school committees, said they wanted kids to go back and they still voted the way they did. If a teacher demanded anything from the school committee they would be ignored at best and would be putting a target on their backs.

I love it! Just say fuck school. It will be the final separation between the haves and the have nots. Just like the 1870’s in England. Education is only for the rich. Ignorance will be for the masses who rely on welfare and will die early. Taxes will spike then dry up and a public school teacher will be like the last starfish on the beach. Ok, I kind of want to tee off on the MTA here – who is pushing remote learning. First, I value teachers. I myself work in the profession. However, 75% of my local taxes go directly to funding the schools. That leaves 25% for DPW, PD, Fire, Library, municipal departments, infrastructure, etc. If I have to allocate only 2% of an annual local budget to PD, and officers are made to show up and work, shouldn’t my 75% go to something? Every day I hear teachers say they are on par with nurses, first responders, etc. in terms of importance in the community, but they don’t want to do their jobs in person despite there being almost 0 instances of student to teacher transmission. You know who has to show up to work in person? A cashier or a clerk at the Big Y, making $13 an hour without benefits. Unreal. And the kids are the ones hurt most from this. If you look at Leominster negative health indicators, they are all socioeconomically based. These kids are going to be worse off all year because of this nonsense, and from a failure of adults to protect them.

If our government isn’t providing a service that three quarters of your tax dollars go to – what the hell are we still paying for?

Today, I will begin research on home schooling. Clearly, we don’t need teachers and teachers just want to continue their endless vacation. Meanwhile, it’s perfectly fine for kids to work minimum wage at McDonald’s and Wal-Mart.

It pains me to say these things, even on an anonymous forum (Anonymous to all but TB I assume) as my sister is a teacher.

I’m not going to play the political game with my kids. Sure, everything goes back to “normal” November 3. Normal being a curriculum that involves the education of White Privilege. This was a topic pushed hard by my kids school – so far that our Lilly white principal in our 99.9% white town was disseminating White Privilege propaganda. Sorry, but my kids are not going to be brainwashed to believe it’s all their fault for nig nogs being glorified monkeys that can’t function in society.
