Hey fellow Turtle Riders, you know how our favorite blog has turned into quite the family feminist affair? Well, tally another one up for family friendliness. Turtleboy has been kind enough to let me write up an article about an event coming up next Saturday the 5th of November called Extra Life.

Extra Life is a charity event that benefits the Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals, one of which is Boston Children’s Hospital. Extra Life is a 24 hour video game marathon where players get sponsored by other locals, and all of the money that they raise will be donated to the local CMN Hospital of their choice. Basically, Turtle Riders, I’m here to ask you for money.

Yep, I’m asking for money. But it’s money that will go to a great cause. Here’s a little background on Children’s Miracle Network and Boston Children’s Hospital, and why they need our help to keep the lights on and the doors open.

Children’s Miracle Network was founded in 1983 to provide healthcare to children. The care they provide is often times lifesaving, and sometimes unfortunately they need to provide end of life care for terminally ill and fatally injured children. The reason that they need money? That’s because they provide this care for absolutely no cost to the parents or guardians of the children they treat. We all know how stupid expensive healthcare is these days, and there are a lot of people just can’t afford the level of care their child needs.

If you’re anything like Turtleboy, my wife, and I then you don’t think any child should have to go without healthcare regardless of who their parents are, what they’ve done, how much money they make, or where they’re from. We spend a lot of time on TBS reading articles about some pretty lousy people that have done some pretty stupid things, sometimes at the expense of their own kids’ health and safety. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals are not there just for the children whose parents aren’t batshit crazy, they’re there for all kids from all around the world without any question of circumstance.

If you know anything about Boston Children’s Hospital then you know that people come from quite literally everywhere in the world to get the quality of care that they provide. The people at CMN and BCH fly these people in, put them up in a temporary home, and treat their patient all for free.

So how do CMN and BCH do all this? Donations. Lots and lots of donations from people like us who don’t want to see any children suffer because healthcare is too expensive.

Here’s what we’re doing about it. My wife and I are going to play video games for 24 hours straight, from midnight to midnight. Yeah, I know, it sounds stupid. But have you ever stared at a screen for 24 hours straight? No? Me either, but I’m sure it’s not as much fun as it sounds. I know my eyes are going to hurt like a sonofabitch come Sunday morning. So I’m going to give myself a massive headache if you donate money to Boston Children’s Hospital. My wife and I have a goal of $2,500 total that we want to donate, and I know that with the help of even just a few Turtle Riders we can easily do it. All you have to do is click on this link, and donate whatever you want to. We’ll burn our retinas out on behalf of all the kids that need our help. We’ll also be broadcasting live on the Playstation Network and via Youtube so you can cheer us on, call us names, ask us questions, and listen to us plead for our eyes to stop bleeding after a few hours.

I’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to Turtleboy, and all the Turtleboy Sports bloggers for supporting us in helping Children’s Miracle Network and Boston Children’s Hospital.

I’d also like to thank EVERYONE who donates either through our fundraiser, or in general. A little donation makes a big difference in a lot of lives. So thank you!

Your Fellow Turtle Riders, Robb and Shannon George

I’d actually like to get in on this. Does it have to be a particular game or genre of game? Because I could do 24 hours of World of Warcraft.
