Let’s Find A Way To Support This Week’s Hero Of The Week – Worcester Fire Lt. Jason Menard, Who Died Saving The Lives Of Others

I woke up this morning planning on talking about a couple stories we have in the works on the YouTube morning show. But I saw the news that a lot of people did about Worcester Fire Lt. Jason Menard dying last night while trying to save the life of a baby in a triple decker on Stockholm Street in Quinsigamond Village. He was just recently promoted too.

Lt. Menard leaves behind a wife and three children, ages 15, 13, and 9. His oldest son is special needs. Yesterday was his last shift before vacation, as he and his family were planning on leaving for Disney World today. They had shirts made and everything.

Worcester is a very small and tight knit community. When a firefighter like this dies it’s inevitable that if you didn’t know him, then you know people who know him. Jason was a Doherty High School graduate. I grew up in that neighborhood, but I went to South because I was a nerd. However, my friends who went to Doherty all speak highly of him and are in shock right now.

We know that firefighters were told that there was a baby on the third floor and that Lt. Menard and other firefighters bravely ran into the fire. It’s been reported that he saved the lives of other firefighters, including pushing one out of a window. Jason Menard is our hero of the week, and I’m at a loss for words right now for once in my life.

I don’t know why this seems to happen in Worcester so often. We’re coming up on the 20 year anniversary of the Worcester 6 dying while trying to save the lives of two homeless people at the Cold and Storage building. We’re less than a year away from Chris Roy dying while fighting a fire in Main South, and less than a decade away from Jon Davies dying in a similar manner. Firefighters die in other cities, but in Worcester it seems to happen more often. I’m sure it’s just terrible luck, I’m just baffled on why our city and its fire department seem to be cursed like this.

Jason’s family will no doubt receive lots of support. The WFD is very good at looking after the families of their lost brothers after they’re gone. Several of the Worcester 6 had children that have gone on to become firefighters. There will be fundraisers, I’m sure Jason had life insurance, and the community will rally to support his wife and children. I’m trying to brainstorm ways in which we can help. I’ll gladly share any links to legitimate fundraisers, but I’d like to help in a different way if possible. I don’t think raising money will be an issue, but we have a large audience and a social responsibility to mobilize that platform to help.

Jason’s sister is a long time turtle rider and a friend of mine. I think with the outpouring of support that is about to come for Jason’s immediate family, maybe we could use our resources to somehow support his sister’s family. I’m sure the last thing she wants to do this week is cook. If anyone has any ideas for a way to support her family please feel free to reach out to me. I’m all ears.

Condolences to all this has affected including his brothers & sisters in the WFD. I don’t think there are any words to express the sadness & the hurt.

As the other normal people have already stated, some of us absolutely want to help wherever the need is greatest. If I can think of something that hasn’t already been thought of I will share the idea. In the meantime I will also be on the lookout for any links I can contribute to.

And to all assholes with their disgusting comments please run along and die now. You are not welcome here.

Thanks for your service! Someone let that lawyer in Northampton know the news; you know, the one that calls cops and municipal employees ‘violence workers’

For those with the cutting remarks about vagrants and babies: firefighters have to make rapid decisions based on the information immediately available. They were told squatters were in the Worcester Cold Storage building. They were told there was a baby on the third floor on Stockholm Street. They are trained to react based on this information. In both cases, that’s what the firefighters did, their jobs. They are trained to protect life and property. To cut their balls off in their time of need is unconscionable.

Sorry don’t believe the baby story. How to deflect any questions about tactics and why a young man had to die needlessly? Tell the idiots it was about a baby…they won’t question anything. In fact they’ll eat that shit up. Fire up the bagpipes.

Why don’t you question why a young man had to die? Why don’t you question the tactics or why this continues to happen? Nope he died saying a baby..or uh his crew…end of story move along.

As much as I cant stand the Greg Hill show now. He is still an awesome person, he has set up to match donations from the Greg Hill fondation.

Yes, there was a baby on the 3rd floor as was noted in several reports of the incident.

This hero was supposed to come home from work this morning and jump on a flight to Disney with his family for a 10 day vacation. His bags were packed and ready to go. Also, there are reports that he has 2 small children at home. In one report, it was stated that one of the children has down syndrome. The report did not clarify if it was his child or the child in which he was trying to save one the 3rd floor of the 4 alarm fire. There is also Fire Fighter who is in critical condition. All of this might have been stated in TB’ write up but I couldn’t bare to read it. It’s a very sad day indeed.

The Worcester Six where in a warehouse to put out a fire not to find or save any vagrants. I don’t believe the baby story. Everything the WFD says is a lie.

The “Worcester Six” weren’t trying to save any homeless people. Stop trying to re-write history.

Fred is correct. The fire that took the Worcester six was started by vagrants. The warehouse was empty!

      • WeRFucked
        November 13, 2019 at 4:07 pm

The WFD was under the impression that there were indeed people still inside the warehouse, or there may have been.

Are you both saying that isn’t true, but that was just an excuse made up so the deaths wouldn’t seem to be for nothing?

        • Fred
          November 13, 2019 at 6:18 pm

I’m saying they weren’t in the building looking for homeless people. They were in the building looking for the source of the fire. After their tragic deaths the narrative changed in order to look more heroic. Better to die saving the homeless then to die saving a worthless warehouse.

Anything this family needs i will gladly do what i can to help. My condolences and prayers go out to all of his family immediate and extended. I work in the Worcester area a few days every week. I could pick up and drop stuff off. I could make crockpot meals and freeze them so all she would have to do for dinner is heat up the dinners. Meatballs and sauce , chili, chicken chili, meatball soup, lasagna. Gift cards always are a big help in tough times as well.. Any home services she needs, I can arrange to have a crew out at her home to get anything done around the property that may need done to leave her and her family extra time to focus on more important things.

Keep being you and even though I dont know you or the hero involved. It’s a god send that there are still people like us and the others. God bless you as well!
