Kids Whining About Burncoat And South Banning Hoodies And Their Tears Taste So Good

Kids at Burncoat and South aren’t happy about the new ban on hooded sweatshirts, but here’s why they should get over it.

WCVBStudents at two Worcester high schools are crying foul over a new policy that bars them from wearing hoodies. The Telegram & Gazette reports that the policy was announced just a couple days before the school year began at Burncoat High School and South High Community School. The district’s school safety liaison says the ban is part of efforts to prevent youth violence. He says there was a reported connection between hooded sweatshirts and gang culture. There were also concerns that students could hide weapons in the large front pocket on most hoodies. But students at Burncoat and South High are not exactly on board – a petition on ipetitions.com calling on the schools to scrap the new rule had 478 signatures as of Thursday. A school committee member says it may be time for the panel to take up the issue.

Alright, first of all, everyone’s been asking us what Turtleboy thinks of this. The answer is, this is the biggest non-story of all time. Anyone’s who’s mad or surprised about this obviously didn’t grow up in Worcester. This is pretty standard, and as a matter of fact I had no idea hoodies were even allowed in the schools to begin with. For as long as I remember hoodies and backpacks were banned in the Worcester Public Schools. The only difference is that now the reasoning is that teachers can’t see student’s faces in the hallway, but back in my day we were told it was because people would be carrying switchblades in the hood.

At South High, we weren’t even allowed to wear ANYTHING that was orange? You got that? A whole color of the rainbow was just banned because it was identified as a gang color that was in the midst of a gang war, and prevented a safety issue for kids. You literally got sent home if you wore orange to school. There was no Roy G. Biv at South High. It was just Ry G. Biv.

My question is, when did the hoodie ban end? And why wasn’t I consulted? Because I would’ve been down at every high school protesting the end of the ban. Guess what kids? If I didn’t get to wear hoodies to school then neither do you. Don’t you think I wanted to roll out of bed and dress like a ragamuffin? Obviously. But I didn’t, and I hated it. And Goddamnet, you’re gonna hate it too.

So yea, these whiny kids with their petition can go on and get over this. Welcome to Worcester. Does it suck? Yup. Is it patently unfair? Yup. But you have cell phones and we had busy signals and dial up internet. My suffering was a million times worse than your’s.

Hey kids, look at it this way – when you go to college you’re gonna have so much street cred it’s gonna be oozing out of your pores. Trust me, when you go to UMass, or Bridgewater State, or Northeastern, or anywhere really, everyone’s gonna think you’re really interesting. Because all these town kids are going to schools where they’re allowed to wear hoods, and carry backpacks, and wear the color orange, and all these other normal things high school kids are supposed to be able to do.

But not you. Because you’re from Worcester. And everyone’s gonna know it too. When you walk around campus, everyone’s gonna say, “That kid’s from Worcester. He’s probably crazy. Don’t fuck with him because all he has to do is make a couple phone calls and this place is gonna be flooded with a bunch of Polaks and Puerto Ricans with nothing to lose.”

You’re grizzled. You’ve seen it all. People are gonna wanna ask you questions about what it was like to grow up in the hood. Even if you live off of Salisbury Street it doesn’t make a difference because Worcester is just one gigantic ghetto to kids from Canton and Ipswich. So just roll with it. Embrace the Woo and all the insane rules that come along with our ghetto-fabulousness.

I know people are gonna blame Melinda Boone on this one, but this is the policy of Will Foley and Maureen Binienda, the principals of Burncoat and South High respectively. Doherty, North, and Worcester Tech do not have a hoodie ban. And honestly, Binienda and Foley are two of the better principals in Worcester. South High essentially has the same population as North, but NEVER makes the news. Because that’s what happens when you have a principal that’s on top of things.

You think Lisa Dyer would ever ban hoodies at North? LOL. Nope. She’d be WAYY too afraid that it would ruffle the Circlejerk’s tailfeathers and inevitably they would call it racist. Because obviously it’s only a matter of time until the Circlejerk calls this hoodie ban racist. When’s the last time you saw RBG wearing anything about a Saver’s brand hoodie? Oh yea, never. Look what happened last year when North High turned into Mogadishu. Lisa Dyer’s solution was more diversity training from her fantastic friends Keesha, Brenda, and Joyce. She would NEVER try something new or out of the box like this, because up until three years ago she didn’t even work inside of a school.

But at the end of the day Will Foley and Maureen Binienda know what’s best for their schools. They’re not doing this for fun. They want the hoodie ban because kids walk down the hallway and you can’t see their faces. If this is an ongoing problem in their school, and they’re instituting the ban to make the schools a safer place, then obviously we support that. Both principals have been working in the WPS for decades, so I think they know what they’re talking about.

P.S. Why the hell is WCVB interested in this story but no one outside of Worcester seems to give a shit about Mosaic stealing all this money from the city? This is why people read Turtleboy Sports. Because the mainstream media has its head so far up its own ass that all the lube at a Korean massage parlor couldn’t get it out of there.

Double P.S. It’s gonna suck for Burncoat and South kids now that they can’t wear their Turtleboy Sports Revolution hoodies to school. These will be on sale in a week, but only Doherty, North, and Tech kids can wear them 🙁

Is this really a discussion? Its a dress code, done! No one said wearing a hoodie makes you violent. And no, our kids won’t freeze. They can wear regular sweatshirts. You’re not allowed to wear mini skirts, bare midriffs or pants to your knees either. Is that wrong too? In life there is a dress code. Would you show up to a corporate meeting in cut off jean shorts? Its HS. Let them get some real world experience.

Nope, NOT done. No one said it makes you violent? Then why ban a warm article of clothing? Another bully response, yeah we get it. Not too much intelligent life in Worcester, that’s why it stays the same. Recycled stupidity.

But repeating the same thing over and over, ad nauseam, is a sign of great intelligence?

Tell me, Socrates, which haven of mental greatness are you from? From which great height did you descend to mingle with the smallfolk?

This is a stupid policy and a really stupid blog post. If someone wants to hide a weapon, they will find a way.

They love to bully here, then wonder why children do it. There’s no intelligence behind these decisions, or anywhere really. That’s why Worcester is the way it is, anyone with any authority is just a bully.

No Lorraine, not everyone wears hoodies, and no the entire city won’t be pissed off. Truth be known, most in the city have no problem with banning during school hours.

No, they are pissed because it’s ridiculous. Most people agree banning a method or means to violence or criminal activity is a good thing; banning warm clothes in New England without merit is definitely not. Worcester just never makes it to the evolutionary process, does it? It just stays the same, year after year and never gets better. But banning warm clothing will “stop the violence”. Seriously laughing out loud.

That’s what they do in Worcester. Incapable of tolerating intelligence. LMAO!!! So predictable.

That’s why you are losing viewers, already lost quite a few. Because you’re a moron, a bully and you are a relic. Worcester is still nasty and the people there are idiots, like you. Buh bye now!!! LOL!!!

Classic case of “I am pissed, therefore everyone is pissed.”

No, most of us either agree or just don’t give a shit.

I wore a hoodie through about 90% of high school. I graduated South in 2005.

I don’t think the dress code mentioned them at all.

This is really the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of. Educators are actually getting even more stupid over time. Like a hoodie makes me want to be violent? How idiotic. Everyone wears hoodies. EVERYONE. Banning them doesn’t do anything but piss off an entire city.

Well, if the king of non-stories says this is a non-story then it must be true.

In my day we didn’t have “hoodies.” We wore sweatshirts and pegged our jeans because the 80’s totally sucked. Fat Tat at Doherty confiscated my walkman and I never got it back. And we had rotary phones! How the heck did we survive it all?

Being a teenager stinks. Enjoy the indignities while you can, kiddos.

Can we start a movement to replace Boone with Maureen Binenda? Worcester’s schools would be cleaned up in a month.

This story was just on NECN. I agree with TB. I went to South when Hoodies and backpacks were banned during the school day. We couldn’t wear the color orange either. And guess what? Children graduated and went on to do bigger and better things. We were issued sweatshirts on the Track and Field team and we wore them to track meets and that was that. Big deal. No knives were hidden and no faces we being obscured to the faculty. I love the kid at the end who said it’s setting a “dangerous precedent.” Though he has no clue that precedent is by definition something that has never been done before.

    • Wow
      September 25, 2015 at 7:02 pm

They’ve been banned at Burncoat middle since the dawn of time and I’m assuming most of the kids at Burncoat high school went there- why is it such a big deal now?
