So the Oxford kid who we wrote about last night who took a video of his teacher and uploaded it to Twitter in a ploy to get him fired, has issued an apology and we just wanted to briefly acknowledge it because he did the right thing:

When you do bad things, we have no problem calling you out. When you do the right thing, we’d be hypocritical not to do the opposite. Some people have suggested that this is a fake apology that was forced by his parents. Even if they did, so what? All that means is he has parents who care about him, probably read him the riot act, and actually held him accountable for his behavior. The same can’t be said for a LOT of kids and parents out there. I think this is a case of a kid who made a really stupid decision and learned an even more important life lesson. And that’s what life is all about – learning from your mistakes.

But this wasn’t about just one kid. This is an epidemic and a problem in schools when every single kid has a cell phone. There’s no reason for kids to be on cell phones in class, and if they are caught, then it should be dealt with seriously. Think of all the things you can do with a cell phone. If you’re taking a test and the teacher has his back turned for a moment you can take a picture of the test and send it to all your friends who haven’t taken it yet. You can use it to publicly shame your teacher like this kid did. And never mind all the porno that’s at their finger tips. The possibilities are endless and administrators need to start backing up teachers and suspending kids who get caught using cell phones in class.

It’s really NOT that difficult for parents to take their kid’s cellphone away. It doesn’t help when parents INSIST their kids NEED their phones at school and actually call and text them during the school day, expecting an immediate response.

There are plenty of distractions at school without adding cell phones to the mix.

I’m happy to see this article Turtleboy, this is what sets you apart from other media. The other media only focuses on controversy to get ratings, but you have a code of values and honesty.

Ryan really is a good kid that made a stupid mistake. Both of his parents are Correction Officers so I know for a fact that they don’t let him get away with anything. Good kid from a good family.

I’m sure this was a tough lesson for Ryan and I applaud him for recognizing the error of his ways and apologizing. I’m glad TB took the time to acknowledge it.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I tried the last article AFTER the apology but BobnMic can’t hold a candle to the turtle. Just ride it.

Good for you, Turtleboy. And good for the young man who did apologize. I think he learned a hard life lesson and will be a better person for it.
