WEEIJets quarterback Geno Smith has a broken jaw after a fight with a teammate and will be sidelined for the next six to ten weeks, according to New York head coach Todd Bowles.

“He got cold-cocked. Sucker punched, whatever you want to call it, in the jaw,” Bowles said of Smith, who had been anointed the starting quarterback earlier this summer by the Jets’ coaching staff.

The injury, reportedly the result of a locker room fight Tuesday with linebacker IK Enemkpali, means that veteran journeymanRyan Fitzpatrick will take controls of the Jets offense going forward.

While Smith will almost certainly miss the start of the regular season (set to open in roughly four weeks), his status for the Oct. 25 game against the Patriots in Foxboro is certainly in doubt.

This is the most Jets story I’ve ever heard. Literally, this could only happen to the Jets. Not even the Raiders. Only the Jets. The only way it could possibly be better is if Sexy Rexy was still the coach. It figures that the only breaking news out of Jets camp thus far this summer has been their starting quarterback’s jaw.

First of all, I think we can all agree that this is the best thing that could’ve happened to the Jets. There is no worse starting quarterback in the NFL than Geno Smith. Ryan Fitzpatick is a whole lot of what he is, but at least he’s not a walking abortion in green.

Secondly, did Geno hit him back? Because I can’t imagine a grown man just standing there and not responding in kind. More than likely he did throw a couple punches back, but since it’s Geno Smith they were either 10 yards away from his face or intercepted.

Thirdly, this is probably the best thing that could ever happen to Geno Smith. After all, now that he can’t open his mouth, it’s gonna be hard to suck like he normally does.

Fourthly, this is the biggest karma I’ve ever seen. Last week some idiot Jets fan flew a plane over Patriots training camp with some dumbass banner about cheating. Next thing you know – boom – first round draft pick is out for the season.

Lastly, I can’t wait until Bill Belichick signs IK Enemkpali the week before the Jets game, just so he can send him out for the coin toss.

LOL. It’s gotta really, really suck to be a Jets fan.

Yeah, they already used that “10 yards or OB” joke on Deadspin, where you copied it from the comments.

“Saying he was sucker punched implies Smith didn’t throw any punches which I find hard to believe. Most likely he threw some but most of them landed 10 yards past Enemkpali or out of bounds.”

If you’re just going to straight up copy your material, put a little more effort into it than changing a couple words from one of the more popular sports sites on the interweb, huh?

After the thrashing I’ve taken the last few days in the comments, I needed a good laugh. Thank you Glass Geno for going down like a Piedmont Street hooker.

When Rex left, I thought the Jets would never entertain me again…feels so good to be wrong. Thank you, Jets. Thank you.
