So yesterday we reported on the apparent death the famous Leicester Christmas Lights:

Evidently there were an estimated 3,000 people there just last night. The place has been blowing up ever since they started getting coverage from Boston TV stations. Anyway, we wanted to see what it looks like in the daylight so we could figure out what exactly went wrong here, and why this place has to close down. So we went down there today and met up with Scott and Deniese Weikel, the homeowners who have been putting this display on for years now.

Turtleboy Investigates.

So the reason the cops came is because parking was a nightmare. This is Waite Street:

It’s not a road that leads anywhere important, unless you’re trying to make out at Spider Gates or round second base at the Lynde Brook Reservoir. But as you can see there are cones all over the road that the Weikel’s have put up to keep people from parking on their neighbor’s lawns. Meanwhile diagonally across the street form them is this lot:

No dumping. LOL. As you can see there’s plenty of places to park there, and this lot exists because it’s right next to the field where the LHS soccer team plays and the football team used to play:

The problem is that morons don’t park there. Maybe it’s because it’s really dark out and there’s no street lights, or maybe it’s because they’re morons. Both are strong possibilities. And as you can see, they have posted signs everywhere asking people to turn their lights off, so as to not annoy their neighbors:

Everyone who is in the know, knows who called the cops and ruined Christmas. But it would be irresponsible for Turtleboy to say who it was, because quite frankly, people are morons and will likely do dumb things if we put it out there. Back in Turtleboy’s day this would’ve been grounds for an egging, but kids these days are much dumber than they were back in the 90’s and I think some genius would think they deserve much worse than that. They don’t. They’re dooshnozzles and grinches, but they’re not serial rapists.

And honestly, if people weren’t morons, and just parked in the very convenient parking lot, and turned their lights off as the signs posted, then this would never have happened. And just to show you how disrespectful and hopeless society really is, this is all the trash that Denise had picked up when we got there this morning:

12367011_1658450861104857_326942438_n

This is why we can’t have nice things. Because people see a nice, free thing that this family is putting on out of the goodness of their hearts, and they throw trash on it. Savages.

And Scott and Denise really are really good people, who just so happen to ride the turtle on the regular. They don’t charge anything for this, even though they start putting it up after Halloween and run up an insane electric bill, but they do accept donations. All proceeds from those donations go to the Relay for Life or a charity for needy Leicester children. Last night they raised $1,100!!!

Never mind the positive impact they’ve had on the local economy. When people come in from all over the state they get coffee at the Dunkin Donuts or go out to eat at Barber’s Crossing and Eller’s. We know this because Denise’s trash bag was full of stuff from those places.

But now it’s gone, because some crotchety old hag couldn’t called the cops instead of just talking to her neighbors, and the general public acted like savages. They did talk about bringing it back, but they would have to figure out how to avoid this happening in the future. They could hire a detail cop with the money they get from donations, but that would cut into the money they donate. Either way, Turtleboy Jr. was none too pleased that the place looks like Santa’s Army just lost the battle of Antietam:

Depressing. Here’s hoping that they can figure this out and keep this great tradition alive. In the meantime the Worcester Airport is gonna have to come up with a new way to guide planes into the the landing strip.

P.S. If you’ve never been here is a gnarly video this guy put together of his tour there.

Whoever called the cops is an ASSHOLE!

The goat-herding douchbags who dumped their trash on the property of other’s should be dealt with in ways I will not discuss here. But trust that not one of those ways involves a psychologist or douchbag lawyer from the ACLU!!

The Weikel’s deserve respect and support.

I thank them for sharing their excitement and devotion of the Christmas Spirit!

This bums me out. Even more so now that I know they donate to charity. Yes-unusually high traffic on your usually quiet road probably sucks, but come on! It’s incredible that not only do they raise money, clean up the crap that other other assholes leave, work hard to keep their neighbors area free from chaos….but clearly they have a sentimental reason behind spreading their good Xmas cheer. What the fuck is happening to people? Of all things to raise hell about–you pick this?? I don’t cry and call 911 when they detour traffic down my usually quite road and its not like this is a year long event. Sad. We take our kids by to see this every year! They got great coverage which probably caused the huge increase in traffic but that just means—more money for great causes. Sad day for them, the charity and those that travel just to take a peek at their creativity.

Turtle boy. First off I want to say I am a big fan of what you do. Keep up the good work. Second of all at the top of the hill from this awesome display is a church that is no longer in use. If someone were to talk to them they could probably use this giant parking lot at the church. Granted they would have to pay some local officers for traffic duty but this display would so be a waste if they were to shut it down.

You are incorrect. St. Josephs is still an actuve church.
