Melinda Boone’s Goodbye Letter Couldn’t Possibly Have More Lies

Let’s break down all the lies and fallacies in Melinda Boone’s farewell letter to the teachers of the Worcester Public Schools.

As you know by now, Melinda Boone has left the building. Booneghazi is officially over. She has accepted a position to become the superintendent of schools in Norfolk, VA, so everyone’s a winner. Except for Norfolk. They’re fucked. Everyone’s been pondering as to why. Well the answer is simple – she saw the writing on the wall. There’s an election coming up in November and all it took was getting rid of two pro-Boone morons on the School Committee and she was gonna be canned. Tracy Novick and Hilda Ramirez basically have no shot at getting reelected, and they’re gonna be replaced by Donna Colorio and Nick D’Andrea. On top of that Mike Gaffney is probably gonna be elected mayor, so she knew she had to leave now and save face or leave later with her head bowed in shame.

Obviously she chose the former.

Anyway, she sent an email to all the teachers in the WPS before she left that contains so many fallacies that it had to be broken down piece by piece just to remind everyone what a massive failure her administration was….

1. We doubled the number of students taking AP courses.

AP enrollment increased because the Worcester Public Schools accepted grant money from an outside agency to increase the amount of students who take AP tests. As a result of this hundreds of students with no business being in such an advanced class were placed there anyway. Consequently the passing rates on AP tests from 44% to 34% under her watch. Throwing a bunch of kids in a class and watching them fail isn’t a measurement of success in any capable administrator’s mind.

2. We balanced the budget during extremely challenging times.

You had no choice. You’re supposed to balance the budget. You are not Congress and you cannot legally run a deficit. And how did you balance the budget? You added $50,000 for a communications specialist who stalks Turtleboy readers in the middle of the night on social media, and you cut all middle school sports programs. Nice job balancing the budget.

3. We reimagined what is possible, particularly in our low performing schools.

AKA, we set a bunch of benchmarks for test scores and then we cut the arts, social studies, and all things that would not be on the MCAS test in order to artificially inflate our scores at “low performing schools.”

4. We worked with the city to substantially increase funding for needed school repairs.

A bucket is still the solution for a leaky roof at South High school. Grafton Street School was built in 1869 and at recess kids run around and play on asphalt. Worcester East Middle School looks like a prison from the outside and is the last place on earth anyone wants to send their kids. Vernon Hill Elementary School had a gas leak that the principal did not evacuate the school for.

5. We cultivated highly effective partnerships with the colleges, Worcester Education Collaborative, United Way, and many other community organizations.

The WPS had partnerships with all of those groups before Melinda Boone ever became superintendent.

6. Worcester is home, a community in which I have planted roots.

In this article in the TelegramMelinda Boone said, “If you aren’t from Worcester, you aren’t from Worcester. I could be here for 25 years, and I would still be the outsider.” Yea, sure sounds like “home” to me.

7. I have been called back home to lead the Norfolk Public Schools as its superintendent.

No, the guy before you was canned. This is the same city that you fled from after becoming involved in a major cheating scandal, which was done for the purpose of improving your charts. She is going home, not because she was called, but because she sees the writing on the wall. Oh yea, and the job comes with a $30,000 pay raise. Because for some reason in Virginia they are willing to pay an incompetent, empty pant suit $224,000 per year.

Does she realize she’s talking to adults when she wrote this? Do you honestly think adults wanna hear her stupid analogy about the little engine that could? Is that supposed to impress us? Does she not realize that every single teacher who found out about this today was thrilled about her announcement? Does she not realize that she’s made the job of a teacher a million times worse while running our schools? The fact that she wrote this email and thought it would be well received is a microcosm of her entire failed tenure as superintendent.

What she should’ve done is written the teachers an apology for endangering them and watering down down the quality of education in order to improve her graduation rates and test scores.

Joe Petty wrote his own ridiculous farewell to Dr. Boone today. We’ll have our breakdown on that coming up shortly. Stay with TBS for all things Booneghazi.

Did you know that I got a breaking news text from the T&G telling us about Mel before she even sent that email to WPS employees?? YES, the T&G informed us first!

She probably press released it to the T&G before sending the email.

Never mind the academic achievment gap. Boone can’t even bridge the dental gap. She must floss with nautical rope.

Spanky wrote another column for you today. I’m sure you’re aware of that. Would be nice if turtleboy links were left in comments of Norfolk newspaer. Let them know what they’re in for. If this was so home for her then why was she looking elsewhere? Will she be getting a 50k spokesperson?

And who do you all have to thank for Boone? Why, that would be Lukes. But I thought she had the TBS seal of approval? Just further proof these jackasses have no clue what they are talking about.

Was not Lukes, alone. Both Monfredo and O’Connell were here number one cheerleaders at the expense of Steve Mills. Get the tapes when Dorothy Hargrove misunderstood a motion that would allow Dr. Mills to be interviewed. She asked for a revote because she made a mistake and Brian O’Connell hushed her and said NO!

According to TBS, the mayor is directly responsible for all the ills of the city. She was mayor at the time. Therefore, it is her fault. Sucks when his limited thought process doesn’t work the way he wanted, doesn’t it?

The question is, would Lukes have passively let all this go down over the last few months?

And we’re still on the singular identity schtick. So 2014.

Suggestion to School Committee: Do not hire anyone associated Eli Broad, even if he is willing to pick up
the new superintendent salary for a few years.

The point on cutting middle school sports programs is interesting. At the WPS Hall of Fame awards this year where an old friend was being inducted she clearly said she has not cut any sports programs.. She drew a lengthy applause. If we only knew.

I’m all a’twitter waiting for Spanky’s column! That man has his head shoved so far up his own can that it comes out in a completely different dimension. I’m gonna wait up all night for the paperboy! Gimmie some no-doze, a razor blade and a straw, stat!

It completely lived up to my expectations.

Long story short – despite all of Dr. Boone’s great successes, the massive racist majority in Worcester would never give her any credit. They despise her for her color.

      So, typical Clive jive.

$224,000 a year salary + benefits for the hack job in Norfolk??? Surely this is a misprint; surely this is not humanly possible, even in Clive’s alternate universe???

$224k a year is the epitome of white privilege!.. Oh wait, she’s a woman of color, you say?!?… I meant institutional racism!!! Yeah that’s it! Institutional racism, final answer!

With Boone gone, Petty and Novick shown the door, and Gaffney cleaning up the streets, I think Turtleboy will be happy to return to talking about sports.
