Kingston Man Says He Was In A Fight With Man Who Died After Leaving The Same Party That Shithead Drunk Driver Who Killed A Girl In Pembroke Was At

A lot of people have messaged and commented about the blog published yesterday by Bristol, about the nudnik with a long and documented history of being a menace, who killed a 13 year old girl while driving drunk in Pembroke. Her take was that it’s too early to blame the company Greg Goodsell worked for (Hi-Way Safety Systems) because even though he was at a company party hours before that it was ultimately him who made the decision to drive drunk.

I kind of agree with this but I kind of don’t too. I don’t think company’s should be held accountable if their employees get drunk and kill someone, especially when the company party ended hours before that. But at the same time, why the hell would any owner ever let an employee come to a company event in a company truck and consume ANY alcohol?

Plus, this guy’s got a long and documented history of being a drunken shithead and a menace on the road.

Oh, and then there’s the fact that this company gets millions of dollars a year from the state for contracts, despite a pretty checkered past.

Hi-Way Safety Systems Inc. is a vendor and contractor with state contracts. So far in fiscal year 2020, the company has been paid $2.42 million. Since 2009, the company has been paid more than $30.9 million by the state, records show.

Department of Transportation records show Hi-Way Safety Systems Inc. has 118 registered drivers and 94 registered vehicles. In the past two years, their vehicles have been involved in two crashes but no citations were issued. Over the same period, records show the company has been subject to 29 inspections by police or DOT that resulted in 42 violations. Two of those violations involved drivers who were on duty and found to be in possession of a drug, records show.

So yea, I blame the driver and the RMV, but I also partly blame the company. The fact that anyone is allowed to drink beer and get in a company vehicle is unacceptable.

Oh, and then there’s the fact that another guy who was at the party died that night as well.

The death of a man found unresponsive Sunday morning at a hotel in Rockland, Massachusetts, is under investigation, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office. Emergency responders arrived to a Comfort Inn hotel just before 8 a.m. where authorities said an unresponsive man was found. After life-saving measures were performed, the man was taken to South Shore Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The man has been identified as 41-year-old Joseph Amaral, of Rockland, according to the district attorney’s office.

A source confirmed to NBC10 Boston that Amaral was at the same holiday party as Gregory Goodsell, a Marshfield man police say was driving under the influence in a crash that claimed the life of 13-year-old Claire Zisseron in Pembroke. That crash also severely injured another teenager, who is fighting for her life. Zisseron’s mother, who was driving, was also hospitalized after the crash, but has since been released. Amaral’s exact cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Could it be completely unrelated to the party? Sure. But I’d say it warrants an investigation, which is happening. I don’t know anything about Joe Amaral or the cause of his death, and a bunch of people have reached out to us with conflicting stories. Being as we are a responsible media outlet, I won’t speculate. However, someone who apparently knew Joe posted that the two of them never had a beef, but insinuates that they were in a fight together.

He also says his back is broken.

And the post has been taken down. So take from that what you will. Seems kind of relevant to the investigation though. We’ll keep you posted with any updates.

Didn’t take long for the Amarals to see the money making possibilities. GoFundMe has raised $7600 towards $50K goal -yup, that’s $50K-as of this morning. I know you’ll all want to pitch in. Did you know his wife is gorgeous and his kids are “amazing”? No mention of circumstances of his demise

Hey Oskie, regardless of the circumstances and how he died (which I am not privy to) – it costs a minimum of 20k to give someone a proper burial service. The guy left behind 6 kids. So what if people want to help his family out?

A few years ago some poor guy was at work painting yellow stripes in the road in Pembroke when the paint tank exploded in his face. He was med flighted, and we never found out if he survived. Can’t find the info anywhere. Wasn’t in the police blotter that week either. Does anyone know if it was Hi-Way Safety Systems? I’ll never be able to get that image out of my head. I hope that guy recovered.

The company I’m sure has a shit-ton of insurance. They’ll settle with the family.
The death of a 12-year-old pays about $3-4 million. The family could go to court, win $12 million, but never see more than a few million of that guaranteed, and even then the majority of the first lump sum goes to the lawyers. The family gets to spend the rest of their lives chasing payments from those found responsible after the insurances have paid what they are responsible for.

    What will Charlie Baker do???

If the perp really was coming from an afterparty at the boss’ house, in a company truck, Baker kinda has to do something. And for all we know, the perp could have actually been ON DUTY — or taking the truck to some duty assignment that started that morning, which would explain the speed.

Is this grounds to terminate a contract — yes, I think so. So then how quickly can MassDOT rebid the contract, and what in the interim?

And this presumes that everything was on the up & up — that they won the contract fairly, didn’t buy off any politicians, etc — PAGING HOWIE CARR, PAGING HOWIE CARR……

And remember that there are THREE injury counts, in addition to the dead girl, there are her seriously injured mother and friend. Not to mention what the vehicle’s spy chip is going to say about how fast it was going when airbags deployed — likely quite fast. Depending on make and year, that chip’s gonna say a lot more (remember Tim Murphy and 107 MPH?) and while it won’t document the no passing zone, it will have him at 90 MPH if he really did that.

    So what’s Charlie gonna do????

DOT does not mandate drug tests, CDL holders are required to be randomly tested. Operation of a company pickup truck does not require a CDL, hence no worries about failing a piss test.

phil, any person in Massachusetts who drives a company vehicle is required to pass a dot drug test in order to receive their dot card along with an eye exam and blood pressure check. especially if the company is registered with dot. After the initial dot drug test it’s on the employer to keep up with drug screening! You have no idea what you’re even saying so stfu and sit down. It’s not just cdl drivers who are required to have a dot card you fukin dolt!

When’s the last time you got a DOT medical card Mr Big Mouth? I got mine renewed about 2 weeks ago. Have had a CDL and a medical card for over 20 years. Never once have I been piss tested at a DOT medical card renewal, but it was probably a repeated oversight by the clinic or something since you clearly know everything. Shithead

Furthermore, I am required to be enrolled in a random drug testing program as a holder of a class A CDL. I also hold a USCG 50 ton Captains License and the required TWIC card. None of these have anything at all to do with my DOT medical card. There are many many operators of DOT vehicles on the road, even in the company that I work for, who do not have CDLs and do not EVER get random tested.

The driver of that truck has a DOT medical card. See the DOT lettering on the door? He is not required to be drug tested because he has a DOT card. The original question up above was how did he pass a DOT drug screen. The answer I provided above was that he is not required to be drug tested just because he has a DOT medical card. Tell me please where my original response, which you replied to with insults and name calling, was wrong?

      • CDL PHD
        January 2, 2020 at 9:10 pm

I fucking love listening to truck drivers talk shop.

-If the vehicle is registered commercial and has a gross vehicle weight over 10000 lbs (listed on the registration) you need a DOT physical.sometimes called a “medical card” (It consists of a basic physical, eye exam, blood pressure and a diabetes test “that’s why they make you piss in the cup”lol)

-if the vehicle is over 26000 then you need a CDL
The government requires companies to randomly drug test their CDL drivers. This company probably had very few CDL trucks if any. How big of a truck do you need to put out cones and arrow boards?

-The DOT card holders(10000 to 26000) are not subject to the random drug test law. so basically anyone bombing around in a pickup truck, small dump truck or crash truck would not be required to piss

-sometimes companies do their own driving background tests and preemployment drug tests so they can get cheaper insurance rates but it sounds like the company culture at Hi-Way is “booze broads and blow”. The owners probably knew that a strict policy would decimate the workforce

I remember one of the phycitic, crack head employees who’s nick name was Spike, throwing a temper tantrum and throwing a shovel that that ricocheted off the truck and hit a new employee in the head… knocked the guy out, ambulance came… detail cop ( Statie) saw it all go down and so did an in duty Boston cop who happened to be driving by. Boston cop ran Spike for warrants, surprise he had a few, Statie huddled with Boston cop and let Spike walk with a promise to “ clear your warrants” Statie didn’t want to jeopardize his sweet, regular OT spot! Total bullshit. Also heard through the grapevine that new guy who got knocked out was given $30k cash by owner to NOT file a report or seek workers compensation or anything like that.

So I grew up on the South Shore and I worked very briefly for this company one summer many years ago ( in the 90s) Now I grew up in the projects in Quincy I’ve witnessed and been involved in some pretty crazy shit in my teens and adolescent years.. BUT even with my street smarts and exposure to cousins who were Southie street brawlers and low level coke dealers I remember being in a total state of shock when I saw what went on at this company!!!! Employees driving these monster rigs all over New England while smoking crack and drinking beers, constantly, every day!!! Literally ALL OF THEM!!! Yes you read that right… SMOKING CRACK!!! I promptly quit and told the owner ( he was very old then I’m sure he’s retired or deceased now) what was happening and he blew it off with a “ boys will be boys” attitude. I remember him saying “ working nights is tough the shit helps the guys stay alert” this story brought it ALL BACK!!! Surprised it hadn’t happened sooner! This company needs to be shut down! And yes TB feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to help with an inquest

The company would have a better chance of escaping liability (strict liability or negligence) if the employee had not been driving one of its vehicles when he was driving drunk and killed the 13 year old girl.

Why was he driving a company vehicle? Was he on duty when he was driving drunk? Did management or other employees see he was drunk or drinking when he was operating the company vehicle? Did the company know about his driving record?

Unfathomable tragedy for the young girl and her family.
