Here’s another horror story from Laughlin Kennel:

A Boston couple is heartbroken and regretful after purchasing an 8-week-old Havanese from a kennel with a history of complaints. Jaime Gaudet and her boyfriend, Mark Paolucci, brought “Coco” home from Laughlin Kennel of Oxford on January 22nd. Only five days later, Coco was seriously ill with the parvovirus.

“You love them [a new puppy] instantly and they love you,” Gaudet told WBZ-TV through tears. “We just want her to come home. We just want her to get well.”

She paid more than $1,500 for Coco, who was brought to the kennel from Missouri on January 20th. Gaudet’s contract with Laughlin Kennel included a 14 day health guarantee but a caveat to that guarantee requires the puppy be returned to the kennel.

The first time pet owners don’t want to return the dog, because they love Coco and fear she wouldn’t survive the hour long ride back to Oxford from the Waltham emergency veterinary facility, Blue Pearl, where she is currently on a feeding tube and hooked up to IVs for intensive 24-hour treatment.

“To request us to present the dog to them is unreasonable and impossible because we want her to live,” said Gaudet. “We honestly don’t think if we brought her there that they would have the capability of caring for her nor would they maybe have the interest because the expense is so great.”

Coco’s vet bills are currently at $6,000. Laughlin Kennel tells WBZ-TV they do not euthanize puppies for financial reasons, that they have the capability to treat a sick dog, and are especially successful at treating respiratory infections. A first call to Laughlin Kennel by WBZ-TV was met with a refusal to comment and a disconnected phone line. Later, an office manager called to inquire about where to send a written statement from owner Robert Fink.

“We very much regret that this, or any, puppy became ill. We do take efforts to avoid this unfortunate situation,” Fink said in the statement, which also pointed to the appearance of a healthy puppy when Gaudet took her home and the unwillingness to bring the dog back to the kennel. Fink went on to say Coco passed a check with their own veterinarian the day she was sold and had the USDA required health certificate.

Fink says because of the significant veterinary bills for Coco, currently at $6,000, Laughlin Kennel issued a full refund. Gaudet disputes that the refund has been issued.

Complaints about the sale of sick puppies by Laughlin Kennel are nothing new for the business, which set up a Facebook page late last year to refute what they say are false allegations. A recent WBZ-TV I-Team investigation exposed deplorable conditions through undercover video of the facility.

“We feel super guilty at this moment because we just didn’t know. Had we known, we wouldn’t have wanted to invest with them,” said Gaudet. “We don’t want to support their business. It’s not about the money. It’s about the principle of it. If you’re going to do this to animals, we don’t want you to have our money.”

Coco’s prognosis is still about 50/50 due to her prolonged case. Monday night will mark her sixth night in the hospital, during which Gaudet can only watch through a glass window, rather than hold and comfort the dog she loves. A gofundme.com page has been setup to offset Coco’s expensive vet bills and has received donations from others claiming to have purchased sick dogs.

Seriously, how the hell is this place still open? This is what they do. They ship in dogs from shady breeders in Missouri. They come here in cages and shit all over each other on the long drive in.

Laughlin Kennel

Then they house them in a warehouse in the backyard where they keep the neighbors up all night while the owners sleep in another home in Webster.

Then they sell the dogs to customers, but won’t let you see where the dogs are being warehoused. Then when the dogs get really sick and require thousands of dollars worth of medical care, the Fink family refuses to issue a refund unless you bring the dog to them, where more than likely it will be euthanized. Oh yea, and in this case like in many others, the dog would likely die on the car ride over.

What a fucking scam this is. Seriously, how is the town of Oxford allowing this? How is Michael Cahill and the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture allowing this? Someone should go all 101 Dalmatians on their ass one night. Free the dogs!!

Anyway, people gotta stop buying from there. As much as I blame the Finks for being the antichrist, part of the blame lies solely on the shoulders of those who choose to give them business. Hey everyone, there’s this cool thing called “Google.” It’s a magical portal that can tell you anything you would ever wanna know about anything. And when you Google “Laughlin Kennel reviews” this is what you get:

So yea, don’t buy form puppy mills and puppy mills won’t stay in business. I’m just glad the mainstream media is starting to get wind of this story. The Fink family is going down.

Anyone who buys a dog in this day and age is as reprehensible as the people who provide the dogs for sale and take the money. Coco’s owners are every responsible breeder’s worst nightmare. Because they are too stupid to do some research and impulse buy from charlatans like Laughlin.

I am glad TB puts part of the blame on the buyers…yes, in some situations people are duped, but seriously, this is how a lot of these mills (and PET SHOPS, btw) make sales…

People buy puppies from these mass breeders (Hello? Responsible breeders don’t have puppies any given day of the year and they sure aren’t shipping them in from elsewhere to resell!), often turning a blind eye to the fact that the place is run like a Wal-Mart, but with cuter “merchandise.”

Then, when the dog gets sick (or the dog turns out to have behavioral issues from being raised like livestock), buyers don’t return the dogs because of the same reason they got it in the first place – using their hearts instead of their heads.

Puppy mills know this. Pet shops know this. They play on the mushy, oh-it’s-so-cute, types who don’t stop to ask questions (where are the parents/can I see them, how many dogs do you have, how many litters do you have a year, who is your vet, can I get references…) because those folks aren’t going to give up the puppy for a refund.

Oh, and a reputable breeder (or animal shelter) is going to ask about the BUYER’S qualifications, other than how you’ll be paying.

The real problem to me is why isn’t anyone providing oversight except the media? It appears to me that the Oxford leadership is impotent. The state department of agriculture has done what? Has a health inspector visited this place unannounced with great frequency? Has the MSPCA seen this shithole?

Unannounced weekly inspections over the next 6 months should provide an accurate assessment of this kennel and the treatment and condition of the animals. Anything less is bs.

You guys are relentless. But don’t worry, we are still making a bunch of sales regardless of your attacks. When the inspectors come to see us, we just remove the dogs so they cannot be seen. That way the inspectors pass us. Another way to get past you idiots is to just get a restraining order against the people. That’s what I did to Webster’s Michelle Ann Lafleche. That stupid woman tried to come shit me down one time. So I just said she was harassing me and now she can’t say shit. If she does Webster’s town administrator will just fire her. Even the nice clerk lady Jennifer can’t say anything.

Look, Like I told you people, we have families too. As you can see on our website Laughlin Kennels rakes it in, OVER 20 YEARS (since 1992)OVER 29,223 PUPPIES HAVE GONE INTO PET HOMES. THAT DOESN’T EVEN INCLUDE ALL THE LITTLE BASTARDS I SOLD IN WEBSTER! Think about that, at 1k a pop, that only puts our team at 29 million give or take. How could WE POSSIBLY HAVE A DECENT LIVING CONDITION FOR THESE ANIMALS!?

So shove your Michael Cahill comments and your Oxford town rules. We run this bitch. We paid them off idiots. Anyhow, all you whiners act like we’re sex trafficking kids or something. Who gives a shit about these bitches. Breed em, sell em, whatever. So long as I get mine.

I was feeling bad for the buyer until I saw that they set up a gofundme page.
If they are smart enough to do that why were they not smart enough to find out about this kennel. It has been everywhere

I adopted a dog from the south…a rescue. He arrived from a foster home in Tennessee, on a transport, with air conditioning, food, water, and blankets. The transport walks them on several stops to the north. He was fully vetted, neutered, had all his shots, and was in perfect health. I had him vet checked (with a vet certificate I was given with his adoption fee) perfect pup. I took a chance and got a dog I had only seen photos of, however I spoke with the foster many times, and she was honest, and truly happy he found a loving home. He was given up because the family had small children and he was too little to mix with the children, however he is great with kids, other dogs, and a great pet. The cost was a lot less than buying a pup from anywhere else, and he is a wonderful dog. He needed a home, I needed a dog. Consider rescue when thinking of a dog, there are all breeds available to rescue and all you need is a little patience at first till they get used to a new home. Took about ten minutes for my guy to settle in and begin a happy life. Beware of mills, stores, and dishonest places.

My dog came up in a similar fashion on Greg Mahle’s Rescue Road Trips truck. She had a history of heart worm, had been treated sucessfuly and was a year old…a street dog from Louisinanna. She had been very healthy, and seems to “know” that she was lucky enough to be rescued. She’s a 25 lb mutt, Beagle and probably Jack Russell and whatever. She’s an absolute joy. She cost us $450 but that meant she was fully vetted, completely UTD on vaccinations, spayed, and paid for her trip here. I would never buy from one of these horrible puppy-mill-sustaining places knowing there are so many dogs, of all kinds, including any purebred you could imagine, in shelters all over the country. Adopt, don’t shop.
