There’s a football team in Everett, Washington that has been dominating their opponents this season, outscoring them 170-0 in the first 3 games. They’re such a powerhouse, that teams are forfeiting rather than playing the games. The push to forfeit the games seems to be coming from the parents rather than the schools themselves. Here’s a quote from one of the parents:
“We can’t put our 5-foot-8, 125-pound quarterback up against their nose tackle who happens to be 6 feet 5 inches and weighs over 330 pounds. He’s going to put that kid in the hospital.”

Yep, that’s certainly both ends of the spectrum.

The thing is, this high school is private, Archbishop Murphy, and because of that they aren’t limited to district lines to pull players from. It sucks and may be unfair, but those are the rules and these schools agreed to play within them.

So just how big is this team? There are 6 players over 250 pounds and three of those are over 300 pounds. Big kids, but it certainly leaves room for some averaged sized kids. The total roster is 42 kids.

Look, in any high school sport you’re going to have a range of sizes, from skinny freshmen to large seniors. My son pays hockey and his scrawny ass was checked by a bigger kid and he ended up with a broken collar bone that had to be a surgically repaired.

Never in any of his games, from Mites on up did we ever look at the other team and decide not to play them because they had some bigger players.

Jerry Jensen is the coach for Archbishop Murphy and here’s what he said:

“That your Friday game has been forfeited, to me doesn’t really ring true to what we’re trying to teach our young adults here. This is their opportunity to face adversity, power through it, and it will serve them well in their life.”

And he’s right, you’re always going to go against people who are bigger, stronger, smarter than you – you can’t avoid it and you shouldn’t want to. While it sucks to lose out to someone, it’s going to happen.

These parents who are insisting that the games need to be fair are what’s wrong with this country – we’re turning out a whole generation of kids who think that life is fair and if it’s not, they don’t want to play.

Good luck to these kids in the future – your parents have turned you into pussies who would rather lose than try. You build character in the trying, not in the winning.

Not enough information here. One school is private, Archbishop Murphy, nothing mentioned about the other. Is it a public school? Bigger question, why and who did the scheduling for these two schools? Put this into the local picture, would St. John’s schedule Bay Path, Oxford or the likes of start-up programs such as Sutton? In Central Mass as well as the rest of the state they have the division arrangement that classifies school by enrollment. Recently, about six years ago, Murdock High School in Winchendon canceled there season due the fact that they lost several players to injury and had about 16 players available and this included freshman and one or two eight graders.

We used to get killed by the same team every time when I played baseball (I think it was Pittsfield or Agawam), but we still went out and did the best we could. I think we lost by 26 one game. I pitched the next game and knew I was going to be rocked but we were able to bring it down into the teens. Took some strategy and shuffled the roster but we improved. Since when was quiting an option?

Now I live in Texas and our football team played another school that didn’t have as many students. They were smaller and about half as many players. We dominated from the start, but those kids had heart, and even though they could barely run in the fourth quarter, they played ot the last second. I cheered for them as much as our kids.

Make the right-handed pitcher throw the ball with his left hand to compensate for the fact that the others are not as good as he is.

In the army, make the soldiers use single-shot guns in order to not have an advantage over the enemy.

Force them to play so the asshole parents can see how bad Obamacare is when their spawn end in at the E.R.

This is Washington, a very blue State. Make it black & blue!

150 pound kids from Vernon or Grafton Hill would have punished some fat ass team. Back in the day.

well .. shit happens wtf – between this article and the soccer coach … fuck it, just cancel shit.

New rules for soccer and football. Team 1 gets the ball at mid field and they are to walk the ball to the endzone/goal. we will continue to do that until time is up.
