Western MA News: Students at two schools in Amherst are getting involved and some even took an American flag off a pole and burned it. Down the street, at Hampshire College, an American flag that had been lowered for those who felt this anger and fear was burned overnight. College officials allowed the flag to remain at half-staff on Thursday “out of respect for the anguish that they were feeling, even while recognizing that for others in our community the flag connotes very different meanings,” Ward wrote.
Decisions about the flag fall to the Board of Trustees — “a responsibility our trustees take very seriously,” Ward wrote.
“The trustees had already planned to talk about the questions raised by a number of members of the community regarding the flag, and will still do so,” Ward wrote. “We will communicate with the campus soon about next steps.”
The college offered counseling services Wednesday to students who were upset about the election. Services were also offered at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Hampshire College President Jonathan Lash sent a message to the community Wednesday to try to ease those feelings.
In that message, Lash wrote that he had heard from students, faculty and staff who were “struggling to understand the meaning and implications” of the results.
“I feel both anguish and sadness,” Lash wrote. “I am particularly concerned about members of our community who felt themselves specifically targeted during a hateful campaign by repeated racist, Islamophobic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBT, and misogynistic statements.”
The school said that its plan was to raise it again for Veterans Day by early Friday morning. Hampshire College officials have already replaced the flag.
So let me get this straight. Hampshire College put the flag at half staff because of the results of a fair and democratic election? It wasn’t just some kids doing this. Adults in charge of a college made this call. As if someone important died. There is an actual code for this sort of thing. But the bottom line is you only put that sucker at half staff when someone important dies. That’s it. You certainly don’t put it down because a bunch of pansy ass 19 year olds are sad because their candidate didn’t win.
Granted Hampshire College administrators did not burn the flag itself, but they certainly created the atmosphere that led to this. Of course we know by now that Hampshire College isn’t a real school. Literally anyone can get in there, and you don’t have to be very smart to stay.
This is a student body that demanded that Obama be their graduation speaker, and then revolted when he wasn’t chosen by Jonathan Lash:

This is the school that brought us Trigglypuff for crying out loud.
It’s the same school that gave us Jennie Chenkin, a woman who went to a public speaking event at UMass with the sole intention of disturbing it (because she didn’t agree with the three speakers), got caught on video doing so, and then demanded that the University apologize to her because she made a mockery of herself. She also wrote the most infamous 2,000 word email to UMass administration, demanding that Turtleboy be held accountable:

Of course the real problem are the adults who cater to their bullshit. Real administrators don’t write cease and desist letters to Turtleboy because their students are mad that we exposed them. Real administrators would tell students that their candidate lost and move on with their lives. But people who create monsters like Trigglypuff, Xavier, and Jennie Chenkin put the flag at half staff to appease their butthurt.
The worst part about this is they burned the flag on Veteran’s Day. A day in which we celebrate those amongst us who are willing to do what the rest of us would have to be drafted in order to do. People who voluntarily signed up defend democracy with their lives. This is why Trump won the election. Because America is sick and tired of this bullshit. But please, keep pulling stunts like this. All you’re doing is guaranteeing that President-Elect Trump will be a two term President.

I am reading the book: The African American Odyssey of John Kizell – A South Carolina Slave Returns to Fight the Slave Trade in His African Homeland, written by Kevin G. Lowther.
According to the book’s chronology, in 1810, Kizell undertook a mission to persuade African chiefs to stop trading in slaves. In 1825 he delivered a message to a powerful African chief a death threat if the chief did not cease trading in slaves. In 1830 he detained a fellow African for allegedly kidnapping five African boys.
The author wrote: “I arrived in Sierra Leone as a Peace Corps volunteer to teach history at a Freetown secondary school. I had been a history major in college but knew nothing of Africa, not to mention African American history.”
Well, that tells me a lot about how much Democratic professors teach about the slave trade and who was responsible for it.
