Here’s Why I’m 110% Sure Boston Bruins Win Game 7 Over Montreal Canadiens

Let’s be honest – seven games is the only way a Bruins-Canadiens playoff series can possibly end. I fooled myself into thinking we’d end this one tonight after the shellacking the B’s gave the Habs on Saturday, but I’ve seen this show before and it always ends the same way.

Right off the bat, the Habs reminded us why it’s so easy to dislike them. Their opening ceremonies make the Beijing Olympics look like a backyard barbecue. And only in Montreal do they bring out the attractive junior smokeshow Sara Diamond to sing the American anthem, only to be followed by local Madame/bordello manager Ginette Reno to sing “Oh Canada.” Their obsession with this woman is so Montreal it hurts.

Look, the Bruins got their ass kicked tonight. There’s no way around it. They took a steamy dump all over themselves. But on the positive side, this is a 4-0 game that the Bruins actually could have won. And it’s really not the much a stretch either:

  • Kevin Miller set the tone early on by literally handing them a goal in the first three minutes.
  • Max Pacioretty finally lit the lamp when Zdeno Chara essentially LET him score. Tuuka certainly made Patch’s job a lot easier by coming out too early as if he was gonna make a play on the puck, before getting cold feet and awkwardly backing away. Kind of reminded me of the first time I tried to kiss a girl. Epic fail.
  • And I’m not keeping track of posts hit during this series, but we have to be approaching some kind of record. I wake up in a cold sweat after hearing that “ping” sound relentlessly in my sleep. The laws of probability tell us those just HAVE to go in one of these days – preferably Wednesday.
  • I still don’t know how the Milan Lucic wide open shot in the first period didn’t go in.
  • I still don’t know how Eriksson missed that wide open shot in front of the net.
  • I still don’t know how this happened:

I mean, it’s not like we got smoked when you look at the numbers. They outshot us 28-26. Faceoffs, hits, giveaways, and takeaways were all fairly close. The Bruins just came as close as you can get to scoring without actually putting the puck in the net, and they made stupid, stupid mistakes on defense that are just plain un-Bruin like. It’s not gonna happen again. If the Bruins get a couple different bounces of the puck, or if they played like a normal, competent professional hockey team on defense, then they could have easily won this game.

I don’t know if I can watch David Krejci play like this any longer. Every game I tell myself that the real Czech master will show up, but every game he lets me down. He is a turnover machine. He can’t create his own offense. He passes when he should shoot, and he shoots when he should pass. Brad Marchand has obviously been a downer too, but at least with the Nose Faced Killer it seems like he’s putting the puck on the net.

The final minute of the game was the only good part for us Bruins fans. It painted a broader picture of what this rivalry is all about – we get physical, they run away crying. We were pissed off and frustrated so we did the only logical thing we could in that situation – start bullying the crap out of everyone in a Habs jersey. I’m talking old school, playground bullying too. I’m talking Jarome Iginla repeatedly punching Markov in the face without any response. I’m talking about Zdeno Chara slapping Canadiens around, wishing one of them would be dumb enough to fight him.

I’ve never been so confident as a fan that my team will win after seeing the way that game ended. Iginla didn’t come to Boston to get knocked out by a bunch of gutless, diving whiners like the Canadiens. He came here to win a Cup, and the TD Garden is gonna be rocking like you’ve never seen it before on Wednesday. At the same time I can’t even begin to think about what it would feel like to lose on Wednesday. God that would suck.

The bottom line is that this was the only way this series could’ve ended. It simply HAD to come down to Game 7. This is a matchup of white collar vs. blue collar. It’s a matchup between a team that makes the NHL great, and a team that wants to turn the NHL into the NBA. It is good vs. evil, and in the end good will win.

Bruins win Game 7 and the Series 4-3.
