A few months back we showed you one of the most fantastic Facebook rants ever written from a woman who had a really, really bad experience with crab legs at the Super Chinese Buffet in Worcester. It was hilarious. But today you might’ve seen a slightly more disturbing rant from some girl on the Facebook machine named Chau Vu. She used to work at a Vietnamese restaurant called Pho Dakao, that is literally a stone’s throw away from the Super Chinese Buffet. What she alleges about her time there is fantastic theater:

Here’s the transcript if you can’t read that:

My name is Chau Vu. I am writing this letter to inform you about Pho Dakao. Pho Dakao is located at 593 B Park Ave Worcester Ma. I am a previous employer of Hiep and My Pham and worked for them as a server at Pho Dakao for 7 years.

I am very concerned for several reasons. It’s is all about the truth that we because of the job and money never speak out loud to anyone. The paying customers at Dakao are unaware of the way the things are done. I am alarmed by the fact that it has gone on so long.
Dakao is most popular for the soup (Pho) and the specialty drinks. The soup is served with a plate on the side that customers can use put in their soup. The plate has bean sprouts, basil, lime and jalapeños. After the customers have finished and leave the table gets cleared. The employees are told and made to keep whatever food is left over from what the customer used. Most of the time the plate is picked through and trash from the customers is tossed on the plate. It is absolutely unsanitary to reuse food and serve it over and over again to customers that think it’s fresh. Every time I have friends or family members come to eat, I try my best to take the new beansprouts plates, new rice for them. I am scared that they have to eat someone spit. Sometimes you – as a customers dine in at the restaurant, you see my lady boss help us clear tables. That’s not she is helping us. All she does is taking the food left on the tables to the kitchen and reuse them.. She afraid we will through away. Sometimes I saw the basil is dirty, or we are very busy, and have no time to save them, we put all in the trash. my ladyboss will come pick them out, rewash very fast and put back in the basil container. As a result for this bad action, I got complaint by customers before that the fresh bean-sprouts and basil had a toothpick mixed inside, and had dirty sauce arround.

We are forced to save old rice and reuse rice that customers didn’t eat. Sometimes rices is very old and smell from yesterday, they still use it. When I spoke up to the boss about this I was told that the sauces and spices will cover up the foul smell and fool the customers. I know people will get sick from the way things are done, I’m reaching out with hopes that things can be changed.

We serve sink water in a plastic tote that is slimy and disgusting. It is stored underneath the silverware in the waitress area. Several customers seen this when other employees were taking water pitchers to fill the tote from the bar sink. It is very unsafe to serve food and drinks that have gone bad or are full of bacteria, but no one cares.

The specialty shakes are made in the kitchen per order. The blenders are beyond slimy and filthy as are all the utensils that are used to mix the shakes. Nothing is washed and kept sanitary, It’s kept in a metal tin with old stagnate water full of bacteria. The milk and the fruit get left out throughout the day. Besides, Dakao is very famous for boba tea also, but the paying customers dont know the fact that the boba tea cups can be reused too. Customers order boba drink and finish, leave the cups at the tables. When we clear them to the kitchen, they will be wash with cold water, hang to dry and servered to the next customers as new one. Of course those plastic cups can’t be washed through hot water or wash machine.

There is work abuse happening in this restaurant. The kitchen staff are illegal and work 60 plus hours a week. They are paid well under minimum wage. Their lunch is always at 3-4 pm and they are not allowed to have even a soda.. Each can of soda they have to pay $0.50 cents. We, as waitstaffs have to do extra work for them. Whatever they want you to do. First, Togo and answer phone call is my boss’s job. We helped them. Time by time, it becomes our job which if you dont do that, they will cut off your shift because they say you are lazy. I talked to my boss about this once, and i got cut off shift.. he made me sorry him as well as take thats my fault to give me back my normal shift.

Kitchen never wear gloves and food is not kept or cleaned with the regard for someone with allergies. Chefs and people work in the kitchen talked to me a lot. They told me all about how bad they got treated, and how cheap they got paid. I was working there also, so I can understand and trust what they told me. They pay people in the kitchen too cheap and treat them very bad before. And 3 chefs left to work for a better place. Dakao thinks they are illegal then they have to work for Dakao even how bad they got treated and paid. Then Pho Dakao blame on me, saying I am the one who took them away and introduce them to the other restaurants. I try to explain to my boss that its not me, and the reason for them to leave Dakao as I have been told. My boss just did not take their problem that they pay too cheap and treat employees badly. Chefs go to work by bicycles. On the snow days, I always call my husband to drive them home with his truck which my boss has a truck too but never drive them home even how bad the weather is.

The boss asks the employees to do inappropriate jobs that he should hire professionals to do. They are just very cheap. I was asked to climb up and wash the windows while I was pregnant at the 2nd month. When I refused to do so I lost serval shifts and the boss was very angry with me. I felt as though it was a risk for me to climb up and wash the windows, I am server that’s not my job. I am finally speaking up after being fired, because they said I talk back too much. I can’t stand back and watch them fool people. I was asked to do several dishonest things well working there. I watched the boss delete all orders paid in cash by the customers so that he can keep the tax money he charges. Once the night is over the boss goes into the computer and deletes the orders as if they never existed keeping the money.

We as servers are made to pay the boss 3% of all our sales for the night. We pay tax for that 3% and my boss takes it without reporting it to the IRS. That has been a big problem for the servers. We are being asked to pay him, the owner and the boss money for absolutely nothing. When we question it he tells us 1% is for burst-boy which is acceptable. 1% is for bartender which we have no bartender in the morning, and we still have to pay. 1% is for his wife. His wife makes drinks and shakes for us and we have to pay her for her work. Although that is not the case, we usually make our own shakes because she is not there much. She is old and doesn’t speak English well, so we ask her to hire a person for this to look more professional while the restaurant is getting busier, but she said no money.

The ice maker is slimy and has mildew. The ice creams are left uncovered along with all the other food we serve. We marry old sauces with new sauces everday. The liquor at the bar has fruit flies in it due to not being covered. Yet we have no choice to serve it we are told to pick the flies and bugs out. I am glad I no longer work at Pho Dakao and have to be put through this.

I am convinced that if something is not done, things will get more out of control. I have never respected the way the boss wants to take money anyway he can without giving quality back to the customers and treating his employees fairly.

My boss is a very traditional Vietnamse boss. Everything he says is right. He is always right, and you can’t talk back or either explain. All you can do is do whatever he says, take whatever he says, even he calls me a bitch, he swears at you, still, you can’t talk back or you will get fired or cut off shift like me.

I just want to inform you as a paying customer to know what you pay for. You don’t know when you get served with other eople used food which Pho Dakao always say its fresh.

_DSC0451-x-zc-ns

Alright, so obviusly this girl is lying through her teeth. First of all, Pho Dakao has pretty good Yelp reviews. As a matter of fact this same girl copy and pasted this same exact story onto their page earlier today. Besides that the reviews are almost all positive. The negative comments generally revolve around someone who had a waitress with some attitude, which probably explains why Chau Vu is no longer working there.

Other than that the only complaints I see by glancing over it are the fat bastards who thought the portions were too small and thought it was too expensive. Newsflash – just because it’s an Asian restaurant doesn’t mean you get to stuff yourself with crab raccoon until you explode.

Secondly, if this girl is some sort of disident gone rogue, why is she coming out with this information now? She worked there seven years right? And she’s just sharing this with us now?

Thirdly, we’re talking about some basil, rice and beansprouts here. These have to be some of the least expensive operating costs the restaurant has. Anyone who is running a restaurant isn’t gonna concern themselves with basil, rice, and beansprouts. What’s that gonna save them in the end? They probably come in a big frozen bag. They cost the restaurant half a cent per unit. You’re telling me of all the corners they could’ve cut running their business, they chose to do so by reusing discarded rice and beansprouts? YYYYEEEEAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Fourthly, she says that customers saw all these things nasty things happening, such as sauce covered toothpicks from the trash ending up in their meals. My question is, where’s the Yelp review? Only a moron thinks someone’s gonna find something nasty like that in their food and not scream to high hell about it.

Fifthly, I refuse to believe anyone who writes sentences like this – “he made me sorry him as well as take thats my fault to give me back my normal shift.” Ummmm…………….yea.

The part where she gives away that she’s completely full of shit is when she says that they charged the illegal immigrant workers 50 cents for a coke. I’ve been there before. That’s code for a disgruntled worker who doesn’t like the fact that they’re working for a cheap boss.

TheRightWayToNameYourVietnameseRestaurant-68460

Newsflash – you work at Pho Dakao. You don’t get free drinks. It’s like the people whining about raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. You’re not supposed to make a career out of working in these shitty jobs. The purpose of jobs like this are for it to be a miserable experience so you’re forced to get your shit together and get a real job.

Then she goes on to say that, We, as waitstaffs have to do extra work for them. Whatever they want you to do. Oh snap!!! You’re telling me that your boss is an asshole that makes you do work that isn’t in your job description? Better talk to your Pho Dakao local union rep!!! Newsflash – this is how every job that has ever existed in America has always worked. No matter where you work, your boss is guaranteed to be a moron, and you will ALWAYS be smarter than them. Don’t like it? Start your own business. Then you’re the boss. Problem solved.

Then there was this complaint about her boss – “Everything he says is right. He is always right, and you can’t talk back or either explain.” Newsflash – this is why Asian kids outscore everyone else on standardized tests. This is why we drive Japanese cars. Because their culture in many ways is superior to ours. Adults and business owners are right. Kids and employees are wrong. Don’t like it? You’re out of the family.

A lot of people are inclined to believe this because it’s an Asian restaurant. Sign #1 that you’re in a shady business – the 11 year old girl behind the counter doing her homework is the only person in the joint who speaks english. But that’s because the Tin Tin Buffet’s of the world have given all Asian restaurants a bad name.

I once went into that place and saw an 8 year old cutting up breen beans with industrial scissors on the table next to me as I stuffed my face with General Tsao’s chicken. I knew damn well the risk I was taking by eating that food, but quite frankly I was 19 year old and high so I didn’t care. Anyone who eats at an all you can eat Chinese restaurant and isn’t high has bigger problems than some potential salmonela poisoning.

2d9f0f1fcf548fb7a82841dc46c4d7cf

You know what the real lesson that’s learned here is? If you write something on the Internet it’s automatically true. I literally have not seen a single person comment on the hundreds of times this status has been shared, who has suggested that perhaps this might be the word of a disgruntled former employee with an axe to grind. I’m not saying that nothing she’s saying has any merit, but I am saying that it’s pretty crazy that we’re living in a world where everything written on the Internet goes unquestioned. #BuffaloBruises

To prove my point that people will believe anything they say on the Internet, let’s check out what geniuses who have yet to be bannd from the “Your probaby from Worcester if” gestapo Facebook page are saying…

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 9.20.50 PM

Yes, the BOH does do regular inspections there Kim. Which is why you can tell that none of this shit is true.

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 9.22.13 PM

Yes, they should report this to the DPH. That’s what someone would do if this was real. But it’s not. Which is why she posted a nonsensical Facebook rant that looks like it was written by Amanda Bynes after a relapse.

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 9.23.30 PM

Yes, you’ve never been there before. But it certainly didn’t stop you from taking this illiterate distruntled fired employee’s word for it. Well done.

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 9.25.10 PM

Looks like Pho Dakao’s about to lose a lot of business they never had in the first place. Sounds a lot like the hippie Turtleboy boycott. How’s that going by the way?

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 9.26.44 PM

So let me get this straight Susan. You live in Florida and heard a second hand story from your friends who work in Florida Chinese restaurants, that they reuse discarded food, just like this girl alleges at Pho Dakao. And since China and Vietnam are the same exact country, and all Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants are operated in the same exact manner, you have reached the conclusion that this disgruntled woman’s account is 100% factual. This sure restores my faith in the American jury system.

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 9.31.53 PM

Yea, this one time I went to eat at Pho Dakao and I took a mean dump afterwards. Therefore this ex-employee’s account of the restaurant’s sanitary conditions are verified. And this girl is DEFINITELY brave too. Which explains why she let the general public continue to eat discarded trash for seven years before finally posting about it on Facebook. She’ll probably end up getting taken out by the CIA any day now. Very, very brave of her.

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 9.35.04 PM

Yea, go there and spit in the owner’s face. That sounds like a reasonable thing to do after reading something on Facebook one time. I suppose it’s a lot easier to just believe everything you see from strangers on social media. Especially strangers who say stuff like this:

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 10.06.06 PM

Oh I see. So Chau Vu didn’t actually write that beautiful piece of literary genius on Facebook, her attorney did. And clearly since she’s telling the truth about an attorney writing that post, you must take everything that she says at face value.

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 10.14.26 PM

She’s still working with reporters for the post coming on magazine. I smell an In City Times headline article coming shortly.

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 10.17.43 PM

Yes, this seems like a stable, normal individual who should be taken at their word. Definitely.

The bottom line is that it’s kind of scary that so many local nudniks believed Chau Vu and were willing to ruin the reptuation of a local business that most people seem to agree serves quality Vietnamese cuisine at a reasonable price. Murica.

Of course the yelp reviews are going to be excellent and good. That’s how they fool you. She worked there for 7 years, why would she post it while she is still an emplyee? That would be highly stupid of her. Because you don’t go out and buy your own veggies and bean sprouts you think it cost a few cents? You must be crazy. Fresh herbs cost around $8/lb and you gotta buy a whole box for the restaurant. Asians are cheap, and if you knew that then the article Chau Vu wrote could be legit. Also, your article fails to include that another ex employee who worked at Pho Dakao has backed her up with the accusations. You don’t see what’s behind closed doors, so how do you what’s actually going on? And it really is not that hard to fool the health department when you’ve been open for so long. I’m sorry she bashed on your favorite restaurant. But to be honest, their food suck and it doesn’t taste like authentic Vietnamese food at all.

I for one never stated that I believed it. Only stated my opinion. But you certainly had no problem airing your unproven moronic beliefs. I’m more inclined to believe the majority of this girls story than a knee jerk reaction from TB. I’ve worked for Vietnamese people – they’re not cut from the same cloth as Caucasians, to put it mildly. I wouldn’t be AT ALL surprised if half of the things she claimed actually go on there. Reusing food? I believe it! Cheap bastards. Cutting corners at every opportunity. DEFINITELY do not have the same concerns about germ theory either, FOR REAL. And people who say “I’ve eaten there, it’s so fresh!” Ridiculous. I don’t believe for one second that the average person can taste “fresh” food or detect if something is off. Nope, I believe this girl.

victims of abuse don’t report their abusers right away, just a thought. I believe this girl is telling the truth. majorty of vietnamese people are greedy, and cheap. Especially traditional vietnamese. Americanized vietnamese are less of a barbarian, unless their parents instill those barbarian ways. It worst in vietnam when i went to restaurant there, i was shock when they don’t even wash the bowl and cup of a previous customer, they just dump the remaining food and serve you. It seemed to be okay with the locals and i didn’t want to be disrepectful so i just swallow my pride and gulp down the food. I had horrible experience in vietnam. mind you i was born there.

I had lunch there today and it was EXCELLENT!

Fresh and delicious. The only change? Better service. I saw the waitress’ photo above and she was my only complaint about the place. The few times that we were unlucky enough to to get her as our server were our only subpar experiences, and the food was fine. The problem was her service.
I heard her YELL across the dining room about a patron walking in that “HE NO TIP”. I know the guy. That can’t be true. I’ve seen him be a generous tipper many times. She is an ass. She drove him away. He was understandably mortified.

Dude, someone said he was going to go to a restaurant and spit in the owner’s face because of a rant from a former disgruntled employee. Now, I’m assuming that it was hyperbole, because nobody is that stupid, but the fact that someone felt the need to put it out in a public space does sorta lean towards at least that person being a bit of a moron.

        May 19, 2015 at 9:46 am

I’m sure there’s some truth to the girl’s post but I admit she is probably embellishing a bit. I certainly wouldn’t refer to those who are concerned about the quality of the food there as morons. I’d say there’s good cause for their concern. However I wouldn’t boycott the place outright if I enjoyed the food there. I would hope that a proper investigation is conducted and if violations are found, the owners take action to correct them.

Having said that, I prefer Thai anyway.

    1. You’re clearly butthurt about these accusations due to what I assume to be a personal relationship with the owners of this place if it got you so upset you had to write a blog about it.

    2. You sound incredibly immature.

I mean by boycotting this restaurant, you’re ruining people’s jobs and potentially their lives. If anything the owners should address this situation by being the better man. The owners should show that they have dont everything right. I feel really bad whether this was the truth or not.

I don’t believe any anything than any one on Facebook or even in this blog say anyway. I just read this stuff for fun (because ultimately, it seems that anything giving news that’s biased and without empirical methods of providing evidence for their news stories is really just entertainment. Anyone who starts fully believing any of these posts (including Chau Vu’s rants) is showing their own simplicity to jump on any frenzied bandwagon. I just had to slap my friend here on the side of the head as he started to reach for the pitchfork and vow to boycott Pho Dakao and tell him to take it with a grain of salt. Hey Vu: Show works cited, statistical evidence to back up your complaint and for crying out loud, at least a few more credible witnesses besides the disgruntled ex employee who is biased when she writes the article and I’ll then give it a bigger nod. Half the stuff she was complaining about was just her unable to get out of her comfort zone while at work. I’ve got several friends who own successful restaurants in the city and I hear it time and time again about their employees: they think they’re entitled to work there as if hours, pay rate and odd jobs have to revolve around them. Start your own business then! Oh wait, that would require work ethic..

So, your main complaint is that people believe whatever they read on the internet. Okay, cool. But then your first defense is “Pho Dakao must be good because the yelp reviews are good.” Consistent much?

Also, you should probably start using a spell-checker, especially if you’re going to drop low enough to make fun of anyone else’s spelling and grammar. Just a friendly tip.

The bean sprouts get served alongside almost every meal and they cannot be purchased frozen, not that thats an excuse to reuse strangers food. If you think this sounds gross you should see the basement of Da Lat on Park Ave. Horrible. But Ive eaten at both places. Pho dakaos pho smells like wet dog

“…people will believe anything they say on the Internet”

Yeah just like the idiots who will believe this article that was based off of the same Facebook post/comments he is saying aren’t true. Real class act. The hypocrisy of this is great.

“I suppose it’s a lot easier to just believe everything you see from strangers on social media.”

Oh, you mean like anonymous blog authors? What makes you any more credible in regard to the situation that this article talks about? It’s pretty clear that you only pander to the bigoted sentiments of a particular demographic.

I’m betting TB published this as a precursor to hitting up the folks at Pho Dakao with an advertising pitch. Hopefully they’ll have the wisdom to tell him to go pound sand. Otherwise, I won’t need the Yelp reviews to know to steer clear, because it’ll obviously be a dump, simply by association.

Figuring the anonymous pen name is as old as written criticism, there’s a long, long line of folks who came before the Turtle.

Hmm… ate at a Vietnamese restaurant and had to take a massive growler after? Yeah, that sounds remarkably like what happens after you eat Vietnamese food.

I have an aunt who’s Vietnamese, and she taught my mother how to make some things. I always thought the food just had some kick. But, CLEARLY my mother has been saving and reusing that stuff once a year for the last forty years. That’s how it works right?
